This month, Malaysia’s police have called for a complete ban on electronic ci******es and vaporisers after a new synthetic drug dubbed “Piu Piu” was detected in v**e liquids.

Malaysia’s Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, said: "The main issue today is not whether va**ng is a business opportunity for certain groups. The real concern is that these devices are being dangerously abused by mixing them with new drugs or new NPS."

With 8 out of 11 ASEAN countries already banning v**es, will Malaysia take decisive action and become the next country to ban?

The to***co industry continues to hide behind so-called corporate social responsibility (CSR) to normalize and promote its deadly products, especially as global restrictions on advertising, promotion, and sponsorships (TAPS) strengthen.

Governments must fully ban all forms of to***co advertising, promotion, and sponsorships—including CSR activities disguised as public good—and to strictly uphold and protect WHO FCTC Article 5.3 to prevent industry interference in public health policy.

Young people are not targets—they are agents of change. It’s time to break the cycle, challenge the tactics of the to***co industry, and prevent the next generation from becoming victims.

A study finds that adults exposed to secondhand smoke have about 1.5 times higher levels of cadmium, a toxic metal linked to cancer, in their blood compared with those in smoke-free environments. The findings reinforce that even passive exposure to to***co smoke contributes to the long-term accumulation of harmful toxins associated with cancer and other chronic diseases.

According to recent findings on Filipino students’ ni****ne use, va**ng has now become the most common form of ni****ne consumption among youth.

It signals that ni****ne initiation is already deeply entrenched among adolescents. Incremental regulation is no longer sufficient to protect young people.

This evidence strengthens the urgent need to ban v**es and other ni****ne products, while advancing bold policy action toward a full phase-out of ci******es to prevent lifelong addiction and safeguard the next generation.

171 children, teens, and young adults from Metro Manila, Cebu City, and Davao discussed their thoughts and experiences concerning e-cigarette marketing and packaging during a series of focus group discussions conducted by the Institute for Global To***co Control at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
