Every Sunday at 08.00am a group of us meet at the 7/11 shop, on the Ring Road, 200 metres South of Wat Lamai (Lamai Temple). Circumstances permitting, we set off on one of the many treks over the hills, spending between 4 & 6 hours up in the beautiful hills, enjoying the fresh air, with no noise, no smoke and no dust (except for when the odd jeep rattles by). My friends and I simply do it for the
love of the hills and you would be more than welcome to come and join us for what I like to call “a free detox”. These walks are fairly tough, so they are not suitable for very young children or people with serious health problems. WHAT YOU NEED:
Good walking shoes or trainers (not new, not old and if you consider yourself susceptible to blisters – then Flipflops as backup). Minimum 600ml drinking water/ Gatorade (the amount of fluids required varies from person to person) plus:
600ml drinking water with electrolyte (available from any pharmacy). Hat, small towel & small backpack. Sunblock on exposed skin. Mosquito repellant or Tiger Balm on legs. First aid kit (including mosquito bite cream).
300/400 baht for Songthaew & drinks. Fully charged phone with credit. Waterproof bag or container for phone & camera. Lightweight Plastic Rainjacket (available cheaply at all 7/11 and Family Marts)

Some of the photographs I hope will make you realize how nice it is up there, away from the beaches and bars. Do not let the “Cobra release” photos deter you, most of the wild animals we see are not interested in us, they simply consider us to be trespassers in “their” territory & then they move away. All we do is give them space, admire them & sometimes take a photo, if we are fast enough?
