ตามที่ สมาคม ได้จัดการประชุมใหญ่สามัญประจำปี 2569 พร้อมกับการทำ networking กับนักเรียนเก่าแคนาดาครั้งใหญ่ (Maple Day)ในวันที่ 8 มีนาคม 2569 ที่ผ่านมา
นายกสมาคมได้เสนอความเป็นมาและการทำงานที่ผ่านมาของสมาคม แต่เนื่องจาก ยังมีสมาชิก ใน Line ของสมาคมที่ไม่ทราบเรื่องเพราะไม่ได้มาร่วมด้วย ผมจึงขอสรุปเป็นสาส์นจากนายกสมาคม เพื่อให้ท่านทั้งหลาย ได้รับทราบ ข้อมูลต่างๆ โดย ทั่วถึงกัน อีกครั้งหนึ่งดังต่อไปนี้
1. ประวิติความเป็นมา:
สมาคมนักเรียนเก่าแคนาดาเคยจัดตั้งแบบไม่เป็นทางการ คือไม่มีการจดทะเบียนตามกฎหมายในช่วงหนึ่งก่อนปี 2558 และก็หยุดดำเนินการไปจนปี 2558 เอกอัครราชทูต แคนาดาประจำประเทศไทย ในขณะนั้น คือนาย Phil Calvert ประสงค์ให้จัดตั้งสมาคมนักเรียนเก่าแคนาดาขึ้นใหม่อีกครั้งหนึ่ง
โดยเริ่มจากการปรึกษาหารือกับ ดร.ชิงชัย หาญเจนลักษณ์ ซึ่งเป็นผู้ที่มีอุปการะคุณต่อสถานทูตแคนาดามานาน เคยเป็น Vice President ของ องค์กร IDRC ของแคนาดา และปัจจุบันดำรงตำแหน่งรองประธานกรรมการ บริษัทล๊อกซเล่ย์ (ประเทศไทย) ทั้ง 2 ท่านเห็นพ้องต้องกันว่าการจัดตั้งสมาคมดังกล่าวสมควรให้นักเรียนเก่ารับทราบและยอมรับทั้งตัวสมาคมและกรรมการก่อตั้ง
ซึ่งทำให้เกิดการจัดงานสังสรรค์และเชิญชวนนักเรียนเก่าแคนาดาเข้าร่วมงานโดยสถานทูตแคนาดารับดำเนินการในส่วนนี้ และก่อนที่จะจัดงานดร.ชิงชัย มาหารือและขอให้ผม (ดร.พีรพล ไตรทศาวิทย์) ช่วยดำเนินการรับตำแหน่งเป็นนายกก่อตั้งของสมาคม และให้ดร.เดือนเด่น นิคมบริรักษ์ เป็นอุปนายก รวมทั้งขอให้ รองศาสตราจารย์ ดร.พาชิตชนัต ศิริพานิช และนางอุรัจลินทร์ ทัศนาญชลี เป็นหลักร่วมเป็นกรรมการก่อตั้ง ดังนั้นการประชุมสังสรรค์ที่จัดขึ้นนั้นจึงมีวาระสำคัญคือการเสนอชื่อและดำเนินการเลือกตั้งกรรมการตำแหน่งต่าง ๆ ดังกล่าว
อย่างไรก็ตามสถานภาพของสมาคมในขณะนั้นยังถือเป็นสมาคมเถื่อนที่ยังไม่ถูกต้องตามกฎหมาย และไม่มีทุนให้การดำเนินงานเลย ผมในฐานะนายกก่อตั้งดำเนินการโดยมี รศ.ดร. พาชิตชนัตเป็นผู้ช่วย ใช้เวลาประมาณ 7-8 เดือนจึงได้เป็นสมาคมที่ถูกต้องตามกฎหมายในวันที่ 21 มีนาคม 2559 มีรายได้จากงานโบว์ลิ่งเป็นทุนตั้งต้นและตั้งใจจะหาทุนเพียงครั้งเดียว
ในการหาทุนดังกล่าว ผู้สนับสนุนหลักคืออดีตผู้ใต้บังคับบัญชา ที่เป็นนักปกครองและองค์กรที่เกี่ยวข้องในอดีต บางส่วนมาจากกรรมการบางท่านที่ช่วยหามาประกอบด้วย จำนวนเงินที่ได้จากการจัดโบลลิ่งการกุศลในครั้งนั้นประมาณ 800,000 บาทซึ่งบางส่วนนำไปมอบให้มูลนิธิตามที่กำหนดไว้ในวัตถุประสงค์ของการจัดงาน ตลอดเวลาที่ผ่านมาสมาคมใช้เงินดังกล่าวสำหรับการทำงานอย่างประหยัดทำให้ยังมีเงินเหลือถึงปัจจุบัน
2. แนวคิดและกิจกรรม:
(1) การทำ profile ศิษย์เก่าแคนาดาในประเทศไทย
