Safety is not built by asking survivors to protect themselves. It is built by demanding that communities refuse to tolerate harm.

When s*xual violence occurs in closed social spaces, the immediate question should never be "Why didn't they leave?" or "What were they wearing?" The question must always be: Who saw something and said nothing? Who enabled the environment? Who protected the space instead of the person?

The details surrounding cases like Chi Phi highlight a pervasive, dangerous culture of bystander complicity. From private group chats where warning signs are ignored to peer networks that enforce codes of silence, harm thrives in the quiet approval of passive witnesses.

Accountability means holding everyone in the room responsible for the culture they allow to exist.

Erasure is a form of structural violence.

This , Equal Asia Foundation stands in solidarity with the bis*xual, pans*xual, and fluid (Bi+) communities across Asia and the Pacific.

Bi+ individuals make up a significant portion of the LGBTIQ+ spectrum, yet they face a unique double burden: systemic discrimination from broader monos*xist societies, alongside biphobia and erasure within mainstream q***r spaces.

When we look at the data, the impact of this erasure is clear. Bi+ people across our region report higher rates of mental health distress, intimate partner violence, and barriers to accessing identity-affirming healthcare. In many Asian countries, legal frameworks fail to recognize fluid s*xualities, forcing individuals into rigid categories that erase their lived realities.

True inclusion demands that we dismantle the myth of the binary—not just in gender, but in attraction. We must build policy, healthcare, and community spaces that honor fluid identities without requiring explanation or compromise.

💖💜💙 Visibility is vital, but structural protection, mental health equity, and full acceptance are the ultimate goals.

Before there was treatment, there was silence.

Four years after the first cases of what became known as AIDS were reported in the US, the government had still not publicly addressed the crisis. By the time it did, tens of thousands were already dead — most of them gay men, at a moment when their lives were treated as expendable by the very institutions meant to protect them.

It took organizing, protest, and relentless pressure from LGBTIQ+ communities and their allies to force funding, faster drug approval, and public acknowledgment. Democracy didn't deliver that response on its own — people had to demand it.

This history isn't just American, and it isn't just history. Across Asia today, LGBTIQ+ communities continue to face gaps in health funding, recognition, and political voice — and the same lesson holds: institutions respond when communities organize and hold them accountable.

Mental health does not exist in a vacuum. True su***de prevention requires us to change the conditions in which people live, love, and survive.

Across Asia, marginalized individuals—including LGBTIQ+ people, neurodivergent community members, s*x workers, refugees, and older adults—face disproportionate rates of mental health distress. This is not because of who they are, but because of the chronic stress of living in systems that inflict daily stigma, criminalization, family rejection, and economic exclusion.

Prevention cannot just mean telling people to "stay strong." It means:

Indigenous land is not a resource to be extracted; it is a legacy to be honored, protected, and returned.

Today, on International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, Equal Asia Foundation stands in deep solidarity with Indigenous communities across Asia and the Pacific who continue to guard our planet’s biodiversity and preserve invaluable cultural heritage.

Across our region, Indigenous peoples—particularly Indigenous women, LGBTQI+ individuals, and youth—are on the frontlines of climate resilience, environmental justice, and defense of human rights. Yet, they face systemic land dispossession, economic marginalization, and the ongoing erosion of their ancestral sovereignty.

Decolonization is not a metaphor—it requires concrete action. It demands that governments and international institutions respect the right to Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC), protect Indigenous land defenders, and actively center Indigenous wisdom in climate policy and environmental governance.

We are deeply saddened by today's shooting at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Bang Kruai, Nonthaburi. Our hearts go out to the students, staff, and families of this school community during this devastating time.

As an organisation rooted in the wellbeing and safety of communities across Asia, we recognise that violence in a school setting reverberates far beyond those directly affected. We hold particular concern for students who may already feel vulnerable or marginalised within their school environments, for whom moments like this can compound existing anxieties about safety and belonging.

We will continue our work toward safer, more inclusive spaces for all.
