NTCC - Netherlands-Thai Chamber of Commerce

Connect at the core of the Dutch - Thai business community. The NTCC is a membership organization.

The Netherlands-Thai Chamber of Commerce (Bangkok) was established in 1991 by a group of Dutch businessmen. At the time, Dutch investments in Thailand were increasing rapidly and it was felt that a more formal representation of the Dutch private sector was necessary. The main objective of the Netherlands-Thai Chamber of Commerce (NTCC) was, and still is today, to provide information and services c

oncerning trade, commerce, industry, finance and investment in Thailand as well as in the Netherlands. To expand and facilitate trade between the two countries the NTCC represents Dutch business interests in relation to the government of Thailand, Thai opinion leaders and decision makers, to other Chambers of Commerce, and to the media in Thailand. The NTCC also promotes learning from each other, creating partnerships and building bridges between Dutch and Thai companies. It is fully self-funded with no financial support from government or any other Dutch or Thai external sources. At the moment almost all Dutch companies operating in Thailand are member. We currently have 260 members; a sharp increase over the past years demonstrates that the NTCC meets the needs of Dutch businesses in Thailand.

Today, the Netherlands-Thai Chamber of Commerce had the profound honor of attending the annual Commemoration Ceremony in Kanchanaburi.

Organized and facilitated each year by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, this solemn event brings us together to reflect on the immense sacrifices made during the construction of the Thailand-Burma Railway.

The morning began with a welcoming address by the Master of Ceremony, Ms. Hannah Pannwitz, First Secretary and Deputy Head of Political and Economic Affairs.

This was followed by a moving commemorative speech from Mr. Joost van Ettro, Chargé d'Affaires a.i., before we joined together to observe two minutes of silence.

Taking this time for silent remembrance is vital. It not only honors the thousands who never made it home but also serves as a powerful reminder of the cost of conflict and the enduring value of peace.

On behalf of the NTCC, we were deeply humbled to lay wreaths at two significant locations today.

First, we paid our respects at the Don Rak Allied War Cemetery.

Following this, we visited and laid a second wreath at the Chedi-Nadukal Memorial Pairing at Wat Yuan, officially named Wat Thaworn Wararam.

It is important to emphasize the profound historical weight of this second location. It is dedicated to the many Asian forced laborers whose immense suffering and sacrifice also form an essential part of the history of the railway, but are often overlooked.

Acknowledging these laborers is crucial to understanding the true and devastating scale of this history. Importantly, today's visit marks the first official inclusion of this memorial in the Netherlands's Commemorative programme.

We are incredibly grateful to the Dutch Embassy for organizing this important day. Thank you for ensuring that all victims, including both prisoners of war and civilian laborers, are properly recognized and honored.

We will remember them.
