🌏 Advancing gender-transformative education in Southeast Asia

From 31 August to 2 September 2026, the ASEAN University Network on Gender Justice and Inclusion (AUN-GJI), in partnership with SEAMEO RIHED, organised “Designing Gender-Transformative Syllabi: A Learning Exchange Program” at the Faculty of Education, Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand.

The three-day programme brought together more than 60 university leaders, educators, researchers and curriculum practitioners to exchange knowledge and explore practical approaches to integrating gender justice and inclusion into higher education curricula.

The invited speakers shared perspectives from gender-transformative education, STEM education, the social sciences and gender studies. Through collaborative learning exchanges, participants mapped gender-related barriers in teaching and curricula, explored inclusive pedagogies and assessment approaches, and developed ideas for gender-transformative syllabi and institutional action.

The programme also featured the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between SEAMEO RIHED and the University of the Philippines through AUN-GJI, reaffirming their shared commitment to advancing gender justice, inclusion and regional cooperation in higher education.

SEAMEO RIHED extends its appreciation to AUN-GJI, the University of the Philippines, the resource persons and all participants for contributing their knowledge, experiences and commitment to this important regional learning exchange.

How can competencies become more visible beyond traditional degrees? This online seminar – hosted by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Bologna Hub Project and the ASEM Education Secretariat – explores how AI-driven skill mapping is reshaping the relationship between higher education and employability across Asia and Europe.

_Sponsored Training in China for ASEAN Lecturers 2026_

Lecturers, educators, trainers, and researchers from ASEAN educational institutions are invited to apply for a *sponsored professional development programme in Nanjing, China.

This 10-day programme aims to strengthen participants’ knowledge and teaching capabilities in cross-border e-commerce, digital business, international trade, entrepreneurship, marketing, logistics, TVET education, and related fields.

Bringing together 200+ higher education leaders, quality assurance practitioners, institutional focal persons, and regional experts, the three-day workshop moved beyond knowledge sharing to practical implementation. Participants worked collaboratively to contextualise the AUN-QA IQA Management Toolkit Version 1.3 by developing practical IQA action plans and implementation tools tailored to their institutional contexts. Together with the collaborative clusters established during the workshop, these outputs will continue to support peer learning, strengthen institutional quality cultures, promote evidence-informed decision making, and enhance institutional resilience across Philippine higher education.

⭐ 𝐀 𝐑𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐧𝐞
A key highlight of the workshop was the endorsement of the AUN-QA IQA Management Toolkit Version 1.3 by 𝐃𝐫. 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧̃𝐞𝐝𝐚 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐮𝐩𝐢𝐬, 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 (𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐃) during her Special Address. Partnering with sister centers, SEAMOLEC and SEAMEO RIHED, SEARCA will spearhead a 12-month project to develop and pilot-test the "Developing and Pilot Testing a Micro-Credential Curriculum on Regenerative and Resilient Agriculture for Southeast Asia" initiative.

Under this grant, SEARCA will manage the overall project, lead training needs assessments across the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand, and write the core curriculum. SEAMOLEC will then convert this technical content into self-paced online modules on its mobile-friendly learning management platform, while RIHED will guide quality assurance, national qualifications framework alignment, and credit transfer pathways.

The project will produce an open-access, competency-based course for agricultural educators, TVET trainers, extension workers, and early-career practitioners, comprising three self-paced modules covering the foundations of regenerative agriculture; regenerative farming practices and agroecological systems; and climate-adaptive farm planning and implementation.

The initiative supports SEARCA’s , reflecting the Center’s commitment to building more resilient, innovative, and inclusive agricultural systems that strengthen food and nutrition security across the region.

By combining regenerative agriculture, flexible learning, and regional collaboration, the micro-credential translates this commitment into accessible, practical training for educators and practitioners.