- การจัด networking 3 ครั้งที่โปโลคลับ มีผู้ร่วมครั้งละประมาณ 30 คน ทำให้สามารถรวบรวม Profile ของนักเรียนเก่าแคนาดาได้ประมาณ 100 คน
การจัด Networking ต้องงดไปหลายปีเนื่องจากปัญหาการแพร่ระบาดของโรคโควิด
- รวบรวมนักเรียนเก่าเปิดเป็นห้องไลน์กลุ่มเพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนข่าวสารต่าง ๆ เกี่ยวกับแคนาดาและนักเรียนเก่า
- การจัดงานสังสรรค์ Networking ควบคู่กับการจัดประชุมใหญ่สามัญประจำปี
(2) การให้ข้อมูลและคำปรึกษาด้านการเรียนต่อในแคนาดา
ในงานมหกรรมการศึกษาต่อต่างประเทศ (OCSC International Education Expo) จัดโดยสำนักงาน ก.พ. นั้น สมาคมเข้าร่วมออกบูธผ่านการประสานงานของสถานทูตแคนาดา ในการนี้สมาคมแจ้งไปในกลุ่มไลน์นักเรียนเก่า และได้รับความร่วมมือด้วยดีจากนักเรียนเก่าอาสาเข้าร่วมช่วยงาน ผลัดเปลี่ยนกันไปร่วมตอบคำถามและให้คำปรึกษาแนะนำเกี่ยวกับสถานศึกษา การเรียน การใช้ชีวิตในแคนาดา ฯลฯ โดยสถานทูตแคนาดาให้ความอนุเคราะห์เกี่ยวกับเอกสารต่าง ๆ และของที่ระลึก
(3) การแลกเปลี่ยนเรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับการประกอบอาชีพ
แผนในการดำเนินงาน คือให้ศิษย์เก่าที่เป็นรุ่นพี่สามารถให้คำปรึกษาแก่น้อง ๆ ที่เพิ่งจบกลับมา หรือแลกเปลี่ยนเรียนรู้กันเองในสาขาเดียวกันหรือใกล้เคียงกัน
เรื่องนี้ยังไม่เกิดเป็นรูปธรรมเพราะต้องพัฒนาระบบ Facebook หรือระบบการสื่อสารออนไลน์อื่น ๆ รวมทั้งการมีผู้ดูแลระบบ (Admin) ซึ่งกำลังเริ่มดำเนินการกันอยู่
(4) การจัดสอบแข่งขันคณิตศาสตร์ของแคนาดาร่วมกับสมาคมคณิตศาสตร์แคนาดา (Canadian Mathematical Society)
การจัดสอบนี้เริ่มครั้งแรกในปี 2563 เพื่อร่วมเฉลิมฉลองการครบรอบ 60 ปีของความสัมพันธ์ทางการทูตระหว่างไทยและแคนาดา แบ่งเป็นข้อสอบระดับมัธยมต้นและข้อสอบสำหรับมัธยมปลาย ในครั้งแรกนี้มีผู้สมัครเข้าสอบแข่งขันรวมประมาณ 400 คนเศษ
สมาคมเว้นการจัดสอบแข่งขันไปในปีที่โรคโควิดระบาดรุนแรง และกลับมาจัดเป็นครั้งที่ 2 ในปี 2565 ปรากฏว่าจำนวนผู้สมัครเพิ่มขึ้นเป็นเกือบ 600 คน หลังจากนั้นสมาคมยังจัดต่อเนื่องเป็นประจำทุกปีแม้ว่าจำนวนผู้สมัครจะลดลง อย่างไรก็ตามการจัดสอบนี้กลายเป็นกิจกรรมหลักของสมาคมที่ดำเนินการทุกปี ใช้เวลาปีละประมาณ 5-6 เดือน
ความสำเร็จของการดำเนินงานนี้มาจากความทุ่มเทและความสามารถของอดีตกรรมการสมาคมท่านหนึ่ง คือคุณวิภา
กนกากร นักเรียนเก่า ซึ่งสำเร็จการศึกษาจาก Concordia University, Quebec และดำรงตำแหน่งเป็นกรรมการฝ่ายต่างประเทศของสมาคมในขณะนั้น เป็นผู้รับผิดชอบการจัดการงานทั้งระบบและทำได้อย่างดีมากจนเป็นรูปแบบที่เรามาทำต่อกันมา ปัจจุบันสมาคมมอบให้ CanadIan Education CouncIl เป็นผู้ดำเนินการ
