APCASO & ACT!AP supported our partners Trisuli Plus Community Action Group -Tpcag, in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis Control Center (NTCC), CCM Nepal, and ACT Nepal -Affected Community by TB Nepal, to successfully organize the National TB Program, Civil Society & Community Consultation for the Global Fund Grant Cycle 8 (GC8) Funding Request in Kathmandu recently.

The consultation brought together government representatives, civil society, TB survivors, community leaders, and partners to discuss priorities, gaps, and community-led recommendations for strengthening Nepal’s TB response.

The meaningful participation of TB-affected communities and civil society reaffirmed one important message: ending TB is only possible when communities are at the center of decision-making.

These activities are part of the Phase II of the Community Engagement Strategic Initiative (CE SI) project in in 3 countries, Mongolia, Nepal and Pakistan under the The Global Fund's Grant Cycle 7 from 2024-2026 on Long-term capacity strengthening of TB community networks and organisations at country level.

Today is and this year, the Regional Gender Justice and Sexual Rights Initiative (REGENERATE) is calling for something more than mosquito nets.

Our new Asia-Pacific Situational Analysis reveals that malaria is not just a public health crisis. It’s a gender justice issue.

Cases in the region rose from 8.8 million to 10.4 million in just one year. But who carries the heaviest burden? Women, girls, and pregnant people, held back by barriers that go far beyond biology.

Gender-transformative malaria programming is what closes the gap between who gets sick and who gets care. That is what REGENERATE is working toward, together with partners KHANA (Cambodia), SWING (Thailand), and SCDI (Vietnam).

On March 31, civil society from across Asia-Pacific gathered in Bangkok for a conversation that is gaining momentum across the region: what does it look like when communities lead the One Health response?

Organized by APCASO, in collaboration with CIRAD and PREZODE, this One Health Festival side event brought together 30 participants from seven countries to map community-led One Health interventions and explore how they connect to HIV, TB, and malaria programming. The message from the room was consistent: the work is already happening.

Community health workers are already living alongside livestock. Cross-border surveillance networks are already in place. Trusted relationships with vulnerable populations are already built. What's needed now is to connect what exists, name it for what it is, have governments integrate it in health programming, and ensure civil society has the tools to bring it into GC8.

What a day at the One Health Festival Side Event on Mapping Community-Led One Health Interventions for Prevention across the Asia-Pacific region in Bangkok!

We gathered at Kasetsart University — both in person and online — for a full day of learning, sharing, and strategizing on integrating One Health into HIV, TB, and malaria responses and the Global Fund GC8 strategy.

We heard from APCASO partners across the region on their on-the-ground implementation of One Health interventions, from the Global Fund on how to meaningfully integrate One Health into the GC8 strategy, and explored the One Health Intervention and Network (OHIN) Mapping Tool — a powerful resource for connecting and documenting community-led initiatives across Asia-Pacific.

As the workshop wraps up, one thing is clear: while the day may be ending, the opportunities for collaboration are just beginning.

Thank you to our partners CIRAD, PREZODE, and everyone who joined us in person and online. The work continues!

APCASO & ACT!AP was in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia to support our partners Монголын Сүрьеэтэй Тэмцэх Холбоо Mongolian anti-Tuberculosis Coalition to conduct the 2nd phase of the TB-affected communities dialogue in the lead up to the country's GC8 grant making process.

The inputs from the dialogue were consolidated into 4 packages comprising 11 interventions; that will be included in the country grant for GC8.
1. Community-based TB prevention and early detection
2. People-centered support (during treatment)
3. Social protection and human rights–based support
4. Community systems and accountability mechanisms

For transgender people across Asia-Pacific, visibility is not only about being seen. It is about accessing health services without fear, being addressed with dignity, and having their identity reflected in the policies and programmes designed to keep them healthy. Too often, that is still not the reality. The gaps are documented. The barriers are known.

The Regional Gender Justice and Sexual Rights Initiative (REGENERATE) is taking an honest look at what our health systems still fail to do. We work alongside partners — KHANA in Cambodia, SWING in Thailand, and SCDI in Viet Nam — to capacitate civil society and community-based organisations with the knowledge and tools needed to advocate for inclusive health policies, and we bring that evidence directly to the duty bearers with the authority to act on it.

REGENERATE is supported by L’Intiative and Expertise France.
