🤝 IIE Bangkok and Thammasat University Explore Further Collaboration in International Education

On 16 September 2026, the Institute of International Education (IIE), Bangkok – Southeast Asia was delighted to meet with the leadership of Thammasat University at the university’s historic Tha Prachan Campus to exchange perspectives and explore opportunities for further collaboration in international education.

The IIE delegation was led by Dr. Jonathan Lembright, Regional Director for Southeast Asia, together with colleagues from IIE’s scholarship programs. The delegation was warmly welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Supreedee Rittironk, Vice Rector for International Affairs, and Dr. Usanee Patapsikij Lertrattananon, Assistant to the Rector for International Affairs.

During the meeting, IIE introduced the IIE Odyssey Scholarship Program, which supports talented refugee and displaced students affected by war, conflict, and political crises by expanding access to higher education and helping students develop the knowledge, skills, and professional networks needed for long-term academic and professional success.

IIE also shared information about the Ocean Futures Fellowship, an initiative established in partnership with OceanX to provide early-career professionals with mentorship, education, international exposure, and practical experience in fields connected to ocean science, technology, communication, and conservation.

For the 2026 cohort, the fellowship encompasses six focus areas: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Correspondent, Digital Asset Archives, Immersive Media, Marketing and Communications, and Partnerships—bringing together science, technology, education, and communication to help prepare emerging professionals to contribute to ocean exploration, conservation, and public engagement.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for IIE and Thammasat University to exchange information, strengthen institutional connections, and discuss potential areas for future collaboration.

💐 September 30, 2026: IIE Celebrates the Retirement of Ms. Asornsri Sompoom

On behalf of the Institute of International Education (IIE), we extend our heartfelt congratulations and warmest wishes to Ms. Asornsri Sompoom (Kru Moo), Director of the English Program at Khon Kaen Wittayayon School, on the occasion of her retirement.

For more than 10 years, Kru Moo has played an important role in supporting and promoting the TOEFL ITP® Program, an internationally recognized assessment of academic English proficiency, providing students with valuable opportunities to measure and strengthen their English skills through an international standard of assessment.

IIE sincerely appreciates her outstanding dedication, leadership, kindness, and invaluable contributions to English language education, as well as her longstanding support and partnership with the TOEFL ITP® Program throughout the years.

🏆🇺🇸🇹🇭 IIE Bangkok Honors MEE FAH with the 2026 Certificate of Recognition

The Institute of International Education (IIE), Bangkok Office is pleased to recognize MEE FAH Language Proficiency Testing Center, MEE FAH Language and Life Skills School, with the 2026 Certificate of Recognition for its outstanding contributions to TOEFL ITP® testing in Southern Thailand.

On September 24, 2026, Dr. Sinchai Lekwanitchakul, the Global Assessment Lead for the TOEFL ITP program, representing the Institute of International Education (IIE), visited MEE FAH to formally present the recognition in acknowledgement of the center’s leadership in advancing TOEFL ITP® Digital Testing and its excellence in the administration of TOEFL ITP® Paper-Based Testing.

During the visit, the MEE FAH management team and staff warmly welcomed the IIE representative and presented an overview of the center’s achievements, testing operations, and administration activities over the past year.

The recognition highlights MEE FAH’s continued commitment to quality, professionalism, and high standards in English-language assessment. 🌏🤝 IIE Bangkok Visits Didyasarin International College, Hatyai University, to Strengthen Collaboration in English Language Assessment

On Thursday, September 24, 2026, Dr. Sinchai Lekwanitchakul, Global Assessment Lead for the TOEFL ITP® Program at the Institute of International Education (IIE) – Southeast Asia Office, Bangkok, visited Didyasarin International College, Hatyai University, where he met with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pramarn Thepsongkroh, Dean of Didyasarin International College.

🌏 IIE Bangkok Strengthens Educational Collaboration with Prince of Songkla University

On September 23, 2026, representatives from the Institute of International Education (IIE) Bangkok Office, led by Dr. Sinchai Lekwanitchakul, Global Assessment Lead, and Mr. Chainarong Thongboonchuen, Scholarship Lead, visited the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Prince of Songkla University (PSU), Hat Yai Campus, to explore opportunities for further collaboration in education, professional development, and international learning.

