💔 𝙍𝙀𝙎𝙏 𝙄𝙉 𝙋𝙀𝘼𝘾𝙀, 𝘾𝘼𝙉𝙔𝙊𝙉 💔
Early this morning, we sadly said goodbye to our beautiful Canyon. 😔
Canyon came to LCA around seven years ago from the Chiang Mai Grand Canyon area, which is how she got her name. She was approximately eight years old and had spent most of her life with us.
At the end of last year, we discovered several lumps on Canyon's hind leg. Three masses were surgically removed on Christmas Day and sadly, the biopsy results confirmed that all three were high-grade mast cell tumors.
Since then, Canyon had been under the care of an oncologist, undergoing oral chemotherapy and attending regular follow-up appointments. For a while she remained stable, but eventually the cancer began to progress. New growths appeared and unfortunately she stopped responding to treatment.
Last week, Canyon suddenly became much weaker. She lost her appetite and developed diarrhea, and on Thursday her oncologist gave us the heartbreaking news that her prognosis was poor and she was nearing the final stage of her illness.
We continued doing everything possible to keep her comfortable. She was receiving fluids, special gastrointestinal food and nine different medications. Despite being weak, over the last few days she was still enjoying short walks and had even started eating again.
Last night, Canyon was walking around and ate her food.
Very early this morning, our staff Aom went to check on her. Canyon was up and walking around. Aom briefly left and when she returned just five minutes later, Canyon had peacefully passed away at around 6:30 am.
Although it happened sooner than we expected, we are grateful that her passing was quick and that she did not endure a prolonged decline.
Aom shared something about Canyon's final night that says so much about the kind of dog she was:
> “The night before Canyon passed away, she stood up and ate her food. Every time I walked over to her and called her name, she was happy to see me and wagged her tail. She never showed me how weak she was. She fought so hard, right until the moment she passed away.”
We fought alongside her too. We tried everything we could to give Canyon more time and, when that was no longer possible, to keep her comfortable and surrounded by people who loved her.
Canyon was such a sweet-natured, gentle girl and after seven years as part of our LCA family, her absence will be deeply felt.
We like to think that her dear friend Gaeng, who passed away around three years ago, was waiting for her on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge. 🌈🤍 After all this time apart, they can finally be together again.
Run free, beautiful Canyon, reunited with your old friend. 🌈🐾