(5) การจัด Open House เพื่อเพิ่มช่องทางและโอกาสให้นักเรียนไทยมีแหล่งข้อมูลและผู้ให้คำแนะนำเกี่ยวกับการเรียนต่อแคนาดา
สมาคมมีแผนจะจัดกิจกรรมดังกล่าวขึ้นที่โรงเรียนมัธยมขนาดใหญ่ แห่งใดแห่งหนึ่ง ใน กทม. โดยมีนักเรียนเก่าแคนาดา ในสาขาต่าง ๆ ร่วมอาสาให้ข้อมูล และคำปรึกษา
กิจกรรมนี้ยังไม่สำเร็จ เป็นรูปธรรม
(6) การสัมมนาทางวิชาการ
กิจกรรมนี้เริ่มวางแผนตั้งแต่สมัยที่ดร.เดือนเด่น อดีตอุปนายกสมาคม ยังมีชีวิตอยู่ โดยสมาคมคาดว่าจะจัดการบรรยายทางวิชาการในประเด็นเกี่ยวกับนโยบายที่สำคัญ ที่ TDRI เคยศึกษาไว้
แต่เป็นที่น่าเสียใจที่ ดร.เดือนเด่นเสียชีวิตไปก่อน เรื่องนี้จึงยังชะลออยู่
ต่อมาสมาคมเปลี่ยนแผนเป็นการเชิญนักวิชาการของแคนาดาที่มีชื่อเสียงดีเด่นมาบรรยายทางวิชาการแทนโดยอาศัยความร่วมมือและความอนุเคราะห์จากสถานทูตแคนาดาในเรื่องค่าใช้จ่าย สำหรับผู้เชี่ยวชาญ
กิจกรรมนี้ยังไม่ได้ทำเพราะเกี่ยวข้องกับบุคคลและองค์กรอื่นในมิติต่าง ๆ หลายมิติ
3. วัตถุประสงค์ของการจัดงาน:
ในการประชุมกรรมการสมาคมเมื่อวันที่ 9 ตุลาคม 2568 กรรมการมีมติเป็นเอกฉันท์ให้จัดงานสังสรรค์เพื่อสร้างเครือข่ายความร่วมมือสำหรับการทำกิจกรรมต่าง ๆ ของสมาคมโดยมีแนวคิดเดียวกับการจัดงาน networking 3 รุ่น ใน 7-8 ปีที่ผ่านมา แต่ครั้งนี้ต้องการให้มีความชัดเจนในการจัดกลุ่มของสมาชิกเป็นโซนของมหาวิทยาลัย หรือกลุ่มตามธรรมชาติที่คบกันอยู่แล้วโดยมีนักเรียนเก่าที่เป็นผู้ประสานงานกลุ่มชัดเจนเพื่อประโยชน์ในการประสานงานเมื่อมีกิจกรรมสำคัญของสมาคมหรือเมื่อสถานทูตแคนาดาร้องขอความร่วมมือมา
นอกจากนี้ยังต้องการให้นักศึกษาเก่ากลุ่มต่าง ๆ เหล่านี้เตรียมการสรรหาบุคคลที่มีความพร้อมและมีจิตอาสาที่จะช่วยมาเป็นกรรมการสมาคมรุ่นต่อไปด้วย ทั้งนี้การเลือกตั้งกรรมการชุดถัดไปจะเกิดขึ้นในช่วงต้นปี 2570
สมาคมมั่นใจว่าการเตรียมการล่วงหน้าเช่นนี้จะช่วยให้มีการเสนอชื่อบุคคลที่เหมาะสมจากหลากหลายกลุ่มมาเป็นกรรมการที่เข้มแข็ง ช่วยกันทำงานคนละไม้คนละมือทำให้งานของสมาคมมีความหลากหลายประเภท สามารถดำเนินการให้ประสบความสำเร็จได้ด้วยดี ทำให้สมาคมยั่งยืนต่อไป
ผมขอถือโอกาสนี้ขอบคุณทุกท่านที่มีส่วนทำให้สมาคมดำเนินงานมาได้ถึงทุกวันนี้นับเป็นเวลาเกือบ 10 ปี (9 ปี 11 เดือน 13 วันนับจากวันที่ก่อตั้งเป็นสมาคมอย่างเป็นทางการ)
- ที่ปรึกษา (ดร.ชิงชัย หาญเจนลักษณ์) ให้การสนับสนุนทั้งด้านการเงินและคำปรึกษาแนะนำ
- คุณแทน สมบูรณ์ทรัพย์ และองค์กรที่เกี่ยวข้อง [Brain Cloud, Canadian Education Council (CEC), & Canadian International School, Thailand (CIST)] ให้การสนับสนุนทั้งด้านการเงินและบุคลากรในการดำเนินการจัดการสอบแข่งขัน คณิตศาสตร์
