Accelerate Action – Respond to the Climate Crisis
In pursuit of its vital mission to cultivate environmental awareness, promote low-carbon practices, and strengthen the capacity of local YMCAs to implement climate-resilient and ecologically responsible programs, Sao Hin YMCA organized the YMCA International Green Ambassadors Training in Chiang Mai, Thailand, from 26th to 31st May 2025.
The training brought together 35 participants, including YMCA staff, volunteers, teachers, and youth from the YMCAs of Denmark, Lao PDR, Myanmar, the Philippines, and Thailand.
The program aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of climate change, sustainable development, and social justice, while encouraging systems thinking in addressing complex environmental challenges. It sought to strengthen leadership capacity for climate action by equipping participants with up-to-date knowledge, innovative strategies, and practical tools for real-world application.
Participants exchanged best practices in energy efficiency and environmental conservation, highlighting successful climate mitigation and adaptation initiatives from YMCAs and schools in their respective countries. Through interactive workshops, they developed individual and collective climate action plans to be implemented within their local YMCA communities, supported by ongoing mentorship and follow-up.
By the end of the training, participants had co-created a shared agenda for YMCA Green Ambassadors and launched a solidarity campaign under the banner of ‘YMCA Climate Action’, with hashtags:
This campaign aims to foster continued collaboration, expand the Green Ambassadors network, and inspire a united movement towards a more sustainable and resilient future for the YMCA and the communities it serves.
