SEAOHUN, established in late 2011, is a leading regional network of universities collaborating to strengthen One Health workforce capacity and build the next generation of One Health professionals with the right skillset and mindset to prevent, detect, and respond to infectious disease threats. This includes equipping health professionals with critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and s

ystems approach to problem solving that considers all aspects of the human-animal-ecosystem interface. In 2022, SEAOHUN comprised over 100 universities in 8 Southeast Asian countries – Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam, and 6 universities in Taiwan as an associate member country. SEAOHUN is governed by its Executive Board comprising members from member countries and key partners. SEAOHUN Secretariat, based in Chiang Mai, Thailand, is a coordinating body of all the country university networks. The Secretariat manages subawards with the country networks, facilitates SEAOHUN Executive Board meetings and regional activities, strengthens One Health university networks in Southeast Asia through capacity building activities, and partners with national, international, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector to build the next generation of One Health leaders. In addition, the Secretariat represents interests of its country networks at regional and global meetings/conferences/forums. SEAOHUN advocates for the role of universities to build the capacity of professionals across sectors to solve complex One Health issues, conduct research for evidence-based decision making, and support governments with public health surge capacity.

🇮🇳 Meet our winning team from India!

📌 In rural Velur, Kerala, most households and small livestock farms use open wells as their main source of drinking water. These wells can be contaminated by animal waste, agricultural runoff, and household pollutants — putting both people and animals at risk of serious waterborne diseases.

Many families do not know the water they drink every day may not be safe.

This student team from Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU), covering veterinary public health, nursing, and environmental forestry will test the water, map the risks, and work directly with 60 community members — prioritising women, farmers from marginalised communities, and lower-income households — to improve water safety practices.

🇧🇩 Meet our winning team from Bangladesh!

📌 In Rahamatpur and Madhabpasha, Barishal, families face overlapping health threats — disease from dog bites and backyard poultry, overuse of antibiotics, and water contamination from saltwater intrusion. These problems are connected — and they need to be tackled together.

Health education often does not reach the people who need it most, in a language and format they can actually use.

Students from PSTU, Sher-E-Bangla Medical College, and the University of Rajshahi are training community members as One Health Village Leaders — local people who run interactive "Uthan Boithok" courtyard sessions right in their own neighbourhoods, using games, hands-on demos, and a printed toolkit every participant keeps.

📌Project Supervisor: Dr. Farzana Islam Rume, Professor of Department of Microbiology and Public Health, Faculty of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine at PSTU

🌍 World Environment Day 2026

Our environment is the foundation of health.

From clean air and water to thriving ecosystems and biodiversity, the health of our planet is deeply connected to the health of people and animals. Through the One Health approach, we recognize that environmental protection is not only about conserving nature—it is about safeguarding our shared future.

At SEAOHUN, we believe that building a healthier and more resilient Southeast Asia starts with understanding these connections and empowering the next generation of One Health leaders to take action.

🏆 THE WAIT IS OVER — MEET YOUR 2026 WINNERS! 🏆

SEAOHUN is THRILLED to announce the nine winning teams of the SEAOHUN 2026 Regional Student Competition: One Health Campus-to-Community (OH-C2C) Challenge! — a region-wide initiative empowering university students to lead community-based projects at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health.

In collaboration with member universities across Southeast Asia and associate countries India and Bangladesh, and made possible through the funding support of Chevron and in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the OH-C2C Challenge invited student teams to propose innovative, community-driven One Health solutions. Nine exceptional teams rose to the top — and we couldn't be prouder!

And to every student who entered — THANK YOU. 💙 A grant may not have come through this time, but your ideas, your drive, and your commitment to One Health are what this movement is made of. Keep going — the region needs you.

👉 Congrats to the winning teams: https://www.seaohun.org/student-engagement

🌏 One Health is not just a concept — it is a movement. And in India, that movement is expanding!.

SEAOHUN is thrilled to announce our collaboration on the India One Health School Program (IOHSP) 2026! 🇮🇳

Together with the One Health Network of India (OHNI) and the Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPHG), and with the generous support of Chevron, SEAOHUN is thrived to co-organise this fully funded, five-day on-campus learning experience — designed to turn One Health principles into real-world action.

Last year's program proved what's possible when you invest in the right people:

🏆 51 students trained as One Health Ambassadors
🌱 2,500+ peers reached across India

This year, 30 nominated students will come together for an immersive program:

What participants can expect:
→ Hands-on learning in One Health implementation
→ Interaction with One Health experts and mentors
→ Field visits and practical exposure
→ Certification as a One Health Ambassador
→ Networking with peers from public health, veterinary science, environmental and social sciences

The program is open to students passionate about public health, animal health, environmental sustainability, and community engagement — the very people who will lead India's One Health future.

📣 We invite institutions across India to nominate enthusiastic students who are ready to learn, collaborate, and contribute toward healthier communities and ecosystems.