You fought so hard.
Rest in peace, sweet girl. You will be terribly missed and never forgotten. 🤍🕊️
💔 หลับให้สบายนะแคนยอน 💔
เช้าตรู่วันนี้ เราต้องบอกลาแคนยอน สาวน้อยแสนสวยของเราด้วยความเศร้า 😔
แคนยอนมาอยู่กับ LCA เมื่อประมาณ 7 ปีก่อน จากบริเวณแกรนด์แคนยอน เชียงใหม่ ซึ่งเป็นที่มาของชื่อ “แคนยอน” ของเธอ แคนยอนมีอายุประมาณ 8 ปี และใช้ชีวิตส่วนใหญ่อยู่กับพวกเรา
ช่วงปลายปีที่แล้ว เราพบก้อนหลายก้อนบริเวณขาหลังของแคนยอน เธอเข้ารับการผ่าตัดเอาก้อนออก 3 ก้อนในวันคริสต์มาส และน่าเศร้าที่ผลตรวจชิ้นเนื้อยืนยันว่าทั้ง 3 ก้อนเป็นเนื้องอกแมสต์เซลล์ชนิดรุนแรง (high-grade mast cell tumors)
ตั้งแต่นั้นมา แคนยอนอยู่ภายใต้การดูแลของสัตวแพทย์เฉพาะทางด้านมะเร็ง ได้รับยาเคมีบำบัดชนิดรับประทาน และเข้ารับการตรวจติดตามอย่างสม่ำเสมอ ช่วงหนึ่งอาการของเธอคงที่ แต่ในที่สุดมะเร็งก็เริ่มลุกลาม มีก้อนใหม่เกิดขึ้น และน่าเสียดายที่ร่างกายของเธอไม่ตอบสนองต่อการรักษาอีกต่อไป
เมื่อสัปดาห์ที่แล้ว แคนยอนเริ่มอ่อนแรงลงอย่างกะทันหัน เบื่ออาหารและมีอาการท้องเสีย และเมื่อวันพฤหัสบดี สัตวแพทย์ด้านมะเร็งแจ้งข่าวที่ทำให้เราใจสลายว่า พยากรณ์โรคของเธอไม่ดีและโรคกำลังเข้าสู่ระยะสุดท้าย
เรายังคงทำทุกอย่างที่ทำได้เพื่อให้เธอสบายที่สุด แคนยอนได้รับสารน้ำ อาหารสูตรพิเศษสำหรับระบบทางเดินอาหาร และยาถึง 9 ชนิด แม้ร่างกายจะอ่อนแรง แต่ในช่วงสองสามวันที่ผ่านมา เธอยังคงมีความสุขกับการเดินเล่นระยะสั้น ๆ และเริ่มกลับมากินอาหารได้อีกครั้ง
เมื่อคืน แคนยอนยังเดินไปมาและกินอาหารของเธอ
เช้าตรู่วันนี้ อ้อม เจ้าหน้าที่ของเราเข้าไปดูแคนยอน เธอยังลุกขึ้นและเดินไปมาได้ อ้อมออกไปเพียงชั่วครู่ และเมื่อกลับมาในอีกประมาณ 5 นาทีต่อมา แคนยอนได้จากไปอย่างสงบในเวลาประมาณ 6:30 น.
แม้ทุกอย่างจะเกิดขึ้นเร็วกว่าที่เราคาดไว้ แต่เรารู้สึกขอบคุณที่เธอจากไปอย่างรวดเร็วและไม่ต้องทรมานกับอาการที่ทรุดลงเป็นเวลานาน
อ้อมได้เล่าถึงคืนสุดท้ายของแคนยอน ซึ่งบอกถึงตัวตนของเธอได้เป็นอย่างดี:
> “แคนยอนคืนก่อนเขาจากไปเขาลุกยืนกินข้าว และดีใจกระดิกหางรับฉันที่ครั้งที่ฉันเดินไปหาและเรียกชื่อเขา เขาไม่เคยอ่อนแอให้เลยเขาสู้มาก จนกระทั่งเขาจากไป”
พวกเราก็สู้ไปพร้อมกับเธอเช่นกัน เราพยายามทุกวิถีทางเพื่อให้แคนยอนได้มีเวลาอยู่กับเรานานขึ้น และเมื่อสิ่งนั้นไม่สามารถเป็นไปได้อีกต่อไป เราก็ทำทุกอย่างเพื่อให้เธอสบายและอยู่ท่ามกลางผู้คนที่รักเธอ
แคนยอนเป็นสาวน้อยที่นิสัยอ่อนโยนและน่ารักมาก หลังจากเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของครอบครัว LCA มานานถึง 7 ปี การจากไปของเธอจะทิ้งความคิดถึงไว้กับพวกเราอย่างมาก
เราอยากเชื่อว่า “แกง” เพื่อนรักของแคนยอน ซึ่งจากไปเมื่อประมาณ 3 ปีก่อน กำลังรอเธออยู่อีกฝั่งของสะพานสายรุ้ง 🌈🤍 หลังจากต้องจากกันมานาน ในที่สุดทั้งคู่ก็ได้กลับมาอยู่ด้วยกันอีกครั้ง
วิ่งเล่นอย่างอิสระนะแคนยอนคนสวย ได้กลับไปอยู่กับเพื่อนเก่าของเธอแล้ว 🌈🐾
หนูสู้มาอย่างเต็มที่แล้ว
หลับให้สบายนะสาวน้อยที่แสนรัก พวกเราจะคิดถึงหนูมาก และจะไม่มีวันลืมหนูเลย 🤍🕊️
