“Tell me honestly... what are you really transporting?” 🤨🏴‍☠️

That was the chilling first question from authorities when they saw the "insane" 3 week itinerary of the NomadMania Pirate Crew, sparking a journey shrouded in mystery where a quest for islands turned into a series of unbelievable coincidences and high-stakes survival.

From wandering the eerie, ash-covered ghost ruins of Montserrat to the heart-stopping moment - total engine failure left the crew drifting in silence on the open sea, every day felt like a brush with the impossible.

This mission pushed the crew to the very edge of reality, featuring "glitches in the matrix" like crossing paths with a fellow NomadMania traveller on a tiny 12-passenger plane during a political lockdown, a shadow-like cruise ship that seemed to haunt their exact route, and a mysterious local who appeared from the shadows to save the group when they were stranded during a high-level diplomatic visit by Marco Rubio.

It’s incredible how fast things can change in our world. Just a little over a week ago, our members met in Kuwait for iftar together. A few days later, another gathering was scheduled in Dubai — and we all know what happened.

Despite everything, the NomadMania community in the UAE still managed to meet a few days later. At the same time, other meetups were taking place around the world: in Wrocław, Poland; Jakarta, Indonesia; and even on the remote Pacific island of Kosrae.

What an incredible community we have — resilient, global, and always finding ways to connect.

Our respected member and recipient of the NomadMania award for Most Purposeful Traveler 2025, Barry Hoffner, has just published his book Belonging to the World.

The book closes a profound chapter of Barry’s life — more than eight years of a meaningful journey toward every country in the world, born out of the tragic loss of his wife, Jackie.
