🌿 12 เมษายน ของทุกปีเป็น “วันป่าชุมชนชายเลนไทย” (Thai Mangrove Community Forests Day)🌿ถูกกำหนดขึ้นเพื่อตระหนักถึงความสำคัญของป่าชายเลนต่อชุมชนท้องถิ่น ทั้งในบริเวณชุมชนใกล้เคียงและห่างไกล ประเทศไทยจึงให้ความสำคัญกับป่าชายเลนมาก จนมีการฉลองวันที่เกี่ยวกับป่าชายเลนถึง 2 วันในหนึ่งปี
ป่าชายเลนไม่ได้มีดีแค่ต้นไม้เขียว ๆ รากคดโค้งไปมา แต่คือ “ห้างสรรพสินค้าธรรมชาติ” ที่หล่อเลี้ยงชุมชนมาอย่างยาวนาน เปรียบเสมือนส่งตรงประโยชน์ถึงเราอย่างมหาศาล ตัวอย่างเช่น
📍 เป็นแหล่งเพาะพันธุ์สัตว์ทะเลหลายชนิดที่มีบทบาทสำคัญต่อห่วงโซ่อาหารในมหาสมุทร 🦀🐟
📍เป็นเกราะป้องกันชายฝั่ง ช่วยลดแรงคลื่น ป้องกันการกัดเซาะ และปกป้องบ้านเรือนของชุมชนริมทะเล
📍ผู้พิทักษ์โลกช่วยกักเก็บคาร์บอนได้อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ มีบทบาทสำคัญในการลดภาวะโลกร้อน
แม้จะเป็นเรื่องที่น่าเศร้าแต่ก็ปฏิเสธไม่ได้ว่า ชุมชนหรือมนุษย์เราเอง คือสาเหตุที่ทำให้ป่าชายเลนทั่วโลกลดลง แต่เมื่อเวลาผ่านไป หลายคนเริ่มเห็นความสำคัญของป่าชายเลนมากขึ้น จึงเกิดความคิดด้านฟื้นฟูป่าชายเลนในหลาย ๆ พื้นที่
✨ป่าชายเลนที่ “ศูนย์ศึกษาธรรมชาติกองทัพบก (บางปู)” ส่วนใหญ่เป็นต้นไม้ที่ปลูกขึ้นในช่วง 25 ปีที่ผ่านมา แต่นั่นไม่ได้หมายความว่าทุกพื้นที่จะเหมาะสมเสมอไป เพราะบางครั้งการปลูกต้นไม้อาจไปทำลายพื้นที่ “หาดโคลน” ซึ่งเป็นแหล่งที่อยู่อาศัยสำคัญของสิ่งมีชีวิตจำนวนมากไม่น้อยไปกว่าป่าชายเลน
ศูนย์ศึกษาธรรมชาติกองทัพบก (บางปู) จึงตั้งใจปฏิบัติภารกิจ เพื่อช่วยให้ทุกคนเข้าใจความสำคัญของป่าชายเลนมากขึ้นผ่านห้องเรียนธรรมชาติ ทั้งในระดับชุมชนของบางปู และบทบาทในระดับโลกในฐานะที่เราก็เป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโลกใบนี้ 🌏💚
Today is 'Thai Mangrove Community Forests Day' 🌳. Thailand has two days to recognise their importance, and we here at Bangpu also mark international days 🌍.
'Thai Mangrove Community Forests Day' was set aside specifically to recognise the importance of mangroves [/Rhizophora spp./] to local communities, and of local communities to mangroves 🤝.
Mangroves are, of course, important to all communities, local and remote, in so many ways. To consider just a few:
- mangroves are widely recognised as a nursery for many marine animals [/Animalia/] which all play an important part in the food web of our oceans 🌊. From this food web we, especially local communities, take a whole range of animals that are food for ourselves, whether near or far 🐟.
- mangroves play an important role in protecting us; for local communities, they are important barriers to coastal erosion, and at larger scales, mangroves have an important role in the capture of carbon dioxide—being part of what is known as 'Blue Carbon' 🌬️.
Of course, it is a sad fact that it is we 'communities of humans' who have been responsible for the destruction of most of the world's mangroves 😔. Luckily, in recent years, some of us have recognised the importance of mangroves, and there have been many mangrove restoration projects 🌱. Indeed, most of the mangroves visitors to Bangpu see are those that have been planted over the last 25 years. It's worth noting, though, that at Bangpu much of the ongoing mangrove planting is inappropriate, as it is destructive to the important mudflat habitat of Bangpu—mangroves are important, but so are mudflats 🦀.
We here at the Bangpu Nature Education Centre will be working today, and every day, to help everyone learn about the importance of mangroves to all of us, from the local community of Bangpu to our role in the global community 🌟.
