If you have applied, please kindly respond to the email and be ready to answer any phone calls from our team.

The selection process was incredibly challenging, as every applicant truly deserved to be part of this program. However, due to our limited financial and human resources, we were only able to select a certain number of participants. If you did not receive an email, we regret to inform you that you were not selected for this round of the workshop.

The Burma Students' Association – CMU highly values the voices of all students based in Chiang Mai and is committed to continuously creating better support programs in the future.

Youth Thinkers' Space Workshop

The Burma Students Association-CMU at Chiang Mai University is pleased to introduce the Youth Thinkers Space: A Workshop on Critical Thinking and Public Speaking.

The Youth Thinkers' Space (YTS) Workshop is a continuation of the momentum built by the Youth Debate Camp held in May. It was created to further enhance the voices and confidence of young people.

Young people who have relocated from Myanmar due to various circumstances often face numerous challenges, including language barriers, cultural differences, and communication difficulties. Sometimes, it’s even hard to connect with fellow youths who share similar experiences. This workshop is therefore designed to help strengthen critical thinking and public speaking skills, while fostering meaningful peer connections.

This event is made possible with the support—both financial and intellectual—of our partners: Burma Study Center, The Regional Center for Social Science and Sustainable Development (RCSD), Chiang Mai University, and BEAM Education Foundation.
Throughout the two-day workshop, we will explore the following topics:

1. Critical Thinking
2. Argumentation
3. Fallacies
4. Public Speaking

We warmly invite you to join us in learning these valuable skills through engaging discussions, interactive thinking exercises, and fun games. Let’s come together from different backgrounds to exchange ideas and build a vibrant and inclusive community.

Myanmar Earthquake Relief Online Fundraiser - FINAL UPDATE
[အောက်တွင် ဗမာလိုပါရှိသည်။]

In response to the devastating 7.7-magnitude earthquake centered in Sagaing Region, Myanmar on 28 March 2025, which led to the loss of lives, homes, and livelihoods, the Burma Students Association-CMU at Chiang Mai University and Burma Study Center (BSC) organized an Urgent Earthquake Relief Online Fundraiser from 30 March to 6 April 2025

Alongside our online fundraiser, students from Burma at Chiang Mai University actively participated in various activities in both online and in-person fundraising events in Chiang Mai city. These included selling food and drinks, creating and selling artworks and postcards, hosting performances, and organizing collective donation drives.

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Regional Center for Social Sciences and Sustainable Development (RCSD), local Thai supporters, restaurant owners in Chiang Mai, the Burmese diaspora in Chiang Mai, and caring foreign friends, as well as the tireless dedication of Burmese students at CMU, a total of 1,037,848 THB was successfully raised.

The donations were allocated as follows:
• 432,368 THB to Sagaing Region and surrounding areas
• 287,280 THB to Mandalay Region and surrounding areas
• 260,000 THB to Inle region, Shan State, and nearby areas
• 50,000 THB to 13 families in Bangkok who lost family members due to the quake
• 8,200 THB reserved to create and sell earthquake memorial art pieces for sustainable support efforts

The donations were distributed transparently and responsibly to 12 local community-based groups, including fire brigades, civil society organizations, social rescue teams, interfaith networks, women and children's groups, and student organizations working on the ground in affected areas.

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all friends, business owners, families, organizations, and individuals who supported this fundraiser selflessly—through donations, encouragement, and active participation.

The Youth Debate Camp (YDC) is a four-day training program co-organized by the Burma Students’ Association – Chiang Mai University (BSA-CMU), Burma Study Center, RCSD – The Regional Center for Social Science and Sustainable Development, CMU, and BEAM Education Foundation.

As the second part of the Youth Debate Camp, a Youth Debate Tournament will be held exclusively for young debaters who complete the first phase of the training. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their skills in a live competition and win awards!

