FAVA holds 3rd Free Rabies AsiaSpecial Committee (FRASC) meeting

The Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations (FAVA) held its 3rd Free Rabies Asia Special Committee (FRASC) Meeting at the Hotel Riviera in Seoul, Republic of Korea, bringing together FAVA-FRASC committee members, including representatives from the Philippine Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA), to discuss updates and next steps for the campaign, with FAVA President Dr. Ju Hyung Hur and Vice President Dr. Harris Constantino also in attendance.

PVMA advances One Health, AMR advocacy at Cavite State University

The Philippine Veterinary Medical Association (PVMA) brought its One Health and antimicrobial resistance awareness advocacy to Cavite State University (CavSU) through the seminar “One Health, One Mission, One Future” held on September 17, 2026, gathering veterinary students and members of the veterinary community to discuss the importance of safeguarding the health of humans, animals, and the environment.

The program featured Dr. Mary Elizabeth Miranda on One Health implementation and zoonoses prevention and control, Dr. Michelle Grace V. Paraso on the role of the veterinary community in AMR mitigation, Dr. Corazon P. Occidental on bridging government, industry, and academia for antimicrobial stewardship, and Dr. John Michael T. Figura on modern ethical dilemmas in veterinary practice, followed by an open forum led by Dr. Mervina Y. Luna.

The activity underscored the veterinary profession’s role in advancing One Health and responsible antimicrobial use, with the participation of PVMA Board of Director Dr. Marie Shella G. Ordinario, CavSU Dean Dr. Rezin C. Bahia, Program Host Dr. Adrian Miki C. Macalanda, Council on Biologics and Therapeutics Chairman Dr. Warlito S. Mingrajal, and Council members Dr. Mervin Y. Luna, Dr. Rowena L. Marquez, and Dr. Geoffrey Marl B. Carullo, alongside veterinary professionals and students.

The Federation of Asian Veterinary Associations - FAVA, in collaboration with the PVMA - Philippine Veterinary Medical Association and ILDEX Philippines, successfully brought veterinarians together for “Next Generation Poultry Practice: Precision, Prevention, and Performance.” The full-house session reflected the strong interest of veterinarians in keeping pace with developments shaping modern poultry practice.

The seminar featured Dr. Dennis Umali, Dr. Sherwin Camba, and Engr. Aris Salomon, who shared their expertise in molecular epidemiology, poultry production and medicine, and information technology solutions. FAVA Treasurer Dr. Corazon Occidental and FAVA Vice President Dr. Harris Constantino also delivered messages of support, while FAVA Congress 2027 Convention Chair Dr. Lina S. Policarpio, alongside PVMA Auditor Dr. Virginia M. Venturina, served as moderators for the session.

For FAVA, initiatives such as this demonstrate the importance of collaboration among veterinarians from FAVA member countries and partnerships with the private sector. By creating platforms for knowledge exchange and professional engagement, these collaborations help strengthen veterinary capacity, encourage innovation, and build stronger connections across the Asian veterinary community. Participants also earned three CPD points from the learning session.

FAVA extends its sincere appreciation to PVMA and ILDEX Philippines for organizing this successful event and providing a valuable platform for veterinarians to learn and connect.
