On June 11, the DPF welcomed a group of 20 students from Singapore Management University, who visited the foundation to learn more about its work and community initiatives. During the visit, Khru Prateep and Prof. Dr. Tatsuya Hata warmly welcomed the students and gave a presentation on the foundation’s activities and the current situation in the Khlong Toei community. The students also toured the community to gain firsthand insight into the living conditions of local residents, took part in activities with children at the kindergarten, and assisted in distributing lunch and snacks.

Scholarships for New Academic Year

On May 12, the DPF organized its annual scholarship presentation ceremony for poor children. Mr. Bamrung Samniangam (Director of Klong Toey District Office) honored proceedings by acting as ceremony chairperson. The event opened with a contemporary dance performance and an exhibition of Thai Boxing, followed by a video highlighting the various activities of the Duang Prateep Foundation. DPF Chairperson, Dr. Sant Hathirat, delivered the welcome speech to Mr. Samniangam and all the honored guests. Khru Prateep then informed the gathering of the results of our Educational Sponsorship Program in the last academic year.
Scholarships were presented to a representative group of 150 students (the DPF currently provides scholarships to 1,200 students from Primary school to Tertiary level). In addition, 104 outstanding students received awards in various categories, such as good academic grades (80 students); showing gratitude to parents/guardians (10 students) and 14 who graduated from universities. A scholarship student who succeeded in his studies shared his experience about the importance of these scholarships, and expressed his appreciation to all sponsors. An informal get-together between the children and their sponsors was organized at the end of proceedings. Thank you to all supporters, school representatives, local organizations and community leaders who attended.

The Duang Prateep Foundation has received a donation of air purifiers from WEDO AIR, a supplier of cost-effective indoor air purifiers in Thailand.
The units have been installed in the classroom and the medical room, where they are now in daily use. The donated units filter fine particulate matter and other airborne pollutants from the rooms where our children learn and receive care.

Upskilling Teachers to Help Students
On 5 May, Mr. Sanont Wangsaengboon (Deputy Governor of Bangkok) organized a meeting of the steering committee for the Development of Education and Technology at the Chumchon Moobaan Pattana School. The meeting was convened under the auspices of the Klong Toey District Participatory Development Committee, with Khru Prateep (Chairperson of Education and Technology) and committee members exchanging ideas on development approaches.
One idea of Khru Prateep is for local international schools to provide short-term training for new English language teachers, who can then improve the English language skills of children and youths in the Klong Toey area, increase their confidence in communication, and open opportunities for broader learning. In this respect, the DPF is collaborating with the NIST International School. We aim to prepare our students to become true “global citizens” in a world where communication in a single language may not be sufficient for life in the future.
Thank you to all participants in this innovative project: the Director of Klong Toey District Office, Chumchon Moobaan Pattana School, Dr. Kannika Leelapanyalert (Deputy School Director of NIST), representatives from Loxley Public Co. Ltd., the Senior Professional Educational Supervisor (Klong Toey District) and four Educational Institutes in Klong Toey District.