Awards for the Debate Tournament include:

သည်နေ့မှာတော့ BSA-CMUအနေနဲ့ “ချင်းမိုင်ရောက်မြန်မာလူငယ်တွေအတွက် ဒီဘိတ်စခန်း”မှာ သင်ကြားလေ့ကျင့်မယ့် "ဗြိတိသျှပါလီမန် ဒီဘိတ်"အသွင်ပုံစံအမျိုးအစားအကြောင်းကို မိတ်ဆက်ပေးချင်ပါတယ်။

ပိုမိုကောင်းမွန်တဲ့အသင်းဘယ်သူဖြစ်မလဲ အဆုံးအဖြတ်ပေးမယ့် အကဲဖြတ်ဒိုင်လူကြီးတစ်ဦး (သို့မဟုတ်) တစ်ဦးထက်ပိုသူတွေရဲ့ ရှေ့မှာ ပေးထားတဲ့ ခေါင်းစဥ်တစ်ခုကို အသင်းတစ်သင်းလျှင် လူနှစ်ဦးစီပါဝင်ပြီး အသင်းလေးသင်းက အချိန် ၁၅မိနစ်အတွင်း ဗြိတိသျှပါလီမန်ထဲရှိ ပါလီမန်တက်ရောက်လာကြသူများသကဲ့သို့ တွေးခေါ်ပြောဆိုကာ အဆိုတင်သွင်း ယှဥ်ပြိုင်ရတာ ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။

(၁)ဒီဘိတ်ကို ပါဝင်လေ့ကျင့်ခြင်းတွေကတဆင့် လူအများရှေ့မှာ စကားပြောဆိုဖို့ စိုးရိမ်ပူပန်မှုနဲ့ ကြောက်စိတ်ကို အနိုင်ယူလာနိုင်မယ့် အလေ့အကျင့်ကောင်းကို အစပျိုးနိုင်ပါတယ်။
(၂)လူအများရှေ့မှာ စကားပြောဆိုဖို့ အလေ့အကျင့်ရှိပြီးသားသူတွေအတွက်လည်း ဆက်လက်လေ့ကျင့်ဖို့ လိုအပ်တဲ့ သုံးသပ်ဆန်းစစ်ခြင်း၊ အားနည်းချက်များကို စစ်ဆေးခြင်း၊ ရှေ့နောက်မလျော်ညီတဲ့ ပြောဆိုချက်တွေကို ထောက်ပြခြင်း၊နဲ့ ကျိုးကြောင်းဆီလျော်စွာ သုံးသပ်ပြောဆိုခြင်း အစရှိတဲ့ အရည်အသွေးတွေကို လေ့ကျင့်သင်ယူနိုင်ပါလိမ့်မယ်။

Burma Students’ Association–Chiang Mai University’s Youth Debate Camp

Have you already applied for the Debate Camp recently announced by BSA-CMU?
The Youth Debate Camp is a four-day program jointly organized by the Burma Students' Association–Chiang Mai University, Burma Study Center, RCSD (Regional Center for Social Science and Sustainable Development), and BEAM Education Foundation. What makes this program unique is that it will follow the British Parliamentary (BP) Debate format. One of the most powerful aspects of this style is the face-to-face exchange of ideas, which allows emotions and reasoning to be expressed more vividly and directly.
At the camp, youth participants will engage in debates centered on social and national issues. By exploring different perspectives and opinions, they will gain a deeper understanding of their communities and the world around them.
In today's world, the ability of young people to think critically and analytically is more important than ever. Debate is a powerful tool that strengthens those skills and encourages thoughtful and logical public discourse. For many generations, Burmese youth have taken great interest in debating as a practice grounded in curiosity, discipline, and passion.
Today, BSA-CMU is excited to introduce the British Parliamentary Debate format, which will be used for training and discussion at the Youth Debate Camp in Chiang Mai for youth from Burma.

In BP debate, four teams of two (eight debaters in total) compete on a given motion in front of a judge or panel of judges. Each team represents a “house” in a simulated parliamentary setting and is given 15 minutes to prepare. During the debate, they argue either in support or opposition of the motion, presenting their points in structured speeches as if they were members of parliament.

1. For those new to debating, the camp is a great way to overcome the fear of public speaking and build confidence in expressing ideas in front of others.
2. For experienced speakers, it’s an opportunity to strengthen skills like critical analysis, identifying weaknesses in arguments, recognizing logical inconsistencies, and delivering well-reasoned speeches under pressure.

This four-day intensive learning experience is a valuable opportunity for students at Chiang Mai University and young people living in Chiang Mai to come together and strengthen their debate and critical thinking skills.

