NATICC Reinforces Strategic Community Partnership at Kwaluseni Chiefdom Feedback Session

Today, NATICC conducted a feedback meeting at Kwaluseni Chiefdom under the Matsanjeni South Inkhundla. The meeting aimed to present the 2025 report to the Inner Council, highlighting the successes achieved, challenges encountered, and recommendations on how to better serve the community moving forward.

During the engagement, the Inner Council expressed appreciation for the work NATICC continues to do in strengthening and supporting the community through various interventions and programmes.

Among the key concerns raised was the decline in academic performance at nearby schools. Community leaders highlighted growing behavioural challenges among children, noting that some learners now believe disciplinary action cannot be enforced due to fear of legal repercussions.

The issue of children without birth certificates was also strongly raised, as this continues to affect access to essential services and opportunities for children within the community.

In response, NATICC pledged to conduct a mop-up birth registration campaign in partnership with relevant Births, Marriages and Deaths (BMD) offices. Prior to the campaign, community members will be sensitized and educated on the required documents and processes needed for children to obtain birth certificates successfully.

The meeting strengthened collaboration between NATICC, government stakeholders and community leadership in addressing challenges affecting children and families while working towards sustainable community development.

NATICC Conducts School Dialogue at Ekuthuleni Primary School

This morning , NATICC conducted a school dialogue session at Ekuthuleni Primary School targeting learners from Grade 0 to Grade 7. The dialogue aimed to equip learners with knowledge and life skills that promote child protection, safety, and positive decision-making.

During the sessions with Grade 4 to Grade 7 learners, discussions focused on the importance of prioritizing education, the dangers of engaging in sexual activities at a young age, bullying, and responsible decision-making. Learners were further encouraged to report any form of abuse to trusted adults, including teachers and parents, to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

For learners in Grade 0 to Grade 3, the sessions focused on child-friendly discussions around sexual abuse awareness, understanding private body parts and places where no one should touch them, as well as the importance of speaking out and reporting abuse. Learners were also guided on how, when, and where to report abuse should they experience or witness it.

The dialogue created a safe and interactive environment for learners to openly engage, ask questions, and gain valuable knowledge on personal safety and child protection. NATICC remains committed to strengthening child protection efforts in schools and communities through awareness and prevention initiatives.

STRENGTHENING COMMUNITY RESPONSE TO GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE IN ZOMBODZE EMUVA

NATICC on Thursday conducted a Social Service Workforce (SSWF) training on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for handling Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases reported within communities. The training brought together over 100 Social Service Workforce members from all four chiefdoms under the Zombodze Emuva Constituency, including Bandlancane, Banakekeli, Lisontfo, Emaphoyisa Emmango and Bagcugcuteli.

The training aimed to strengthen the capacity of frontline community structures on their roles and responsibilities when responding to GBV cases. Key areas covered included proper case handling, confidentiality, referral mechanisms, survivor-centred approaches, and the importance of timely and rapid response to reported cases.

Rooted in Isaiah 1:17, participants were reminded of the collective responsibility to protect and support vulnerable members of society. Facilitators also shared GBV trends in Eswatini, highlighting alarming statistics and common forms of abuse affecting communities. Discussions revealed that 1 in 2 women experience sexual abuse, while 32 out of every 100 reported abuse cases are now reported by men, reflecting the importance of encouraging all survivors to speak out. The vulnerability of children aged 12โ€“17 to sexual abuse was also emphasized.

Participants were divided into five Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) according to their community structures to discuss how they currently respond when GBV cases are reported to them. Each group later presented its findings and recommendations to the plenary, fostering peer learning and strengthening coordination among community actors.

The training also highlighted the GBV referral pathway and Section 70 of the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act (SODVA), which emphasizes everyoneโ€™s duty to report abuse cases.

Participants expressed appreciation for the training, noting that it equipped them with practical knowledge and strengthened their confidence in handling GBV cases within their communities.

