💧 Improving water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) through better access to clean water and sanitation initiatives that support healthier lives.
🏥 Supporting the health sector by strengthening health infrastructure, improving access to essential health services and helping communities benefit from more resilient and effective health systems.
🏘️ Improving communities’ access to basic infrastructure and services in targeted rural areas through inclusive, participatory planning and implementation.
🌊 Working with key conservation initiatives to protect at-risk marine life by providing critical infrastructure in remote areas.

Through these partnerships, UNOPS is helping turn investments into practical solutions that reach communities where they are needed most.

Today, UNOPS and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) signed a regional Letter of Understanding (LoU) to strengthen collaboration across Asia and the Pacific.

The agreement establishes a ready-to-use framework that enables FAO to access UNOPS expertise in infrastructure, procurement, project and grant management, and advisory services making it faster and easier to deliver development projects in more than 30 countries across the region.

By combining FAO's technical leadership with UNOPS implementation expertise, the partnership will help countries accelerate action on climate resilience, sustainable agriculture and food systems, natural resource management, rural development, and resilient infrastructure.

The LoU also strengthens collaboration on Global Environment Facility (GEF) projects, bringing together complementary strengths to turn development priorities into tangible results for people and communities across Asia and the Pacific.

Energy efficiency is not only about adopting new technologies — it is also about the everyday choices and behaviours that shape how we use energy.

In Indonesia, the Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation Awareness Raising in the Education Sector project is helping students, teachers and schools better understand energy use and the importance of conservation.

Supported by the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETP), managed by UNOPS, the initiative promotes practical energy-saving behaviours while strengthening energy efficiency awareness and capacity across the education sector.

By empowering young people with knowledge and encouraging sustainable habits, the project is helping advance Indonesia’s energy efficiency goals and contributing to a more resilient and sustainable future.

The impacts of the climate crisis are already being felt in Timor-Leste. Increasing hydro-meteorological hazards, including flash floods, landslides and prolonged droughts, continue to threaten communities, livelihoods and development gains.

Through a landmark Green Climate Fund project, and in partnership with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), UNOPS supported the procurement, installation and commissioning of advanced early warning systems equipment — including automatic and manual weather stations, Doppler radars and air quality monitoring systems — while providing critical human resource support.

The initiative will strengthen real-time hazard detection, monitoring and forecasting capabilities, helping protect an estimated 1.3 million people and enabling communities and authorities to better prepare for climate-related risks.

By investing in technology, knowledge and partnerships, we are helping build a safer and more resilient future for Timor-Leste.

As Southeast Asia’s energy demand continues to rise, the region needs energy systems that are cleaner, more resilient and ready for the future.

Launched from the 2019 Climate Action Summit, the Southeast Asia Energy Transition Partnership (ETP), managed by UNOPS, brings together governments, donors and philanthropies to accelerate the transition towards clean energy.

Over the past five years, ETP has:

✅ Mobilized more than US$61 million to support energy transition efforts
✅ Supported 91 projects focused on policy reform, coal phase-out and clean energy acceleration
✅ Advanced initiatives across Indonesia, the Philippines and Viet Nam, while strengthening regional cooperation across ASEAN

From a startup initiative to a trusted regional partner supporting the future of the ASEAN Power Grid, ETP continues to help shape a more sustainable, secure and resilient energy future for Southeast Asia.

As ETP launches its next five-year strategy, we look forward to building on this momentum and accelerating collective action towards a cleaner energy future.