အရှိန်အဟုန်နဲ့ အားကောင်းခဲ့တဲ့ လူငယ်တွေရဲ့ တွေးခေါ်ပြောဆိုမှုအတွက် စကားစစ်ထိုးတဲ့ ဒီဘိတ်အတတ်ပညာနဲ့ ပတ်သက်တဲ့ လေ့ကျင့်ရေးအစီစဉ်တွေ၊ မြေပြင်မှာတွေ့ဆုံဆွေးနွေးပွဲတွေဟာ ကိုဗစ်-၁၉ စတင်ဖြစ်ပွားချိန်ကတည်းက အားလုံးနီးပါးရပ်တန့်ခဲ့တာပါ။ အဲ့ဒီအချိန်ကစလို့ လူငယ်တွေအနေနဲ့ သင်ကြားလေ့လာမှုပုံစံအသစ်တွေနဲ့အတူ အွန်လိုင်းကနေပဲ ဝမ်းစာဖြည့်ကြိုးပမ်းခဲ့ကြရပါတယ်။

၂၀၂၁ ခုနှစ်မှာ စိန်ခေါ်မှုများကို ကြုံတွေ့ခဲ့ရပေမယ့် လူငယ်တွေရဲ့ သင်ယူလေ့လာလိုစိတ်တွေဟာ ဘယ်တော့မှရပ်တန့်မသွားခဲ့ပါဘူး။ ခုချိန်မှာတော့ အွန်လိုင်းကနေပဲ ဝမ်းစာဖြည့်ခဲ့ရတဲ့ အသိပညာတွေကို လူငယ်ဒီဘိတ်စခန်းမှာ လက်တွေ့အသုံးချလို့ရတော့မှာပါ။

Are you interested in a hands-on space where youth in Chiang Mai, including CMU students and other young people in the city, can meet, engage, and train in the art of debating during the summer break?

For years, energetic and passionate young voices have been missing from the debate floor due to the halt in face-to-face activities since the outbreak of COVID-19. Since then, youth have had to adapt and pursue learning opportunities online.

Even though 2021 brought many challenges, the thirst for learning among young people never stopped. Now, it's time to bring all that online knowledge into practice—on the ground—through our Youth Debate Camp.

Organized by Burma Students' Association-Chiang Mai University, in collaboration with Burma Study Center, RCSD The Regional Center for Social Science and Sustainable Development-Chiang Mai University, and BEAM Education Foundation, this 4-day camp will be held in Chiang Mai. What makes this camp unique is its focus on the British Parliamentary debate format, offering a dynamic and in-person experience that brings out the emotions and perspectives of each speaker.

Participants will engage in debates on critical social and national issues, exchanging diverse viewpoints and strengthening their understanding of the world around them.

💥Updates : Myanmar Earthquake Relief Online Fundraiser 🇲🇲🇹🇭

The following photos are records sent by our on-ground relief network team members. These activities were made possible thanks to the compassion and contributions made through the online fundraising campaign organized by the Burma Students’ Association – Chiang Mai University (BSA) and Burma Study Center (BSC).

Currently, in Sagaing Region, Amarapura, and Inle Lake areas, our partners have been able to distribute the following with transferred donations:
-Clean water
-Basic food supplies
-Medicines
-Some personal hygiene items

We will continue to share updates on how the remaining and upcoming funds are being managed and used. Relief efforts are still ongoing, and we plan to continue supporting areas in need of urgent assistance. 🙏

💞Earthquake Relief Update! 📷First photos of aid delivery🙏

Here are some of the first photos sent to us of our on-the-ground relief partners distributing essential aid to earthquake survivors in Sagaing and Amarapura.

The donations of bottled drinking water and prepared meals was directly purchased with YOUR donations, with funds collected through our Urgent Earthquake Relief Online Fundraiser. As of today, a total of 200,000 THB (12,400,000 MMK / $6,250 US) has been transferred to our partners inside Myanmar.

As many people are sleeping outside after having their residences completely destroyed or due to fears of aftershocks, they continue to struggle significantly with no access to water, electricity, phone or internet signals. The Myanmar authorities have severely restricted access to some of the hardest hit areas without delivering any meaningful assistance to locals.

Water, food, and shelter are basic essentials for survival! In addition to continuing to provide clean water and food, we hope to be able to supply blankets, mosquito nets, clothing, and hygiene products to those affected in the coming days.

PLEASE continue supporting the online fundraiser to help us reach our target by the end of this week, and don't forget to visit the big earthquake fundraiser event this Sunday, April 6, if you are in Chiang Mai! 🙏
