Brace: Burma Refugee Academic Charity Events In this way, money raised is spent in the most effective way possible. All expenses are paid out of pocket by those participating in BRACE projects.

BRACE is a non-profit group focused on fundraising for New Blood Academy boarding school and orphanage for Burmese refugee children in Mae Sot, Thailand, as well as other worthy education & poverty relief efforts in the region. BRACE is comprised of a small group of Thailand-based expats and a Thai attorney, all from different walks of life who have formed this cooperative venture to help those wh

o need it, while keeping things local and focused. We are concentrating on Burmese refugee kids, primarily the New Blood School in Mae Sot, which educates and cares for refugee children and youths, many of them orphans. The school is fully registered with the Thai Ministry of Education, but is currently seriously underfunded to the point that they have to turn children away. BRACE is also contributing to the Eyes to Burma charity (http://eyestoburma.org), working directly with its founder and director Fred Stockwell on our donation trips. Eyes to Burma helps out Burmese refugee families who live by scavenging at the Mae Sot dump, providing work tools, water tanks, food and basic medicines. Note that 100% of money donated through BRACE goes to purchase food, school supplies and other necessities for Burmese refugee kids. An accredited Thai attorney oversees the collection and distribution of funds; All donors are welcome to join us and witness first-hand how the money collected is spent.

New Blood Academy & orphanage for at-risk children in Mae Sot (on the Thai-Burma border) has had a particularly difficult time during the Covid-19 pandemic as visits from foreign sponsors has been impossible. Being based in Bangkok allowed us to personally deliver over 1-1/2 tons of rice, dried beans, dried fish, fish paste, chillies, fresh eggs, canned fish, fruit-filled biscuits, dried noodles, new knives and other cooking utensils, cloths and dish washing soap and sanitary napkins. A special thanks goes to Connie and Darwin D Fortaleché of Guild Gem Laboratory for their most generous contribution which helped make this trip possible.

Celebrating my 64th birthday, we were honored to have gemologists Sebastian Hänsel and Eddie Cleveland join us for a weekend visit to Mae Sot’s New Blood Academy, a Thai/Burma border boarding school & orphanage for over 400 at-risk children from Burma we have actively supported since 2006. Thanks to generous contributions from Sebastian, Eddie, Martial Curti and Theodore Rozet, we were able to deliver over 1 ton of rice, dried beans, dried fish, canned fish, garlic, onions, chillies, fruit-filled biscuits (the children’s favorite!), shampoo, clothes and cloths washing powder, 50 bottles of hand sanitizer gel to help prevent the spears of Covid-19 and other necessities so the school can continue their vital work during these difficult times.
