Chiang Mai Domestic Workers' Group and MAP Foundation Mark International Domestic Workers’ Day with Continued Push for Social Security Rights

CHIANG MAI — 14 June 2026 — The Domestic Worker Group in Chiang Mai, together with the MAP Foundation, continues to push for labor equality, including domestic workers’ rights, by hosting the annual International Domestic Workers’ Day. The event brings together domestic workers in Chiang Mai and provincial authorities to address persistent gaps in state welfare.

At this event, the domestic workers discuss their challenges and long-standing needs—specifically those whose employers do not run a registered business—and call for their formal integration into Thailand's Social Security system under Section 33.

Additionally, the domestic workers take the opportunity to ask questions regarding their rights and discuss their challenges directly with representatives from the Chiang Mai Provincial Labour Protection and Welfare Office and the Chiang Mai Provincial Social Security Office.

The Domestic Worker Group read an official statement and submitted their latest formal demand letter directly to the representatives from both provincial offices.

Empowering Migrant Leaders Through Digital Communication!

On June 5, 2026, the MAP Foundation hosted a “Basic LINE Application” workshop for migrant team leaders in Pong Yang Village, Chiang Mai. Our goal? To foster effective and seamless communication for local migrant leaders.

Through our close work with the community, we noticed that migrant leaders often faced communication gaps with their members. To bridge this gap, we gathered around 30 participants for a hands-on training session.

What they learned:

🗓️ How to schedule appointments using the LINE Calendar.

📍 How to safely share meeting locations within their groups.

💻 How to set up and run online meetings via LINE group video/audio calls.

A big thank you to everyone who participated!

Chiang Mai- 28/5/2026

MAP hosted a specialized Feminist Teaching Methodology Workshop for our dedicated staff. 💜

At MAP, community education is at the heart of what we do. To make our spaces as inclusive and transformative as possible, our staff came together for a Feminist Teaching Methodology Workshop.

The Feminist Teaching Methodology isn't just about what we teach, but how we teach. It’s about breaking down traditional hierarchies, creating safe and democratic spaces, elevating marginalized voices, and valuing everyone's lived experiences as true expertise.

Through this workshop, our staff explored interactive, inclusive, and power-aware facilitation techniques. We can’t wait to bring these empowering learning methods directly into our upcoming community workshops and grassroots training sessions! ✊🗺️

While Thailand's economy relies on migrant workers from its neighbouring countries who many of the physically demanding and low-paid jobs that large numbers of Thai nationals increasingly avoid, millions of migrants live and work under conditions shaped by insecurity, exclusion, and limited legal protection.
