Asia Pacific Transgender Network

Asia Pacific Transgender Network Official page of APTN. In 2011, one transgender man insisted and drew attention to the need for inclusivity in the advocacy for transgender men.

Advocating for a society that upholds, respects, and protects the diversity, safety, equality, and dignity of trans and gender diverse people. The Asia and Pacific Transgender Network was launched in December 2009 when 15 transgender women from 10 Asia and Pacific countries and areas came together to champion the health, legal and social rights of transgender women. A milestone in the history of t

ransgender people in the region, they demanded recognition to identify themselves as a distinct demographic group with their unique needs wishing to be separated from the MSM umbrella. He joined the APTN Board and all agreed with a new more inclusive mission statement:

The mission of APTN is to enable transgender women and men in the Asia and Pacific region to organise and advocate for the improvement their health, protection of their legal, social and human rights, and enhance their social wellbeing and quality of life. Trans Rights are Human Rights

We are extremely proud to introduce our delegates from Trans Advocacy Week 2026!!

Coming from different parts of the world, these trans activists will come together in the halls of the United Nations to advocate for trans and q***r rights, speak to diplomats, UN experts, and civil society organizations to share how anti-gender movements harm our communities, and how we can thrive outside of those influences.

Together, we strive to build an equal society for all! ✊

recently renamed their Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens to include Sexual Minorities; and we reached out to our fellow activists from Unity For Change to find out what their thoughts are like on the ground.

While they mention that this is an amazing first step; the effectiveness of this change will depend on how this government follows through with this commitment.

Sonali Khan, one of our fellows who have also participated in the UN’s Trans Advocacy Week, talked about her project, which includes organizing a workshop for mental health, and documentation requirements for Legal Gender Recognition.

Because of a recent government change, Sonali talks about how the entire project had to be changed, and how she was still determined to implement it because it wasn’t just a project - it is people’s lives and validity on the line.

When asked about advice, she encouraged fellow trans people to never give up; and that there are organizations all over that provide help and assistance for trans people to truly thrive.

Ten years ago, the world called it a "tipping point." Since then, trans advocates have influenced international law and won significant gains! 🌍✨

But progress isn’t linear. As reactionary groups and governments push back with anti-trans legislation, the fight for safety and dignity is more urgent than ever.

This Week, we celebrate the movements who have brought us this far as we continue pushing back against reactionary rollbacks.

Rojan, a participant in the Amplify Change Fellowship, talks about his project which included organizing awareness campaigns in schools, initiating policy dialogues with local governments, and holding a storytelling workshop with the LGBTQ community.

He talks about how his projects include the marginalized Dalit community. As a Dalit person himself, he stresses that it is important to talk about the oppressive nature of the caste system and the discrimination that comes with it.
