APCASO joins the CIRAD and PREZODE team at this year’s Global Health Security Conference in Kuala Lumpur.

At the PREZODE/CIRAD/APCASO/SCDI conference “From Awareness to Action: Strengthening One Health Surveillance
through Serious Games and Community Engagement” session yesterday, our Executive Director, RD Marte, presented APCASO-developed info-resources on and related to community-based surveillance as well as
country cases of community and civil society collaborations with government duty-bearers in pandemic risk mapping and surveillance. The tools and country examples were drawn for our Community Engagement in Pandemic Preparedness and Response (COPPER) programme experiences. RD also joined the team of facilitators that rolled out the CIRAD and PREZODE-developed ALERT game as part of the session, aimed to build participants’ capacity to design, implement, and
strengthen integrated One Health surveillance systems through participatory, game-based
learning.

The game and the whole session underscored the critical role of communities in disease surveillance and control, all as part of the One Health Approach.

APCASO joins the PREZODE and CIRAD team this week to engage at the 2026 Global Health Security Conference.

At the opening plenary, the importance of trust of the people to their government and of vibrant civic spaces are highlighted as measurable determinants of global health security (GHS). At APCASO, we believe that strong community systems are the foundation of effective health policy. That includes One Health.

APCASO is joining PREZODE, CIRAD, RAME, ACT Africa, RANI, RANA, EANNASO and others in an international study examining how CSOs contribute to the development and implementation of One Health policies worldwide. The study builds on regional work carried out in Africa by CIRAD and RAME with support from L’Initiative.

The findings will feed into a technical report and policy brief to strengthen CSO engagement in One Health governance, with results to be presented at national and international meetings in 2026.

If you work with a CSO in Asia-Pacific, your experience is essential to ensuring this evidence reflects our region. Please take 20 minutes to complete the survey: https://lnkd.in/gYUcCMDY

Treatment for drug-resistant tuberculosis (DR-TB) is complex, and can cause side effects throughout the body. Active drug safety monitoring and management (aDSM) and pharmacovigilance (PV)—tools that help identify, report, and manage side effects—are critical to supporting the implementation of newer regimens. Innovations in TB support tools like AI companions and expressive writing and photography initiatives are filling gaps in care, and can help identify treatment side effects.

TAG and KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation are excited to present an upcoming webinar: Using Digital Storytelling and AI for Active Drug Safety Monitoring in Tuberculosis Care on Tuesday, June 30, at 9 a.m. EST. This is the latest installment in the series of virtual trainings for community and civil society organizations hosted by TAG under the Unitaid-funded ASCENT DR-TB Project.

In this webinar, KNCV staff will present cutting-edge technologies and artistic techniques that help people with TB express lived experiences and seek support during treatment. Specifically, KNCV will discuss Aida, a WhatsApp-based digital companion, and PhotoLetters to TB, a creative media initiative, to explore how digital tools and storytelling can enable community participation in active TB drug safety monitoring and management.
