Day Two: Shaping Education Finance in Nepal

The second day of the programme featured an important session on Gender Responsive Budgeting in Education, presented by Menuka Karkia, researcher at Kathmandu University, and a compelling discussion on Forwarding Gender Justice by Pabitra Raut from FES Nepal.

This gathering was attended by EIAP member unions from Nepal: ISTU, NTA, NNTA, and NSEC together with partner organisations FES Nepal, NCE Nepal, and ActionAid International Nepal.

Through collective dialogue and shared commitment, we continue to advance inclusive and equitable education financing. Collaboration remains the cornerstone of our pursuit of gender justice in education.

🌏✨ EIAP Meets Taiwan’s Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim ✨🌏

Nicole Calnan, Federal Secretary of the Australian Education Union (AEU) joined educators and union leaders from Japan, Mongolia, Taiwan and South Korea for two powerful gatherings:

1. Educators Stand for Climate Justice and Just Transition meeting, 21-22 April 2026
2. North Asia Network meeting 23 - 25 April 2026

In her solidarity address, Nicole brought warm greetings from the 200,000 members of the AEU, reaffirming that no matter where we teach, what language we speak, or what system we work in, we face common challenges: rising workloads, teacher shortages, underfunding, and the undervaluing of education work.

She reminded us that progress comes from organising, centre staging women, young educators, and LGBTQIA+ teachers, and building unions that are inclusive, resilient, and strong enough to defend public education for all.

💪🌱 These meetings are a powerful demonstration of international solidarity in action. When teachers organise, we win. When unions are inclusive, we grow. And when we act together across borders, we are unstoppable.
