We are so thankful for the encouragement and support this month from our dear friends, The Worners, who help grow and connect our Voices of Opportunity Australia community.

Their visit came at a meaningful time as we delivered our products to a new partner, Food 4 Thought, who will now be displaying Voices of Opportunity items for sale. Having them alongside us in this moment meant so much.

We also shared a joyful Australia-themed day at the Foundation, where families come together for activities. We learned about Australian animals, enjoyed koala-shaped cookies, and even had the chance to try Vegemite… with some very mixed reviews.

While the air quality in Chiang Mai has been difficult in recent weeks, their presence has brought light, connection, and encouragement to our community.

Thank you for walking alongside our families and for continuing to help create meaningful opportunities together.

We are so thankful to share about a beautiful opportunity that will soon be available to our children.

A high-quality walker, designed for children ages 9–16, has been donated by a family in Australia. This gift was lovingly collected and packed by our dear friends, The Worners Kelly Worner. Together with the Voices of Opportunity Australia supporters they lead, they also generously funded the air freight all the way to Chiang Mai.

Because of this community of generosity, our children will now have access to equipment that is simply not available locally.

We are excited to thoughtfully assess and plan how this walker can best support stepping for our young people — creating more moments upright, and greater participation.

It truly takes a community to create opportunity. We are deeply grateful.

For children classified as Level IV and V on the GMFCS, independent walking is often not expected — but movement is still essential.

A full-support gait trainer is a specialized walking frame that provides trunk, pelvic, and sometimes head support. It holds a child safely upright using a harness and positioning supports, allowing them to bear weight and practice stepping even when they cannot stand or walk on their own.

Supported stepping can:

*Strengthen muscles and protect joint health
*Support digestion and breathing
*Allow children to engage at eye level with others
*Facilitates joy in experiencing independent movement

The image below shows several types of gait trainers designed to support children with complex physical needs — each thoughtfully engineered to provide safety, stability, and the opportunity to experience the world upright.

A little more about cerebral palsy and our children. The mobility and gross motor skills of people with cerebral palsy are categorized into five different levels using a tool called the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS). The children in the Voices community would be classified as Level IV & V. The most significantly physically impacted.

About Our Community

At this time, all of the families who are part of Voices of Opportunity are raising a child with a diagnosis of cerebral palsy.

According to the Cerebral Palsy Society, “Cerebral palsy (CP) is a complicated condition to accurately define. The standard definition is that CP refers to a range of symptoms resulting from a brain injury under the age of two years.”

Every child’s story is unique. Within our own community, two of our children were born typically developing and later contracted Japanese Encephalitis before their second birthdays. As a result of that brain injury, they are now classified as having cerebral palsy.

Behind every diagnosis is a child with personality, joy, preferences, strengths, and tremendous potential — and behind every child is a family navigating both unexpected challenges and deep love.

We are grateful to walk alongside these families — building connection, meaningful work, and community together.
