The Trafficking in Persons report 2024 highlights a growing concern: trafficking for fraud and online scams, particularly along the borders of Mekong region countries. Victims, including educated individuals, are trafficked from Southeast Asia and beyond. They are forced into IT scams and even coerced into recruiting others, often trapped in armed compounds with dormitories and offices. Threats and debt bo***ge keep them enslaved in this system.
