Across the world, health workers like Dr. Xia Bouapao show up every day. From riding motorbikes to remote villages, explaining the importance of vaccines to parents, to doing whatever it takes to protect mothers and children.

For years, they did it all with paper booklets and manual registries. Now UNICEF, with support from the Government of Japan, has introduced a new electronic immunization registry in Lao PDR to ease their work and ensure no child is left behind.

"A good day is when I arrive and the children greet me with smiles."

For teacher Bertha in Pegunungan Arfak, West Papua, that good day starts early, with five-year-old Gracia already waiting at the door!

But for many children across the region, that consistency is far from guaranteed. Staffing shortages, weather disruptions, and a lack of trained teachers mean schools don't always open when children need them most.

UNICEF, together with the Government of Australia, is working to change that, by training teachers, building stronger classrooms, and giving every child the start they deserve.

Every child deserves to be vaccinated and protected.

In some of the hardest-to-reach places, getting a vaccine is not simple. In Papua New Guinea, families and health workers often face long distances, safety risks and stock shortages just to access immunization services.

With support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, and the Government of Japan, UNICEF is helping strengthen vaccine supply systems through digital tools. Health workers can track stock, place orders and ensure vaccines reach communities faster and more reliably.

Getting children vaccinated takes a chain of people – health workers, parents, communities and leaders.

When the Philippines faced a measles outbreak in 2024, midwife Tarhata Pangilan, parents like Sarah and many others, came together, to reach children with life-saving vaccines, supported by UNICEF and partners.

About 1.8 million children in East Asia and the Pacific are zero-dose children, which means, they have not received a single vaccine.

To reach every child with vaccination, strong systems are needed to identify gaps and respond in real time.

In Cambodia, digital tools are helping health workers track immunization, identify children who have missed vaccines and follow up in their communities. With UNICEF support, these systems are strengthening community health services and helping ensure more children, especially in remote areas, are protected.

At just 16, Lyankhua from Mongolia is already building solutions with technology.

Through UNICEF’s Girls Code programme, she and her team created Chemify, an interactive platform designed to help students learning chemistry elements through flashcards, quizzes and games.

With UNICEF support, girls are gaining the digital and ICT skills they need to innovate, solve problems and build the future of technology.

On this , we celebrate girls like Lyankhua and the power of digital skills to unlock their potential.

After Super Typhoon Uwan struck Catanduanes in the Philippines, many children were left struggling with fear and anxiety.

The storm damaged homes, disrupted schools and their daily routines, leaving many children struggling to regain a sense of safety long after the winds had passed.

With UNICEF support, psychological first aid and child-friendly spaces are helping children process their emotions and regain a sense of safety. These safe spaces give children the opportunity to play, talk and begin to recover from the trauma caused by the disaster.

When the earthquake struck, 8-year-old Thin Thant Thwal from Myanmar was trapped under rubble, badly fracturing her leg. Her home was destroyed, leaving her family struggling to afford care.

Carrying deep physical and emotional trauma, she stopped speaking and refused to eat.

With support from UNICEF and partners, her family received emergency cash assistance for treatment and transport. A simple pair of crutches, fitted just for her, helped her take her first steps again.

Today, she’s back on her feet, slowly healing and rebuilding her life. 💙