- เอกอัครราชทูตแคนาดาประจำประเทศไทยทุกคนที่ทำให้เกิดสมาคมนี้และให้การสนับสนุนในหลากหลายเรื่องที่สมาคมร้องขอ รวมทั้งการมาเป็นประธานการแจกรางวัลผลการสอบแข่งขันคณิตศาสตร์แคนาดาทุกครั้ง
- กรรมการสมาคมชุดปัจจุบันและทุกชุดที่ผ่านมา
- สมาชิกและนักเรียนเก่าที่เข้าร่วมกิจกรรมต่างๆ ที่ผ่านมา รวมทั้งงาน Maple Day ในครั้งนี้ เป็นผลทำให้งานนี้สำเร็จลงได้ด้วยดีและน่าภูมิใจ

Message from the President

Dear Members of the Canadian Alumni Association of Thailand,
Distinguished Canadian Alumni,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Following the 2026 Annual General Meeting of the Canadian Alumni Association of Thailand, held in conjunction with our major alumni networking gathering, Maple Day, on 8 March 2026, I had the opportunity to present an overview of the Association’s background, development, and work over the years.
As a number of members in our alumni LINE group were unable to attend, and may therefore not yet have had the benefit of this shared account, I wish to convey the following message so that all members may be equally informed and may move forward with a common understanding of our Association’s origins, purposes, activities, and future direction.
It is my hope that this communication will help strengthen mutual understanding among us and serve as a useful foundation for our continued collaboration in the years ahead.
1. Historical Background
The Canadian alumni community in Thailand existed for some time in an informal capacity prior to 2015, without legal registration, and subsequently became inactive. In 2015, the then Ambassador of Canada to Thailand, His Excellency Mr. Phil Calvert, expressed a clear wish to see the Association re-established in a proper and enduring form.
This initiative began through consultation with Dr. Chingchai Harnjensuksan, a long-standing friend and valued supporter of the Embassy of Canada in Thailand. Dr. Chingchai had previously served as Vice President of Canada’s International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and currently serves as Vice Chairman of Loxley (Thailand). Both gentlemen shared the view that the re-establishment of the Association should proceed in a manner that would be known to, accepted by, and representative of Canadian alumni themselves, including both the Association and its founding leadership.