The IIE delegation was warmly welcomed by Dr. Panida Suksrimuang, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts, together with the faculty’s executive team and representatives from the Language and Academic Outreach Center (LAOC).

During the meeting, both institutions discussed several potential areas of collaboration, including:

🎓 Odyssey Scholarship — expanding educational opportunities for refugees and displaced persons from Myanmar.

🌊 Ocean Futures Fellowship (OFF) — supporting future opportunities in oceanography, marine studies, research, and international networking.

🌟 IIE Bangkok Visits PSU.Wittayanusorn School in Hat Yai, Celebrating 11 Years of Partnership in Advancing English Proficiency through TOEFL ITP®

On Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the Institute of International Education (IIE) – Southeast Asia Office, Bangkok, represented by Dr. Sinchai Lekwanitchakul, ETS Global Assessment Lead for the TOEFL ITP® Program, visited PSU.Wittayanusorn School in Hat Yai to strengthen the long-standing collaboration in English-language assessment and student development.

During the visit, the school leadership, led by Mr. Suchat Sukhaphan, Director of PSU.Wittayanusorn School, warmly welcomed the IIE delegation and shared perspectives on the school’s continuing curriculum development and its commitment to preparing students with the knowledge, academic skills, and English proficiency needed for higher education and an increasingly international learning environment.

🏆 A highlight of the visit was the presentation of the “2026 Certificate of Recognition” to PSU.Wittayanusorn School in appreciation of its continued commitment to high-quality English-language assessment through the TOEFL ITP® Tests and to commemorate a partnership with IIE that is now entering its 11th year.

🌟 Academic English in Action | Empowering Educators for Confident Academic Communication

On 19–20 September 2026, the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Thammasat University, in collaboration with the Institute of International Education (IIE), organized the professional development workshop for teachers and education professionals entitled:

“Academic English in Action: Integrated Skills for Confident Communication in an Academic Setting”

The two-day workshop was held at the Faculty of Liberal Arts, Thammasat University, Tha Prachan Campus, Bangkok.

The opening ceremony was honored by Dr. Jonathan Lembright, IIE Regional Director for Southeast Asia, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suphawat Pookcharoen, Director of Academic Affairs, who warmly welcomed the participants and officially opened the workshop. Their remarks highlighted the importance of strengthening the professional capacity of teachers and education professionals, particularly in developing academic English skills and enhancing teaching and learning practices in response to the evolving demands of international education.

Throughout two full days of interactive learning, participants engaged in hands-on activities designed to develop integrated English-language skills across Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing, with a strong emphasis on practical techniques and strategies that can be effectively applied in both classroom and academic settings.

The workshop was led by Dr. Francis Chan, TOEFL ITP Specialist and ETS-certified Trainer for Southeast Asia, who shared his expertise, practical techniques, and extensive experience through engaging and highly participatory activities connected to authentic communication and academic contexts.

Participants explored a wide range of skills, including identifying main ideas and supporting details in listening, using English grammatical structures accurately, developing analytical reading skills, organizing ideas from academic texts, and improving pronunciation, stress, rhythm, and intonation. They also learned how to apply these techniques and activities to build greater confidence in communicating effectively in academic settings.

In addition, the TOEFL ITP® test was selectively incorporated as a practical case example to connect the development of listening, structure and written expression, and reading skills. This helped participants gain a clearer understanding of how English-language skill development can be effectively integrated with systematic language assessment.

One component that distinguishes the Ocean Futures Fellowship is that in addition to the Fellows’ everyday work, the program provides ongoing support through both cohort-wide and individual sessions. Through Fellows Connect—a monthly session facilitated by IIE—our fellows gather to explore leadership, exchange ideas, and build collaborative solutions to drive lasting impact in the ocean space. 🌊✨

This month, Fellows met to discuss Values Clarification, a pivotal skill all leaders should possess. By defining their core principles, our fellows are aligning their personal mission with their ocean conservation work to lead with intentionality, integrity, and purpose. 💙⚓
