On March 26th, we had the pleasure of delivering our Sustainability Education English Programme at Meritton British International School, engaging both students and parents in a full day of learning, sharing, and meaningful connection.

It was a truly positive and heart-centered experience. The energy in the room was open, engaged, and collaborative. Through interactive activities and discussions, we explored important topics such as waste management in Chiang Mai, while also raising awareness about the work of the Chiang Mai Nayu Foundation and our latest initiative, the Chiang Mai Recycling Road Map.

This marks our third consecutive year collaborating with Meritton British International School, and we are deeply grateful for the continued trust and support from the school directors and their dedicated team.

We are especially encouraged by the enthusiasm of the students and parents, and by the shared commitment to building more awareness and responsibility within the community.

It was a full and rewarding day for both of us, and we leave with a strong sense that this work is making a difference.

More to come 🙂🙏.

Dear Supporters, we are excited to announce the launch of a new program, the Chiang Mai Recycling Roadmap.

This work follows on from our foundations previous research on Waste Management in Chiang Mai.

Excessive plastic use and inadequate recycling practices negatively affect the image of Chiang Mai. A clean Chiang Mai requires waste sorting at the source and a coordinated recycling system that reduces landfill pressure, creates green jobs, and restores community pride.

Under the new Thai Public Health Act 2025, residents in Bangkok will pay less for their waste collection if they sort their waste at home before pick-up. The Thai Public Health act supports waste sorting at the source, and empowers municipalities to collect fees that reflect real costs.

The Chiang Mai Recycling Roadmap is to designed to enhance awareness among residents of the importance of key sustainability issues, and provide solutions. This plan takes into account what recycling initiatives have worked successfully in other countries such as Japan, Korea and the Netherlands. And it outlines the steps to be taken in order to provide waste recycling in Chiang Mai.

When the rules are simple, the bins are close, and results are public, participation follows.

Dear supporters,

We are announcing a great opportunity for Thai Volunteers (English speaking), to participate on an exciting ongoing educational project in Chiang Mai.

This is a career opportunity for Thai volunteers, on assisting translations English to Thai, to primary Thai students, once a week.

Thai volunteers that would like to participate on this project, would benefit greatly in developing their English skills for their professional career.

Please message us if you would like to know more about this project.
Thank you.

When "Namwhan" Kotchasorn Phannarangsri travelled through the farmlands of North Carolina during her exchange year, a question began to form in her mind. Why couldn't the systems she witnessed there—farmers transforming waste into value, earning stable incomes, living with dignity—exist in her family's hometowns of Songkhla and Nakhon Si Thammarat?

Now, 20-year-old Chulalongkorn University student 'Namwhan' Kotchasorn Phannarangsri is applying circular economy principles to transform agricultural waste into valuable products.

Her ultimate goal is to restore dignity to farming by giving farmers more choices, knowledge, and direct market access to ensure they receive a fair share of value.

A worthy read and inspiration for all, to work with nature and nature based solutions.

Building a Flourishing and Sustainable Chiang Mai 🌱

Over the past months we have been, researching, working on the ground, and learning more about how recycling can grow stronger in the city.

The photos we share today show moments from this journey — working on the research, teaching and donating a recycling bin to a local school.

Very soon we will publish on our website our first research of 2026:

“The Recycling Road Map for Chiang Mai.” ♻️

This project explores practical ideas and positive examples from around the world that can inspire a stronger recycling culture in the city — built through cooperation between communities, schools, businesses, and local institutions.

We look forward to sharing this work with the Chiang Mai community.

Stay tuned — the Recycling Road Map will be published soon. 🌱

Thailand and Plastic:

State agencies, private companies and civic organisations have launched campaigns to cut plastic waste and promote circular practices (sorting/recycling).

One of the most direct ways to reduce carbon dioxide emissions is to change the way businesses and households handle plastics. From production lines to kitchen tables, the push is on to minimise reliance on virgin plastic, those made from fossil fuels, and to embrace recycling and green alternatives....plastic made from Bamboo, Sugar Cane etc.

The Thailand Plastics roadmap, 2018 to 2030, sets ambitious targets and actions are taking shape to achieve the nations goals.

Building upon our Sustainability Education English Program. This is an example of our work during the Year 2025 ...installing a recycling container at a local public school here in Chiang Mai, ... supporting students and staff embed sustainability practices (recycling) into their daily habits. https://chiangmainayu.org/our-work/education-for-sustainability/