NATICC conducted a Teen Club engagement session at Matsanjeni High School aimed at strengthening peer participation and orienting newly joined members into the club environment.

The session was peer-led by Chris Sitole, a Form 4 learner and Peer Educator, who welcomed new members and introduced the NATICC team. To ensure all members were aligned with the clubโ€™s purpose, discussions focused on the objectives of the Teen Club, the importance of participation, and creating a safe and supportive learning space for young people.

Members actively contributed to the development of ground rules and identified topics they would like future sessions to address, promoting ownership and inclusivity within the club. A major highlight of the session was the creation of the clubโ€™s official name, โ€œ๐‘บ๐’‰๐’‚๐’“๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ & ๐‘ช๐’‚๐’“๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐‘ป๐’†๐’†๐’ ๐‘ช๐’๐’–๐’ƒ,โ€ symbolizing the learnersโ€™ commitment to mutual support, empathy, and learning from one another.

The engagement further emphasized the importance of Teen Clubs in empowering young people through peer learning, leadership development, confidence building, and positive social interaction. Learners were encouraged to use the club as a platform to share experiences, support one another, and grow together in a safe environment.

- Successfully integrated new members into the Teen Club
- Strengthened peer leadership through learner-led facilitation
- Increased participation and ownership among members
- Fostered teamwork, sharing, and peer support within the school environment
- Established learner-driven priorities for future club sessions

Members participated in the session using a circle seating arrangement, a highly recommended approach that promotes equality, openness, and active participation among young people.

The setup allowed every member to maintain easy eye contact, creating a welcoming and safe environment for discussions, peer sharing, and mental health conversations. The arrangement further encouraged learners to freely express themselves, listen to one another, and engage confidently throughout the session.

The session reflects NATICCโ€™s continued efforts to create empowering spaces where young people can connect, learn, and positively influence one another.

Peer-Led Engagement at Eqinisweni high school Promotes Inclusivity, Diversity, and Mental Wellbeing

As part of ongoing school engagements following the reopening of the second term, NATICC visited the Eqinisweni high school Teen Club (Eco Club) to support youth-led dialogue on inclusivity, diversity, and mental health.

The session was uniquely blended, combining professional guidance from the NATICC team with strong peer-led facilitation. Club members took the lead in driving the conversation, demonstrating ownership and confidence in delivering key messages. A moving poem on inclusivity was performed by Sibahle Hlanze, while facilitation was led by Hleliwe Mdluli, with valuable peer insights shared by Buhle Mdluli.

The discussion centered on the interconnectedness of inclusivity, diversity, and mental health. Emphasis was placed on the importance of self-awareness and self-care as a foundationโ€”highlighting that individuals are better positioned to embrace diversity and practice inclusivity when they are mentally and emotionally well.

Outcome Highlights:

- Strengthened peer leadership and active youth participation
- Enhanced understanding of inclusivity and diversity within an inclusive school setting
- Increased awareness of mental health as a foundation for positive social interaction
- Reinforced the message that self-care is essential for supporting others
- 62 learners actively participated in the session

This engagement reflects NATICCโ€™s continued commitment to empowering young people to lead meaningful conversations and build inclusive, supportive school environments.

Today, the Phumelela - Eswatini's Mental Health Organisation facilitated a staff debriefing session for NATICC under the theme: โ€œMy Mental Health, My Responsibility.โ€

The session created a safe and reflective space for staff to unpack the emotional demands of their work, highlighting the importance of balancing professional responsibilities with personal well-being. Through engaging discussions, participants explored trauma, its different forms, and how it affects everyday life.

Interactive activities, including the Traffic Light Technique, helped staff identify emotional triggers and healthy responses, while the VUCA Model guided conversations on navigating stress and transforming it into strength through Vision, Understanding, Clarity, and Adaptability.

The session also emphasized the importance of holistic self-careโ€”covering physical, emotional, social, intellectual, financial, spiritual, and environmental well-being.

Prioritizing mental health is not optionalโ€”it is essential.
