The Kinnari and Kinnara dance are mythical half-bird, half-human beings from Buddhist and Southeast Asian literature. In Shan culture, they symbolize beauty, kindness, grace, wisdom, and harmony between humans and nature.
This traditional dance has been passed down through generations within Shan communities and is often performed during important cultural celebrations, religious festivals, and community ceremonies. The graceful hand movements, elegant costumes, and gentle music reflect the richness of Shan identity and traditional arts.
For the Shan people, this dance is not only a performance but also a way to preserve cultural heritage, strengthen community connections, and pass traditional values to younger generations.
Today’s performance is proudly presented by youth from Shan Youth Power, an organization supporting education and opportunities for Shan migrant and stateless children and youth.
Thank you, and we hope you enjoy the performance.
