Reflect on the heart of the Jesuit mission to serve refugees.

During his visit to JRS Thailand on 27 July 2026, Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ, Superior General of the Society of Jesus, shared his vision and hope for refugees.

Although JRS was founded to accompany, serve, and advocate for refugees, Fr. Arturo shared that his greatest hope is that one day there will be no need for JRS. Such a day would mean that no one is forced to flee their home, and that every person can live in peace, safety, and dignity.

คุณรู้หรือไม่ว่าผู้ลี้ภัยในประเทศไทยไม่ได้อาศัยอยู่ในรูปแบบเดียวกัน?

ผู้ลี้ภัยบางส่วนอาศัยอยู่ในพื้นที่พักพิงชั่วคราวตามแนวชายแดนไทย–เมียนมา ขณะที่อีกจำนวนมากอาศัยอยู่ในเขตเมือง แม้จะมีสภาพความเป็นอยู่ที่แตกต่างกัน แต่ทุกคนต่างมีความหวังที่จะใช้ชีวิตอย่างปลอดภัย ดูแลครอบครัว และสร้างอนาคตของตนเอง

ผู้ลี้ภัยอาจเดินทางมาพร้อมกับความหวาดกลัวและความยากลำบาก แต่พวกเขายังนำมาซึ่งทักษะ ประสบการณ์ และศักยภาพที่รอโอกาส หากได้รับสิทธิในการทำงานอย่างถูกกฎหมาย ศักยภาพเหล่านั้นก็จะเปลี่ยนเป็นโอกาสในการพึ่งพาตนเอง ดูแลครอบครัว และมีส่วนร่วมในการขับเคลื่อนเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของประเทศไทย

ในช่วงที่ประเทศไทยกำลังเผชิญกับภาวะขาดแคลนแรงงานและได้ก้าวเข้าสู่สังคมผู้สูงอายุ การเปิดโอกาสให้ผู้ลี้ภัยเข้าถึงการทำงานอย่างถูกกฎหมายจึงไม่เพียงช่วยให้พวกเขาพึ่งพาตนเองและใช้ศักยภาพที่มีได้อย่างเต็มที่ แต่ยังช่วยตอบสนองความต้องการของตลาดแรงงาน และสนับสนุนการพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจของประเทศอีกด้วย

Did you know that refugees in Thailand live in different situations?

Some live in temporary shelters along the Thai–Myanmar border, while many others live in urban communities across the country. Although their circumstances differ, they share the same hope to live in safety, support their families, and rebuild their lives.

Refugees arrive carrying fear and hardship, but they also bring skills, experience, and untapped potential. With the right to work, that potential can become self-reliance enabling refugees to support themselves, contribute to Thailand's workforce, and strengthen local communities.

As Thailand faces labour shortages and an ageing population, expanding access to legal employment is not only a humane solution but also a practical one that benefits refugees, employers, and society as a whole.

สิทธิในการทำงานไม่ได้หมายถึงเพียงการมีงานทำ แต่ยังหมายถึงศักดิ์ศรี ความสามารถในการพึ่งพาตนเอง และโอกาสในการสร้างชีวิตใหม่

JRS Thailand ขอชื่นชมการตัดสินใจของรัฐบาลไทยที่เปิดโอกาสให้ผู้ลี้ภัยในพื้นที่พักพิงชั่วคราวตามแนวชายแดนไทย–เมียนมา สามารถทำงานได้อย่างถูกกฎหมาย

ในขณะที่ประเทศไทยได้ก้าวเข้าสู่สังคมผู้สูงอายุอย่างสมบูรณ์และกำลังเผชิญกับภาวะขาดแคลนแรงงาน การเปิดโอกาสให้ผู้ลี้ภัยทำงานอย่างถูกกฎหมายจึงเป็นประโยชน์ต่อทั้งผู้ลี้ภัยและประเทศไทย ช่วยให้ผู้ลี้ภัยพึ่งพาตนเองได้ พร้อมทั้งสนับสนุนตลาดแรงงานและเศรษฐกิจของประเทศ

The right to work is about more than employment, it is about dignity, self-reliance, and the opportunity to rebuild lives.

JRS Thailand welcomes the Royal Thai Government's decision to allow refugees living in temporary shelters along the Thai–Myanmar border to work legally.

As Thailand has entered a complete aged society and continues to face labour shortages, expanding access to legal employment benefits both refugees and Thailand. It enables refugees to rebuild their lives with dignity while helping address workforce needs and supporting local economies.

World Refugee Day is a time to honour the strength, resilience, and dignity of people who have been forced to flee their homes, and to recognise their hopes, talents, and contributions to society.

It is also a reminder that protection is not only about safety, but also about the opportunity to, to participate, and to build a future with dignity.

Join us in marking World Refugee Day 2026 as we reflect on the importance of identity, access to work, and social inclusion as pathways to protection, opportunity, and hope.

The event will bring together voices, stories, cultures, and communities through cultural performances, meaningful dialogue, a photo exhibition, creative activity booths, and community food booths.
