……
It has come to an end — the most intensive workshop the Thai Film Foundation has ever organized.
Direct Cinema – Documentary Filmmaking Workshop
organized by Thai Film Foundation × Les Ateliers Varan
Over the past 10 weeks, our participants have learned, created, and lived through an intensive journey together — from exploring the ideas and processes behind documentary filmmaking, to filming on location and developing their own projects all the way to completion.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the partners who played an essential role in making this workshop possible:
Department of Cultural Promotion, Ministry of Culture, Thailand, Istituto Italiano di Cultura Bangkok, Rai Cinema, Thai Film Archive, and Embassy of France in Thailand.
We are also deeply grateful to everyone who generously supported us with equipment, venues, and other forms of assistance:
Creative Migration East Foundation, Ford Resource and Engagement Center (FREC) Bangkok, Na Café, Oraporn Laksanakorn, Suwan Waewployngam, and Natt Sumonpateemee.
Our sincere thanks to all the instructors from Les Ateliers Varan and Thailand, who shared not only their knowledge and skills in documentary filmmaking, but also their ways of thinking, perspectives, and care throughout the workshop:
Daniele INCALCATERRA, Mariana OTERO, Pascal DEUX, Emmanuelle BAUDE, Luc FORVEILLE, Lawan JIRASURADEJ, and Chalida UABUMRUNGJIT.
And a very special thank you to our wonderful interpreter, Nattasate JIASAMRAN, who was not only an essential bridge between the instructors and participants, but also became someone deeply loved by all of us throughout this journey. ❤️
And most importantly, thank you to all the participants — the students who never gave up despite the intensity of this 10-week journey. Through exhaustion, pressure, challenges, and countless moments of laughter, you kept going and brought your projects all the way to the finish line.
We hope that Direct Cinema – Documentary Filmmaking Workshop has offered more than just knowledge and skills in documentary filmmaking. We hope it has also created a space where people from different backgrounds could meet, work together, and gradually form meaningful and lasting connections.
What began with a group of strangers became a group of people who shared the most exhausting days, the most challenging moments, and some of the most memorable experiences together.
We hope that everything we shared throughout these 10 weeks will remain in the hearts and memories of everyone who took part for many years to come.
Thank you to everyone who shared this journey with us. ❤️
