This is my Yard (Yard = family in Thai), Lukkeaw.

She is the founder of FolkCharm, a sustainable fashion brand rooted in Loei, in the Northeast of Thailand.

But if you ask her, she will tell you that she’s not a businesswoman.

She is simply someone who wanted to find a gentle, practical way to solve social problems—from fast fashion’s impact on the environment to the quiet reality of elderly people living with no income in the most overlooked region of our country.

FolkCharm begins from the soil. Organic cotton grown by local hands.

Spun, woven, and sewn by elderly artisans—each step carrying not only craft, but dignity.

Every shirt, every textile, passes through many lives.

Many hands.
Many stories that deserve to be held with care.

She told me she had seen something new in the eyes of the elders she works with–
hope.

The simple pride of earning their own money and being able to spend it on whatever they want without waiting for support from their children.

A small freedom, but a powerful one.

And there’s another layer:
when this community grows organic cotton, it gives them an alternative to gold mining—which means choosing land over extraction, health over harm, future over short-term gain.

So FolkCharm is not only about supporting people or addressing social and environmental issues.

It’s also about giving you clothes that feel good on your skin—comfortable, thoughtfully made, and quietly stylish.

Pieces you can wear with pride because they carry meaning, from farm to fabric to you.

This is why I would like to tell you about Lukkeaw.

Because sometimes the most powerful work is done by someone who never set out to build a business—only to build a better way of living,

One thread at a time.

Yes, The Yard Hostel Bangkok and the Yard Hostel Chiang Mai were started by Som & Som.

But “The Yard family” was built by people. By all of you.

The Yard has never been about just its founders or the staff. It’s about every one of you who has walked through our gate, every conversation shared, every friendship made, and every little moment that turned this place into a home :))

To our yarders, staff, volunteers, neighbors, local friends, and fellow businesses around us, thank you for being part of our family.

You are the reason The Yard feels like a family, not just a hostel.

And we can’t wait to keep growing this family tree, one beautiful connection at a time, all around the world. 🌎

Sometimes we wonder if The Yard is actually a reality show? 📺

One day, 100 different stories.

Someone's playing guitar.

People start dancing.

A few minutes later… a guest is helping our staff fix things?

You never know what's going to happen next at The Yard Chiang Mai.

No auditions needed. Everyone becomes part of the Yard show.

At The Yard, we never hold farewell parties because we truly believe we will meet again.

Kring was our very first staff member back in 2015—many of you might remember her as our favorite 'crazy girl.' After leaving her recent job in Hua Hin, she had three months free, so she came right back to stay with us at The Yard Chiang Mai!

Boont also worked at The Yard Bangkok from 2016 to 2018. After leaving, she moved to Chiang Mai and now works locally, but she still comes by The Yard to work part-time with us.

Both of them said the exact same thing: 'Coming back to work at The Yard is like healing.'

They're happy to be back, reconnecting with old memories and filling their hearts again. And it's the guests who make that possible — the ones who keep coming back are the reason The Yard still feels like home for the people who work here.

It's Never Just Profit.

Every decision we make starts with one question.

Can it be good for the business, good for people, and good for the planet?

There's a giant Yang Na tree at Wat Chedi Luang — for centuries, it was the landmark travelers used to find their way into the heart of Chiang Mai, cooler than GPS.

Locals say it's been there longer than the temple walls around it.

We're just a few minutes' walk from there, tucked in a quiet corner of the Old City.

So next time you're looking for that tree, come find us too.

The Yard family just got a little bigger!

Say hello to our newest crew: Nap, Miki, and Namnueng!

We welcomed them the best Yard way we know how: BBQ, cold beers, and lots of laughs. A little welcome party for the new crew and a fun night for the whole team. 🍻

You might spot them at The Yard Chiang Mai or The Yard Bangkok, so don't forget to say hi.

Go easy on them pleaseee, they're new 😂 They're excited to meet you all and ready to make your stay even more fun.

One thing we always talk about with our Yarders is travel

“Where have you been?” and “Any places you’d recommend?” 🌍✈️

But then we started wondering…

What do you do when you’re not traveling?

Let’s hear what our Yarders from The Yard Bangkok and The Yard Chiang Mai had to say!

How about you? What do you usually do when you’re not exploring somewhere new?

Let us know in the comments! :))

July in Chiang Mai is unpredictable. One minute it’s sunny, the next minute it’s pouring. 😅

Maybe the weather doesn’t always let you do what you planned… but it usually gives you an excuse to grab a beer, play a few games, have long conversations, and make new friends instead!!

That’s pretty much what July at The Yard Chiang Mai Old City looks like. :))

Things might not go as expected, but often that’s when the best memories are made!!

At The Yard, you don’t just meet new people, but you will get to reconnect with nature too. 🌿

Our big trees in both The Yard hostel Bangkok and The Yard hostel Chiang Mai have been quietly welcoming travelers for years, offering shade, calm, and a place to pause.

So next time you walk by, please feel free to stop for a free hug from our Mother Nature. Take a deep breath, slow down, and enjoy the moment.

Sometimes, the best kind of connection isn’t through Wi-Fi, it’s with nature too!😊
