Official page of APTN. In 2011, one transgender man insisted and drew attention to the need for inclusivity in the advocacy for transgender men.

Advocating for a society that upholds, respects, and protects the diversity, safety, equality, and dignity of trans and gender diverse people. The Asia and Pacific Transgender Network was launched in December 2009 when 15 transgender women from 10 Asia and Pacific countries and areas came together to champion the health, legal and social rights of transgender women. A milestone in the history of transgender people in the region, they demanded recognition to identify themselves as a distinct demographic group with their unique needs wishing to be separated from the MSM umbrella. He joined the APTN Board and all agreed with a new more inclusive mission statement:

The mission of APTN is to enable transgender women and men in the Asia and Pacific region to organise and advocate for the improvement their health, protection of their legal, social and human rights, and enhance their social wellbeing and quality of life. Trans Rights are Human Rights

The Malaysian Islamic Department has threatened legal action against a Malaysian trans woman after she participated in the Miss Equality World 2026 transgender pageant.

Political scientists have noted that Malaysian authorities are known to scapegoat q***r and transgender minorities, especially during times of elections.

We at APTN condemn the constant scapegoating of marginalised persons for political gain, and urge Malaysian authorities to stop contributing to the discrimination of q***r and transgender citizens.

We live in a world where coordinated anti-rights, anti-democracy, anti-gender, and authoritarian movements are thriving after years, sometimes decades, of coordination. The impact of this work is transcending the boundaries of any single issue, population, or movement. Yet, much philanthropic funding remains organized in thematic silos that reinforce fragmentation and leave little room for the collaboration needed to address shared root causes.

To combat this, the Equality Fund has opened applications for its CONNECT funding stream, supporting collaborations between feminist, women’s rights, gender-expansive, and allied social justice movements working together to advance gender equality and social justice.

The opportunity will provide approximately CAD $4 million per year to selected collaborations, with individual grants ranging from CAD $500,000 to CAD $1 million per year.

And the many other transpinays whose lives have been taken, whose stories have been silenced, and whose deaths deserve to be remembered.

The document we are about to launch is, in many ways, our love letter to them. It is our way of remembering, naming, documenting, and insisting that violence against trans women must be seen, understood, and addressed.

The Society of Trans Women of the Philippines (STRAP), in partnership with UP Department of Women and Development Studies (UP DWDS) and UP Center for Women’s and Gender Studies ( ), with support from the (ITF), invites you to TRANScript: Naming Transfemicide, Writing Justice Into Policy. 🏳️‍⚧️

This event will launch the first document 📄 in the Philippines which seeks to better understand and address transfemicide, accompanied by a multi-sectoral dialogue on transfemicide, justice, and policy change.

We invite transgender communities, women’s rights organizations, civil society groups, human rights advocates, researchers, development organizations, government institutions, students, and other interested stakeholders to join us.

Trigger Warning: Mentions of transfemicide, violence, and death.

Between June to August 2026, there have been at least four trans women killed in the Philippines, marking a dangerous trend of transfemicide in the country. We mourn everyone covered in this post, and extend our condolences to their families and loved ones.

Transphobia has no place in any society. Trans people deserve to live dignified lives without fear of being murdered simply because of who they are.

When menstruation doesn't only affect your physical body but your identity and mental health too, it becomes incredibly hard to function.

While some products are physically convenient, they can be emotionally difficult because it can trigger feelings of gender dysphoria.

It is important to figure out what strategies work for you, but prioritizing mental health and safety is vital.

In many parts of Asia and the Pacific, menstruation can be shrouded heavily in stigma, silence and fear, with practices that are not rooted in science or medical advice.

These discriminatory practices are harmful for all people who go through menstruation, and can be doubly so for trans and gender diverse people who go through it. Read on to learn more!
