BACKGROUND

School for Life Chiang Mai (SfL) was founded and established by Prof. Dr. Juergen Zimmer and Thaneen "Joy" Worrawittayakun in 2003. The school is located in the mountains of Doi Saket, a serene environment in the middle of secondary growth djungle, about 30 kilometres north of Chiang Mai in northern Thailand. SfL provides a home and education to children in difficult circumstances. Currently 140 such children have found a new home here and many more from around Thailand would like to come and join. In order to secure the wellbeing of the children we depend on the generous support of companies and individuals. We seek partners that not only help us cover current monthly expenses but also join us in securing recurring expenses over a longer period of time. Only if we can achieve stable and ongoing support from sponsors we will be able to open our doors for more children. Currently there are many other children that would like to join our school, not only to receive an education but to find a home as well. The envisaged development of the School for Life model, including kindergarten, primary school and junior high school may need up to 5 years. Another 5 years will be needed for the development of a senior high school and a higher education study program “social entrepreneurship” (B.A. to be prepared at the Ubon Ratchathanee University in Thailand. Within this period of time, i.e. within the next ten years, the Schools for Life are supposed to become more and more self-sustainable through income generation by their entrepeneurial units and through the marketing of a School for Life franchising system.

You made this Christmas unforgettable!again

We are still smiling after our Christmas celebration, and it’s all thanks to you! Your donations and sponsorships provided more than just gifts; they provided a day of joy, laughter, and a sense of belonging for the children at our school.

Seeing the excitement on their faces as they opened their gifts and participated in the festivities was a reminder of the power of community. Your decision to give back has touched many lives and created memories that will last a long time.

We are truly blessed to have your support. May your holiday season be as bright as the one you created for our children.

With deep gratitude,

The Spanish artist Emilio Fornieles has made his name as an influential artist who has done many different art projects.

One of his latest works is a painting that was created during a workshop with the 130 students in the School for Life as a memory of its founder and initiator, Prof. Jürgen Zimmer.
The painting "Chang on the Elbe" shows a white elephant on the Elbe (a river in East Germany) with Albrechtsburg Castle in the background. This castle is a famous sight in Meissen, where the artist lives.
Besides the painting, Emilio Fornieles's wife created a photo reportage, which reflects the sometimes very frightening living conditions of children in Thailand. This photo reportage was especially moving for Zofie Angeliv because it conveyed a feeling that the children felt seen and appreciated.
Generally speaking, this project was a valuable lesson for the students in many ways. On the one hand, they learned how a painting is created, and on the other, they learned what the life of an artist can be like and that it is possible to make a living from it. Their active participation in the creation of the painting also taught them its value.
Moreover, the city of Meissen gave the artist couple 140 small cards with the words "Queen" and "King" on them as a thank you to the students, which were sent to the school. It should help to boost their self-confidence and is a sign that every person is valuable.

The painting was purchased by the American company CMC World Travel, with all the proceeds going to the project - the School for Life.
