WVA has published a Position Statement recognising veterinarians as essential health professionals.

✅ This matters because Veterinarians:

💬 This new WVA Position Statement was shaped with input from WOAH and WVA members worldwide.

📊 Fact: The International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO-08) already recognises veterinarians as healthcare professionals (code 2250).

The Philippine Veterinary Medical Association – Central Luzon Chapter successfully held its Scientific Conference and Annual Convention in Bulacan last January 9, 2026.

One of the highlights of the event was the talk of FAVA Treasurer Dr. Corazon P. Occidental, who emphasized the strong link between One Health and Antimicrobial Stewardship, underscoring the vital role veterinarians play in safeguarding public health.

“Antimicrobial stewardship is everyone’s responsibility—and that’s exactly what One Health is all about. It means using antibiotics appropriately, in the right way and at the right time, to fight resistance. When we do it well, we protect not only human health, but animal health and the environment as well. And we cannot do this alone—collaboration among veterinarians, physicians, farmers, and policymakers is what makes stewardship truly effective,” Dr. Occidental shared.

She concluded by reminding participants that every decision made in practice today shapes the country’s health security tomorrow—a call for veterinarians to lead, collaborate, and act now for a safer, more resilient Philippines.

From all of us at FAVA, we wish you all happiness and prosperity this 2026! 🎊🎉🥂Happy New Year! 🎆
