The Philippine Association of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Inc. (PATMeGH) proudly announces its official membership to the International Federation for Tropical Medicine (IFTM).

PATMeGH is honored to be the FIRST and ONLY organization from the Philippines to become a member of the IFTM — a significant step forward in strengthening global collaboration in tropical medicine and global health. This achievement reflects our continuing commitment to advancing research, education, innovation, and international partnerships toward improving health outcomes in the Philippines and beyond.

Anchored on the theme “𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐭𝐡 𝐢𝐧 𝐚 𝐃𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝,” the international gathering brought together global health leaders, researchers, and partners to advance tropical medicine, strengthen collaboration, and promote sustainable health solutions that transcend borders.

Through shared commitment and collective action, three PATMeGH founding members presented their research studies to help build bridges toward a healthier and more connected world:

• 𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐭𝐲𝐩𝐞-𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝑩𝒍𝒂𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒄𝒚𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒔 𝐬𝐩. 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬, presented by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗗𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗻 𝗘𝗱𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗩. 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗼 as an invited speaker for S24, highlighting host specificity, genetic diversity, and zoonotic insights of Blastocystis sp. in the Philippine setting.

• 𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐬𝐢𝐚, presented by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗣𝗶𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗶 𝗚. 𝗩𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 under S09, emphasizing antimicrobial resistance challenges in agriculture through a One Health lens, with implications for public health and food safety.

• 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐮𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐚𝐠𝐧𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐏𝐀–𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐚𝐲, presented by 𝗗𝗿. 𝗝𝗼𝘆 𝗔𝗻𝗻 𝗣. 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗼𝘀 under S13, showcasing an innovative, rapid, and field-ready diagnostic approach to improve rotavirus detection.

Together, these contributions underscore PATMeGH’s continued commitment to advancing scientific excellence, fostering international collaboration, and translating research into meaningful actions for sustainable global health.

🌿 A Historic Day for Tropical Medicine and Global Health in the Philippines! 🌿

Last November 21, the Philippine Association of Tropical Medicine and Global Health, Inc. (PATMeGH), successfully held its 𝟭𝘀𝘁 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵 at the Institute of Biology Auditorium, UP Diliman — a significant milestone marking the formal beginning of PATMeGH’s mission to strengthen research, collaboration, and advocacy in tropical medicine and global health.

The afternoon opened with a warm Opening Remarks from PATMeGH President 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗟. 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮, setting the tone for a shared vision of scientific excellence and community impact.

✨ Key Messages were delivered by distinguished international and local leaders in the field, including 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗲𝘆𝘂𝗸𝗶 𝗞𝗮𝗻𝗼 (President-Elect, International Federation of Tropical Medicine), 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗧𝗲𝘁𝘀𝘂 𝗬𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗿𝗼 (President, Japanese Society of Tropical Medicine), and PATMeGH Advisory Board Members 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗡𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗚. 𝗚𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗶 and 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗝𝗮𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗖. 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗼𝘆𝗮. Their insights emphasized global collaboration, scientific innovation, and the importance of building a strong Philippine voice in global health discourse.

The assembly proceeded with the Presentation and Oathtaking of Officers and Founding Members, officially recognizing the pioneering individuals who will shape PATMeGH’s direction. This was followed by the Presentation of the PATMeGH Logo, Constitution, and By-Laws, symbolizing the organization’s identity and foundational principles.

• 𝙎𝙮𝙣𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙋𝙚𝙥𝙩𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝘼𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙜𝙚𝙣 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙀𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙄𝙣𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚𝙨 — presented by 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗹 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗠. 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗰𝗼𝘀𝗮, offering a forward-looking perspective on immunological tools against infectious threats.

• 𝙁𝙐𝙍𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙨: 𝙊𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙋𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙘 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙩𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙋𝙚𝙩𝙨 — delivered by 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗹 𝗟. 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆, shedding light on zoonotic risks that often go unnoticed but have significant implications for public health.

• An 𝙊𝙥𝙚𝙣 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙪𝙢 allowed participants to engage directly with the speakers, fostering discussion, collaboration, and shared learning.

The event concluded with heartfelt Closing Remarks from PATMeGH Vice President for Internal Affairs, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗝𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗠𝗮. 𝗠. 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘀, followed by a symbolic Signing of the “Wall of Support”, where attendees expressed their commitment to PATMeGH’s mission.
