During high season, we offer tours every day apart from Sundays when we are closed, so our rescue animals can have a rest. For the rainy season, times may vary. Spaces on the tour are limited, so please book ahead and secure your space:

We ask for a small entrance fee of 300 baht for adults, and 200 baht for children. Lanta Animal Welfare is a non-profit charity, based on Koh Lanta. LAW's objective is to reduce the suffering of stray injured, abused and sick animals in Thailand through sterilisation and care. LAW also provides mobile clinics and education support to the wider community. Clinic consultations: 10am - 12pm and 2 - 4pm. Closed Sundays

Some dogs make you feel like an old friend within seconds. Frida is one of them.

The second she reaches you, her tail is already going. No hesitation, no sizing you up. She greets you like you're the person she's been waiting for all day, and it is hard not to feel a little chosen by that. You will find yourself smiling before you've even said hello back.

Frida is small, smaller than most of the dogs here, but she takes up a lot of room in a good way. She's the kind of dog who makes a quiet afternoon feel like something happened.

She came to us from the streets, and she fought through treatment for a serious illness while she was here. She is healthy now, and every bit of her warmth today is proof of how far she has come.

Frida is looking for people who want a dog fully present in their life, someone always glad to see you, always close by. If you want a companion who makes ordinary moments feel a little brighter, she is ready for that.

She will make you feel like the safest person in the room. 🐾

Dash is gentle and thoughtful, and she does not throw her trust around. So when she chooses you, it means something. You will see it in the way she checks in with you, follows your lead, and settles a little more each day.

When Dash first started beach walks on Koh Lanta, the traffic terrified her. Now she crosses the road with her ears up and her tail going. She is not there yet, but she is close, and watching her get there is the reward.

Dash came to us from Krabi mainland as a puppy, one of many dogs pulled from a place with barely enough food to go around. She would not have lasted long without that rescue.

Now she is safe, and ready for a home with calm, patient people who want a sweet companion and the quiet joy of watching a shy dog become their shadow.

Give Conwy a minute, and she will decide you are worth the risk.

She holds back at first. New faces make her cautious, and she likes to watch before she joins in. But watch closely and you will catch her sneaking in anyway. A paw closer, a nose against your hand, and then suddenly she is right there in the middle of the cuddles like she was never anywhere else.

That is the payoff with Conwy. You do not get her trust for free. You earn it, one beach walk and one gentle game at a time, and when it clicks, it means something.

She is at her best with other dogs. Running, chasing, wrestling in the sand, Conwy comes alive around a playmate her own speed, and having one at home would help her settle faster and feel safe sooner.

Conwy came to us from an overcrowded mainland shelter as a puppy, pulled out with barely any food or shelter to speak of. She would not have made it much longer without that rescue. Now she is safe, and slowly turning into the dog she was always going to be.

She needs patient people who will not take her caution personally, and another friendly dog to show her the ropes. Give her that, and you get a dog who chooses you fully, mischief and all.

This is Bucky, and right now, he's suffering.

He arrived at our clinic yesterday after a long time in pain. A wound behind his ear so infected our vets removed dozens of maggots while he was under anaesthetic. Most of his fur gone to parasites. Dangerously thin from a blood parasite attacking him from the inside. And a limp we can't yet explain.

His treatment has already started, but he's not out of danger, and his recovery will be long.

Here's what makes it worse: after everything done to him, Bucky still trusts people. He still leans toward the hands trying to help him. A dog with every reason to give up, who hasn't.

He can't do this alone. You can be the reason he makes it.

Volunteering here isn't glamorous. It's muddy kennels, long dog walks, and a cat room full of animals who just want company. But ask anyone who's done it: they leave with more than they gave.

Come spend your days with dogs who need walking and cats who need cuddles. You'll be part of the reason they get a second chance.

We almost didn't find Raven at all.

Raven was deep in the jungle, tucked into thick brush, when our team reached them. It took a net to bring them out safely. Frightened, in pain, and trying to disappear from the world.

The wound covered the right side of their face, around their eye. Attacked by other dogs while searching for food, and no one coming to help. On their own, Raven wouldn't have lasted much longer.

Our medical team began treatment straight away. It wasn't quick, and it wasn't easy. But Raven held still and let us help — and one thing became clear almost at once. Underneath all that fear was a gentle, trusting dog.

As the wound closed, their real character came out. Following carers around with their tail going. Greeting everyone like an old friend. The deep wound healed into a clean pink scar.

Then came the part we always hope for. Raven found a family — right here on Koh Lanta. Settled into a home, getting the head scratches and quiet afternoons that should have always been theirs.

Raven's story is told. But we have dogs still waiting for theirs.

Left in a box outside our gate.