This shared understanding led to the organization of an alumni gathering, with the Embassy of Canada taking the lead in outreach and invitations. Prior to that gathering, Dr. Chingchai met with me, Dr. Peerapol Traithosavit, and invited me to assume the role of Founding President of the Association. He likewise invited Dr. Duangdeun Nikomborirak to serve as Vice President, and requested Associate Professor Dr. Patchitchanat Siripanich and Mrs. Urajalin Tasananchalee to join as key founding committee members.
Accordingly, the gathering served not merely as a reunion, but also as an important occasion for the nomination and election of individuals to these founding positions.
At that time, however, the Association had not yet attained legal status and had no operating capital. In my capacity as Founding President, and with indispensable assistance from Associate Professor Dr. Patchitchanat, I devoted approximately seven to eight months to the registration process. These efforts culminated in the Association’s formal legal registration on 21 March 2016.
The Association’s initial operating funds were raised through a charity bowling event, conceived as a one-time fundraising initiative. The principal support for this effort came from former colleagues in public administration and related organizations, supplemented by contributions mobilized by certain committee members.
The event raised approximately THB 800,000, part of which was donated to charitable foundations in accordance with the stated objectives of the event. Through prudent and disciplined financial management over the years, the Association has been able to carry out its work economically, and a portion of those funds remains available to this day.
2. Vision and Activities of the Association
(1) Building a Canadian Alumni Profile in Thailand
One of the Association’s early priorities was to identify and connect Canadian alumni residing in Thailand. To this end, three networking gatherings were organized at the Polo Club, each attended by approximately 30 alumni. Through these efforts, the Association was able to compile profiles of approximately 100 Canadian alumni.
These networking activities were later suspended for several years owing to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In parallel, the Association established a LINE group to facilitate communication and the exchange of information relating both to Canada and to the alumni community. In subsequent years, alumni networking has also been integrated into the Association’s Annual General Meeting.
(2) Providing Information and Guidance on Education in Canada
The Association has also contributed to the provision of information and guidance for those interested in pursuing studies in Canada. At the OCSC International Education Expo, organized by Thailand’s Office of the Civil Service Commission, the Association has participated through a booth arranged in coordination with the Embassy of Canada.
On such occasions, alumni have been invited through the Association’s LINE group to volunteer their time and experience on a rotating basis. Their contributions have included answering questions and providing guidance on educational institutions, academic pathways, student life, and living in Canada more broadly. The Embassy of Canada has kindly supported these efforts by providing informational materials and commemorative items.
(3) Professional Exchange and Career Mentorship
Another important concept underlying the Association’s work has been the promotion of professional exchange among alumni. The intention has been to create opportunities for senior alumni to advise younger graduates returning from Canada, and for alumni working in similar or related fields to share knowledge, experience, and professional insights.
This initiative has not yet taken concrete institutional form, as it requires the development of an appropriate online platform — whether through Facebook or another digital channel — together with active administrative support. Preliminary steps in this direction have, however, already begun.
(4) Canadian Mathematics Competition in Cooperation with the Canadian Mathematical Society
One of the Association’s most significant recurring initiatives has been the organization of the Canadian Mathematics Competition, in cooperation with the Canadian Mathematical Society.
This activity was first launched in 2020 as part of the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Canada. The competition included separate examinations for lower secondary and upper secondary students, and in its inaugural year attracted more than 400 applicants.
The competition was suspended during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic and resumed in 2022, when participation rose to nearly 600 applicants.
Since then, the Association has continued to organize the competition annually, even though applicant numbers have since moderated. Nevertheless, this competition has become one of the Association’s principal annual undertakings, requiring approximately five to six months of preparation each year.
The success of this initiative owes a great deal to the dedication and capability of a former committee member, Ms. Wipa Kanokakorn, a Canadian alumna of Concordia University, Quebec, who at the time served as the Association’s Director of International Affairs. She assumed responsibility for the full organization of the competition and carried out that role with remarkable effectiveness, establishing an operational model that has guided our work ever since. At present, the Association has entrusted the implementation of this activity to the Canadian Education Council.
(5) Open House Initiative
The Association has also envisaged organizing an Open House at a major secondary school in Bangkok, with the aim of expanding access for Thai students to reliable information and practical advice regarding study opportunities in Canada.
