Last but not least for tonight an update on Tommy 🩵

Our boy is such an incredible fighter. It is almost a miracle that he is still here with us. ❤️

But he is absolutely not out of danger. He could still suddenly collapse at any time. Right now, he won’t eat on his own, although he is still drinking some water, just not enough.

So we are doing everything we can for him. He is on a drip three times a day, and I syringe feed him puppy milk and homemade chicken soup. He is receiving two different antibiotics to fight the suspected Babesia, together with hepato/liver support and daily vitamin injections.

His breathing and heart rate are still within the normal range, which is encouraging. But he is incredibly weak and currently too weak to stand up on his own.

I am praying with everything I have that this little fighter will pull through. 🙏❤️

With the medication, the veterinary care… and perhaps most importantly, with lots and lots of TLC. 🐾❤️

💗 LYCHEE HAD A VET VISIT TOO TODAY

Our sanctuary girl Lychee hasn’t been quite herself for the last few days, and our volunteer also noticed that she had developed very bad breath. Because bad breath can sometimes be associated with kidney problems, I didn’t want to take any chances and rushed her to the vet.

The good news is that her kidney and liver values are currently normal, so we can breathe a little easier. ❤️

Her blood test did show very low platelets, and her SNAP test showed a very faint positive for Ehrlichia canis (a tick-borne disease). It was barely visible, but together with her platelet count, the vet wants to treat it seriously.

Lychee will therefore be on doxycycline for the next few weeks, while we monitor her closely.

And then there is that terrible breath… 🦷😳
The vet will examine her teeth properly and deal with the bad tooth once it is safe to do so.

For now, our sweet girl is home, being watched closely and getting lots of love. ❤️🐾

💔 Not only Rang’s blood results are worrying…

Rang’s skin has become severely crusty, inflamed and infected-looking, with hair loss all over his face, ears, legs and body.

Today’s blood test shows significant anemia and a very high white blood cell count of almost 34,000, meaning his body is fighting a major inflammatory or infectious process.

His kidney and liver values are thankfully still normal, and his platelets are okay.

The SNAP 4Dx test was negative, but this does NOT rule out Babesia or other tick-borne diseases.

We now need to investigate whether this is severe mange with a secondary infection, a tick-borne disease, or possibly both.

Poor Rang has a long road ahead. 💔
But we’re not giving up on him. ❤️🐾

💔 FAREWELL RALF “LAURI” 💔

There are moments when words simply are not enough, and this is one of them.

Early this morning, our dear friend Ralf, whom most of us knew as Lauri, passed away following a tragic road accident. Heartbreakingly, it happened on the very day he should celebrate his 62nd birthday.

I am devastated. I am shocked. And I still cannot believe that you are truly gone.

Lauri and I had known each other since he moved from Germany to Koh Chang. For more than five years, he worked alongside me at Happy Dogs Koh Chang, caring for our rescues and becoming an important part of our little family. He wasn’t simply a co-worker, he was also a dear friend, someone with a warm soul and a huge heart for animals.

Many years ago, he adopted our rescue girl Regis and gave her a life filled with love. The thought that she has now outlived the man who opened his heart and home to her is almost unbearable 🥺.

Today should have been filled with birthday wishes, laughter and celebration. Instead, we are trying to understand how someone so familiar can suddenly be gone forever.

Thank you, Lauri, for all the years we shared. Thank you for your friendship, your kindness and every moment of love you gave to Regis and all our Happy Dogs.

You left this world far too suddenly and far too soon, but the love you gave will remain in every heart and every paw print you touched.

A peaceful, heavenly birthday, dear Ralf.
Rest peacefully, my friend.
You will be deeply missed by so many, and never forgotten. 🕯️🐾💔

🩵😢 TOMMY:

I am so worried… 😞 Tommy seemed to be on the way to recovery… more energy, a good appetite and all. But last night, he suddenly started going downhill. He also refused everything I offered.

Thankfully, he still took his meds without a problem. This morning he was even more lethargic and again had no appetite. I decided against drawing blood. I don’t want to put him through the stress when we already know he’s not doing well, and another blood test wouldn’t change anything right now.

Then I noticed it… a light yellow shadow in the whites of his eyes, his inner ears and gums. Yep… sadly, jaundice has now joined his enormous list of health problems. 💔

He’s now also on Livo B to support his liver and I’m syringe-feeding him small amounts of home made doggy chicken soup.

I’m not leaving his side tonight. The 6 healing doggies will have to manage on their own until morning, I can’t split myself into 2… yep it’s low/ rainy season.. and as usual there simply aren’t enough volunteers. 😞

Once we’ve moved to HAPPY DOGS VILLE, things should hopefully become much easier, having everything in one place, and even with just 2 people looking after the dogs. 🙏🏽

🐶🚨 URGENT: LAST-MINUTE VOLUNTEER/S NEEDED! 🚨🐶

A booked in volunteer didn’t show up, unfortunately, so we urgently need dog lovers, either a solo traveller, a couple, or two close friends, to help care for just nine, out of all our adorable rescue dogs 🐾.

Free ensuite double bedroom, free drinking water and a free (shared) scooter included for 4-5 h a day, 5 days a week 🫶🐕

If you could start immediately or within the next few days, that would be amazing.

Those👇🏿nine wagging tails can’t wait to meet you! 🫶🥰

‼️ MISSING DOG ‼️

This beautiful boy has no home of his own, but lives as part of a fairly large pack of lovely young dogs between Bang Bao and Klong Koi.

The entire pack is lovingly cared for by two feeders and a foreigner who lives in the jungle and allows the dogs to stay safely on his property. ❤️

Sadly, this handsome boy has now disappeared and has not been seen for 4 days. 😔

If anyone has seen him or knows anything about his whereabouts, especially in the Bang Bao–Klong Koi area, please contact us.

🙏 Any information could help us bring him safely home.

Tommy is still alive and somewhat kicking, despite the devastating CBC results. He’s still extremely tired, but thankfully there are no breathing issues yet. He’s eating like a horse and drinking on his own, which I’m taking as a good sign. He’s on his medications, and last night I gave him half of the Imizol injection, as agreed with our vet.

If all goes well and he makes it through today and tonight, I’ll draw blood again tomorrow and have it analyzed afterwards. I’m desperately praying that his red blood cell and platelet counts will improve. 🙏🏽💔
