The Business Dialogue "Russia-Thailand: New Dimensions for Trade and Investment" was held at SPIEF 2026.
The business dialogue "Russia-Thailand: New Dimensions for Trade and Investment," organized by the Russian-Thai Business Council (RTBC), was held on June 4 as part of the 29th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The event focused on the active development of relations between Russia and Thailand, as well as prospects for mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation. The business dialogue was moderated by Ivan Demchenko, Chairman of the Russian-Thai Business Council.

The business dialogue participants focused on the bilateral cooperation indicators, which have been at record levels in recent years. Thus, Russian direct investment in Thailand's economy has more than doubled since 2018, reaching $1.2 billion. Bilateral trade turnover reached $1.7 billion last year (an 11% increase). In his speech, Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov called Thailand one of Russia's key partners in the Asia-Pacific region. According to him, our country is currently actively exporting steel products, aluminum, ferroalloys, as well as copper ores and concentrates to Thailand. Russia is soon ready to supply Thailand with competitively priced low-carbon energy resources, as well as oil and gas equipment and technological products.
"Russia and Thailand have nearly 130 years of diplomatic relations—a strong foundation of friendship and trust. I would especially like to note Thailand's accession to BRICS as a partner country—this, of course, creates a completely new framework and opportunities for cooperation. For our business, Thailand is not only a dynamically developing market but also a predictable jurisdiction with clear rules of the game. Thailand has a developed infrastructure and growing demand for food, energy, and technology. Russia is ready to expand cooperation—we have everything necessary for this: the stability of our economy, ongoing structural changes, and major development projects in all sectors,” emphasized Maxim Reshetnikov.
Maxim Reshetnikov also noted that Russian-Thai cooperation in the medical field can be considered promising. The main objective for implementing joint projects is to reduce bureaucratic barriers to drug registration. Furthermore, Russian private clinics are ready to launch joint programs to develop medical tourism with Thai medical institutions.
This new tourist destination is sure to prove popular among Russians, according to statistics from the Tourism Authority of Thailand. In 2025, 1.9 million tourists from Russia visited the country—an all-time high. Thailand's extensive experience in the hospitality industry could prove very useful for our country, according to Alexey Chekunkov, Russian Minister for the Development of the Far East and Arctic and co-chair of the Russian-Thai Commission on Bilateral Cooperation.
"We are very interested in Thailand's experience in the hospitality industry. We believe that the Far East and the Arctic are just beginning to tap into this gold mine—the export of experiences. What kind of experiences can people gain from our absolutely stunning natural beauty? But to properly develop a tourism product, experience is needed. Hotel management is a highly complex business. We are currently implementing 434 investment projects in the Far East and the Arctic, with a total investment of 400 billion rubles, and 7 million tourists visited us by 2025. Of these, 200,000 were foreigners. We invite both tourists and businessmen from Thailand to the Far East and the Arctic,” noted Alexey Chekunkov.
Veronika Nikishina, CEO of the Russian Export Center, also noted that economic relations between Russia and Thailand are developing rapidly. She added that she sees great potential in cooperation aimed at creating a comprehensive infrastructure to support trade between our countries.
"We are currently establishing a permanent pavilion of Russian products so that distributors, upon seeing product samples there, can conclude export contracts. Russian export products are represented there, but they must be of interest to businesses. We invite major distributors from Thailand to seek out niches where they can profit from Russian exports and offer our products to their future partners in the Thai market." "We also want to open a chain of retail stores selling Russian products," explained Veronika Nikishina, CEO of Russian Export Center JSC.
Wisan Wanasaksrisakul, head of the Thai-Russian Business Council Committee and CEO of Warrix, shared his expectations for cooperation with Russia. Warrix is a major Thai clothing manufacturer specializing in high-tech equipment for team and individual sports, as well as lifestyle collections for active recreation. This year, the brand is entering the Russian market.
"I see a number of goals that I would like to achieve together with the Russian side. I believe this will be possible with the support of our political leaders. "When we talk about expansion, it's not enough to simply hold events—we need to establish cooperation that will serve as a foundation for us. We need to leverage economic assets to strengthen our partnership," admitted Wisan Wanasaksrisakul, head of the Thai-Russian Business Council committee and CEO of Warrix.
An important part of the business dialogue was the presentation of the architecture of the 2nd Russian-Thai Investment Forum. This year's business event will be held in Bangkok from October 29 to 30. Vladimir Kovalev, Executive Director of the Russian-Thai Business Council, announced the official opening of registration for the event.
"The 2nd Russian-Thai Investment Forum will be a continuation of the first forum, which was held in Phuket last year. This is the largest business event for establishing long-term business ties between Russian and Thai companies. For example, the investment potential of the projects outlined at last year's forum exceeded $3 billion. "We see Russian investors actively entering the Thai market. We are also seeing positive developments on the Thai side—Thai companies are interested not only in trade but also in investment cooperation with our country," emphasized Vladimir Kovalev, Executive Director of the Russian-Thai Business Council.
The 2nd Russian-Thai Investment Forum will open with a plenary session, "Russia-Thailand: A New Era of Economic Partnership." The first day of the forum will be themed "Drivers of Basic Industries": metallurgy, agriculture and food security, sustainable energy, certification and standardization. The second day will focus on "Drivers of the New Economy": medicine, pharmaceuticals and wellness, the platform economy, real estate and the HoReCa industry, and tourism.
Furthermore, Moscow Days are planned for Bangkok as part of RTIF-2026, as announced by Sergey Cheremin, Minister and Head of the Moscow Department of Foreign Economic and International Relations, during his speech at the business dialogue. Registration for the 2nd Russia-Thailand Investment Forum is available on the event's website.
"I want to emphasize that this is just the beginning. Cooperation with Thailand is a story of very fruitful, strong, and powerful work and joint partnership," concluded Ivan Demchenko, Chairman of the Russia-Thailand Business Council, at the end of the business dialogue.

