A delegation comprising AEU, Union Aid Abroad - APHEDA Education International Asia Pacific met with The Hon. Pat Conroy MP, Minister for Pacific Island Affairs, and The Hon. Jason Clare MP, Minister for Education, at Parliament House in Canberra.

We discussed the critical teacher shortages across the Pacific, the impact of teacher migration and brain drain, and the urgent need for stronger regional cooperation and sustainable solutions.

A constructive conversation on supporting teachers, strengthening education systems and investing in quality public education across the Pacific. 🌏📚✊

🌏✊ Young educators are not waiting for tomorrow to lead, they're leading today.

To mark International Youth Day 2026 and this year's theme,"Different Contexts, Common Aspirations," Education International Asia-Pacific (EIAP) brought together young educators and union activists from across the region to share experiences, strengthen connections, and discuss the future of education unions.

Through the EIAP Youth Engagement Project, participants explored how unions can create meaningful opportunities for youth leadership, participation, mentoring, and networking. Inspiring contributions from Roselyn Mayble Timauku (SINTA), Louise Ryan (NZPPTA Te Wehengarua), Ruby Ana Bernardo (ACT Philippines), and Ryosuke Hikita (JTU) highlighted the importance of building strong youth structures and strengthening solidarity across borders.

Opening the meeting, Anand Singh, EIAP Regional Director, reminded participants that"Nothing about young people should be decided without young people." The discussions reaffirmed that young educators are essential to shaping stronger, more inclusive, and future-ready unions.

As we look ahead to the EIAP Youth Caucus and the 10th EIAP Regional Conference in Jakarta, the voices and ideas shared by young unionists will help shape the future of education unions across Asia-Pacific. 🚀🌏

We were pleased to welcome Talia Miranda, Country Engagement Lead – Southeast Asia at the Global Partnership for Education, to the Education International Asia-Pacific (EIAP) Regional Office in Bangkok.

During the visit, Anand Singh, EIAP Regional Director, shared updates on EIAP’s work across the region, including the Go Public! Fund Education Campaign and other key initiatives advancing quality public education and strengthening education unions.

The meeting provided a valuable opportunity to exchange views on regional education priorities, discuss the importance of ensuring teachers’ voices are heard in education policy, and explore potential areas for future collaboration.

We thank Talia for the visit and look forward to continued engagement in support of quality education for all.

🌏 Go Public! Fund Education | Samoa 🇼🇸

Education International Asia-Pacific (EIAP), through the Go Public! Fund Education campaign brought together union leaders and partners in Samoa to strengthen collective advocacy for quality public education across the Pacific.

The meeting was officially commenced with the inaugural address by the Honourable Prime Minister of Samoa, Hon. Laʻauli Leuatea Schmidt, with opening remarks from Anand Singh, EIAP Regional Director and Nanise Kamikamica, President, COPE Executive.

The meeting also brought together partners from UNESCO Samoa, ILO Pacific, and APHEDA Australia, with the participation of Honourable Aiono Alec Ekeroma, Minister of Education and Culture, Samoa.

Representatives from Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, and Vanuatu reviewed progress on national GPFE action plans, strengthened alignment with the UN High-Level Panel Recommendations on the Teaching Profession, and advanced shared regional strategies for more coordinated advocacy.

Together, this gathering reflects a growing regional momentum—grounded in solidarity and shared purpose to protect and strengthen public education as a fundamental right for every child and every community.

Together with Unifah Rosyidi, President of Persatuan Guru Republik Indonesia (PGRI), its leadership, and the EIAP team led by Regional Director Anand Singh, we had the honour of meeting Prof. Abdul Mu’ti, Indonesia’s Minister of Primary and Secondary Education 🇮🇩, to formally extend an invitation to the 10th Education International Asia-Pacific (EIAP) Regional Conference, to be held in Jakarta in October 2026 📍.

We deeply appreciate the warm and constructive engagement 🤝 and look forward to welcoming him to this important gathering of education union leaders from across the region.
