🫶👩‍💻 Update:

After weeks of hard work modifying, improving, and refining the “Unlimbited Phoenix”, this is where we are up to. Here are just some close ups on the details of each component.

This is definitely a time-consuming stage filled with trial and error, but the progress is very much worth it. The steps after this will only continue to be more complex and challenging so this is just the beginning!!!

Why do we choose to 3D-print?

A major area of our research focuses on the potential of 3D-printed prosthetic devices to bridge the accessibility gap and provide affordable, personalized solutions for upper limb amputees.

Firstly, 3D printing technology offers a cost-effective solution compared to traditional prosthetic manufacturing methods. This affordability could democratize access to vital assistive devices, especially in developing countries and economically disadvantaged communities where cost has been a major barrier…

The UnLimbited Phoenix

This is a wrist-powered device. To use this design, the user must have a functional wrist and enough palm to push against the device to force the fingers closed when the wrist is bent.

Another hand design option that we may choose to work with is the UnLimited Phoenix. This is Team UnLimited’s improved and modified version of the e-NABLE Phoenix Hand, it includes a thermo gauntlet and reverse dovetail 3 pin tensioner system.

The Kinetic Hand

The Kinetic Hand is a body powered device, and is designed to be used by people with congenital hand differences, with a functioning wrist to open and close the fingers.

It has been developed for almost 3 years, this is one of the designs that we will be working with.