โอกาสใหม่ด้านการท่องเที่ยว
ด้านนายอเล็กเซย์ เชคุนคอฟ รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการพัฒนาตะวันออกไกลและอาร์กติกของรัสเซีย กล่าวว่า รัสเซียให้ความสำคัญกับประสบการณ์และความเชี่ยวชาญของไทยในอุตสาหกรรมการบริการและการท่องเที่ยว โดยเฉพาะในการพัฒนาศักยภาพของภูมิภาคตะวันออกไกลและอาร์กติก
ในปี 2025 มีนักท่องเที่ยวชาวรัสเซียเดินทางมายังประเทศไทยถึง 1.9 ล้านคน ซึ่งถือเป็นสถิติสูงสุดเป็นประวัติการณ์ ขณะที่ภูมิภาคตะวันออกไกลและอาร์กติกของรัสเซียมีนักท่องเที่ยวรวมกว่า 7 ล้านคน โดยในจำนวนนี้เป็นนักท่องเที่ยวต่างชาติประมาณ 200,000 คน
การพัฒนาโครงสร้างพื้นฐานเพื่อสนับสนุนการค้า
นางเวโรนิกา นิกิชินา ผู้อำนวยการใหญ่ของศูนย์ส่งออกรัสเซีย กล่าวถึงแผนการจัดตั้งศูนย์แสดงสินค้ารัสเซียถาวรในประเทศไทย เพื่อให้ผู้จัดจำหน่ายสามารถเข้าถึงตัวอย่างสินค้าและทำสัญญาการส่งออกได้โดยตรง

นายวิศัลย์ วนะศักดิ์ศรีสกุล ประธานคณะกรรมการสภาธุรกิจไทย-รัสเซีย และประธานเจ้าหน้าที่บริหารบริษัท Warrix เปิดเผยว่า บริษัทมีแผนเข้าสู่ตลาดรัสเซียในปีนี้ โดยมองว่าการสร้างความร่วมมือระยะยาวและการใช้ศักยภาพทางเศรษฐกิจร่วมกันจะเป็นกุญแจสำคัญในการยกระดับความสัมพันธ์ทางธุรกิจระหว่างสองประเทศ

อีกหนึ่งช่วงสำคัญของการเสวนาคือการนำเสนอแนวคิดและโครงสร้างของ Russian-Thai Investment Forum 2026 (RTIF 2026) ซึ่งมีกำหนดจัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 29–30 ตุลาคม 2569 ณ กรุงเทพมหานคร
นายวลาดิเมียร์ โควาเลฟ ผู้อำนวยการบริหารสภาธุรกิจรัสเซียไทย ได้ประกาศเปิดรับลงทะเบียนเข้าร่วมงานอย่างเป็นทางการ พร้อมกล่าวว่า

ในช่วงปิดการเสวนา นายอีวาน เดมเชนโก ประธานสภาธุรกิจรัสเซียไทย กล่าวเน้นย้ำถึงอนาคตของความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างทั้งสองประเทศว่า
“ผมอยากเน้นย้ำว่านี่เป็นเพียงจุดเริ่มต้นเท่านั้น ความร่วมมือระหว่างไทยและรัสเซียคือเรื่องราวของการทำงานร่วมกันอย่างเข้มแข็ง มีประสิทธิภาพ และเต็มไปด้วยศักยภาพ เรามุ่งมั่นที่จะสร้างความเป็นหุ้นส่วนที่มั่นคงและยั่งยืนระหว่างภาคธุรกิจของทั้งสองประเทศต่อไปในอนาคต”
