The wound may have entered your heart in a moment—
but it does not have to become a permanent resident.
When someone hurts us, the moment may pass quickly, but the pain can remain.
We replay what was said.
We remember what was taken.
We imagine what we should have done differently.
And without realizing it, another person’s actions begin occupying space inside us.
Forgiveness does not mean the wound was small.
It does not call evil good, remove necessary boundaries, or automatically restore trust.
It means refusing to let what someone did continue ruling your heart.
“Forgive anyone immediately…
Then the devil won’t have a chance to keep a shadow in your heart.” —Corrie ten Boom
Forgiveness may begin in a single decision and still require many returns to God when the pain rises again.
But each time, we place the offense back into His hands—
because justice belongs to Him,
healing comes from Him,
and our hearts were never meant to become prisons for yesterday’s pain.
You may not be able to change what happened.
But by God’s grace, what happened does not have to keep its shadow over you.
