จากความหลากหลายทางภาษา…สู่ความเข้าใจผู้เรียน และอนาคตการศึกษาของแม่ฮ่องสอน
จังหวัดแม่ฮ่องสอนเป็นพื้นที่ที่สะท้อนถึงความหลากหลายทางภาษาและวัฒนธรรมอันโดดเด่น ด้วยชุมชนหลากหลายกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์และภาษาท้องถิ่น ซึ่งเป็นรากฐานสำคัญของอัตลักษณ์ วิถีชีวิต และการเรียนรู้ของเด็ก ๆ ในพื้นที่ การยอมรับและเข้าใจความหลากหลายนี้ คือก้าวสำคัญสู่การสร้างการศึกษาที่ครอบคลุมและเท่าเทียม เพื่อให้เด็กทุกคนได้เรียนรู้ในสภาพแวดล้อมที่เคารพภาษา วัฒนธรรม และความต้องการที่แตกต่างกัน
เพื่อให้ความหลากหลายทางภาษาได้รับการมองเห็น เข้าใจ และนำมาใช้ประโยชน์เพื่อการพัฒนาการศึกษาอย่างเป็นระบบ มูลนิธิภาษาศาสตร์ประยุกต์ (FAL) ร่วมกับ องค์การยูนิเซฟ ประเทศไทย มหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏเชียงใหม่ และภาคีเครือข่ายด้านการศึกษา ได้ร่วมกันพัฒนา “ระบบแผนที่ภาษา จังหวัดแม่ฮ่องสอน (Mae Hong Son Language Mapping)” นับเป็นอีกก้าวสำคัญในการส่งเสริมการศึกษาที่มีคุณภาพ ครอบคลุม และเท่าเทียม
ระบบแผนที่ภาษาไม่ได้เป็นเพียงฐานข้อมูลด้านภาษา แต่เป็นเครื่องมือที่อ้างอิงข้อมูลเชิงประจักษ์ ซึ่งช่วยให้ครู ผู้บริหารสถานศึกษา นักการศึกษา และหน่วยงานที่เกี่ยวข้อง เข้าใจบริบททางภาษาและวัฒนธรรมของผู้เรียน สามารถนำข้อมูลไปใช้ในการวางแผนและออกแบบการจัดการเรียนรู้ที่ตอบสนองต่อผู้เรียน โดยเฉพาะการจัดการศึกษาโดยใช้ภาษาแม่เป็นฐาน (Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education: MTB-MLE) ซึ่งช่วยให้เด็กเริ่มต้นการเรียนรู้ด้วยภาษาที่คุ้นเคย และค่อย ๆ พัฒนาทักษะภาษาไทยและภาษาอื่น ๆ อย่างเป็นลำดับ

UNICEF Thailand, the Foundation for Applied Linguistics, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, and Partners Launch the Mae Hong Son Language Mapping Initiative to Strengthen Inclusive Education
Mae Hong Son, Thailand – 13 August 2026 – UNICEF Thailand, the Foundation for Applied Linguistics (FAL), Chiang Mai Rajabhat University (CMRU), and education partners will officially launch the Mae Hong Son Language Mapping initiative, an important milestone in promoting equitable and inclusive education for children in one of Thailand’s most linguistically and culturally diverse provinces.
💜Mae Hong Son is home to numerous ethnic communities whose languages and cultures are an integral part of children’s identities, daily lives, and learning experiences. Recognizing and understanding this diversity is essential to ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn in an environment that respects their language, culture, and unique learning needs.
The Mae Hong Son Language Mapping initiative provides a comprehensive picture of the province’s linguistic landscape. More than a language database, it serves as an evidence-based resource that supports teachers, school leaders, education authorities, and development partners in designing learning environments that are responsive to learners’ linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
The initiative also supports the implementation of Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE), an approach that enables children to begin learning in their first language while gradually developing proficiency in Thai and additional languages. International evidence has consistently shown that learning through a familiar language during the early years improves educational outcomes, strengthens literacy, increases classroom participation, and promotes greater equity in education.
The Language Mapping initiative reflects the shared commitment of UNICEF Thailand, the Foundation for Applied Linguistics, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, and their partners to ensuring that language diversity is recognized as a valuable educational resource. By transforming language data into practical tools for educational planning and classroom practice, the initiative aims to support more inclusive, effective, and child-centred education across Mae Hong Son Province.
The official launch event will bring together representatives from government agencies, universities, schools, development organizations, and local communities to showcase how language mapping can contribute to evidence-informed policy, culturally responsive teaching, and sustainable educational development.
