Meet the “Books” of the SDG Story Exchange
The SDG Story Exchange at the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development invites you to hear from our lineup of inspiring human "books" 📚—leaders in their respective communities, sharing their stories, perspectives, and expertise through engaging conversations.
🎉 Representing the youth voice for SDGs 9 and 11, we are excited to feature Plaifah Kyoka Shodderland!
📢 Kyoka (they/them) is a Thai-Japanese non-binary LGBTQIAN+ rights activist, founder, and creative, recognized by TIME magazine as a TIME100 Next 2024 honoree. With a deep intersectional perspective, Kyoka’s work explores and bridges social issues, politics, creativity, culture, and storytelling through their current work as the founder and editor-in-chief of “QUEERING BANGKOK,” an independent q***r publishing company and print publication that was founded in 2025 and is dedicated to q***r culture, youth culture, underground scenes, and underrepresented and censored stories. In 2024, Kyoka became the youngest member of Thailand’s parliamentary ad hoc committee on marriage equality, representing the people’s draft and youth voices. They have also been active in LGBTQIAN+ campaigns and movements, including pride initiatives globally and legislative campaigns. Drawing on experience as a young q***r activist, Kyoka is currently working towards building the Asian Pride Alliance and remains committed to reimagining social movements, creating space for youth, and using storytelling as a tool to bridge, represent, and break barriers.
💬 Whether you're curious about q***r economic and civic participation, equitable communities, or the intersection of social movements and innovation, Kyoka has stories and insights to share. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect and learn at APFSD13’s SDG Story Exchange!
