Songkran marks the Thai New Year, a time when people come together to celebrate, make merit, and share happiness.
💦Water splashing -> the most exciting part of the festival! People splash water on the streets to cool down and celebrate together.
🙏 Bathing the Buddha –> pouring scented water over Buddha images for good luck and a fresh start to the new year.
🏖️ Building sand pagodas –> bringing sand to temples and shaping it into small pagodas as a symbolic act of making merit.
👵 Respecting elders –> gently pouring scented water over elders’ hands to show gratitude and receive blessings.
🎉 Cultural parades & performances –> colorful parades, traditional dances, and the famous Nang Songkran celebrations.
🍛 Making merit at temples –> many families start the Thai New Year with prayers and offering food to monks.
✨ Songkran is a beautiful mix of fun, culture, tradition, and family time.

In the first semester of 2026, the BUCC conducted four online classes offering free English courses ranging from beginner to advanced levels for refugees in Bangkok and across Thailand.
