The workshop on the project to further develop a model for enhancing UNESCO Creative Cities through the MICE industry served as a key platform for raising awareness, setting strategic directions, and gathering input from multiple stakeholders. The discussions and recommendations will be synthesized to support further studies and the development of a Model and Master Plan for systematically driving creative city development. By integrating the MICE industry with urban economic potential, cultural assets, creativity, and local identity, the initiative aims to generate added economic value, enhance the city’s image, and strengthen the competitiveness of Thailand’s creative cities at both national and international levels in a sustainable manner.

As a UNESCO Creative City of Design, Bangkok is reimagining its waterways not only as a drainage canal, but as spaces of culture, memory, and community.

The Samsen Canal Project reflects this vision. Once an active trade route linking royal, cultural, and civic institutions, the Samsen Canal is rich in layers of history and heritage. Today, the project aims to transform the canal into a commons for all, integrating heritage conservation, ecological restoration, and community-driven design.

By weaving together tradition and innovation, the revitalization of Samsen Canal shows how design can reconnect Bangkok with its water-based identity while creating inclusive and resilient public spaces for the future. 💧🌿🏙️
