Moving seed across borders means navigating a different set of phytosanitary rules in every market. The new Seed Phytosanitary Portal is here to make that easier.

The portal gives seed traders, researchers, and National Plant Protection Organizations easy access to up-to-date phytosanitary regulations across seven countries: Bangladesh, Cambodia, Laos, Nepal, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam. For each, you'll find export and import requirements along with direct links to the relevant regulations and competent authorities.

This portal is the result of a regional project, "Strengthening Phytosanitary Compliance to Boost Seed Trade in the Asia-Pacific," funded by the Standards and Trade Development Facility (World Trade Organization - WTO) and implemented by Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions The work brought together APSA: The Asia and Pacific Seed Association , American Seed Trade Association, CropLife Asia, and International Seed Federation.

🌏 On 22–23 July, APAARI participated in the Mekong Forum 2026 in Bangkok, organized by the Mekong Institute. The forum brought together experts from government, academia, development organizations, civil society, and regional institutions to discuss practical solutions for building resilient food systems and healthier ecosystems.

The discussions emphasized the importance of moving beyond identifying challenges to implementing evidence-based actions. Key themes included:
🔹 One Health and nexus-based risk assessment
🔹 Food safety and soil health
🔹 Community-based surveillance and risk literacy
🔹 Real-time data sharing and digital innovation
🔹 Multi-stakeholder partnerships and regional cooperation
🔹 Building trust through inclusive and evidence-informed decision-making

One of the strongest takeaways was that data alone is not enough—it must lead to action. Effective community engagement, strengthened surveillance systems, and trusted regional partnerships are essential for transforming evidence into sustainable solutions.

🌱 Strengthening Phytosanitary Compliance and Public-Private Partnership for Safer Seed Trade in Asia-Pacific

After three years of collaboration, the Standard and Trade Development Facility-funded regional project, Strengthening Phytosanitary Compliance and Public–Private Partnerships to Boost Seed Trade in the Asia-Pacific Region, concluded with the Project Closing Workshop.

Implemented by APAARI in partnership with International Seed Federation, APSA: The Asia and Pacific Seed Association, CropLife Asia (CLA), and the American Seed Trade Association (ASTA), the project supported , , , , the , , and in strengthening phytosanitary systems through technical capacity development, policy support, digitalization, and stronger public–private partnerships.

Key achievements:
🌾 Trained 395+ government officials across the seven participating countries.
💻 Launched the Seed Phyto Portal to improve access to phytosanitary regulations and facilitate regional seed trade.
🤝 Strengthened collaboration between National Plant Protection Organizations (NPPOs) and the private seed sector.
📈 Advanced countries' implementation of the International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPMs) and supported the development of national sustainability roadmaps.

ICRISAT at the Asia-Pacific Biopesticides Community of Practice (ABCoP) workshop!

The workshop, organized by the Asia-Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions, Thailand, on 1 July 2026, brought together more than 40 participants from over eight countries, including representatives from FAO South-East Asia.

Dr Jagdish Jaba, Scientist and Lead–Entomology, ICRISAT, joined virtually and delivered a presentation on "Advancing Biopesticides for Dryland Crops: Present Insights and Future Pathways in and ." The presentation highlighted ICRISAT's efforts on and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in advancing sustainable pest management for resilient dryland agriculture.
