Reflection:

The 20th Southern Africa Zone Youth Forum concluded on a high note with a meaningful community service initiative at New Hope Palliative House, where more than 20 young people from 7 Member National Scout Organizations (NSOs) dedicated 60 minutes of service in support of the institution and its residents.

The service activity reflected the spirit and values of Scouting through active citizenship, compassion, solidarity, and youth leadership in action. Participants engaged in various support activities aimed at bringing hope, encouragement, and practical assistance to the facility.

The 20th Southern Zone Youth Forum held in Manzini brought together young leaders from across the Southern Africa Scout Zone to strengthen regional cooperation, share experiences, and enhance youth participation in governance and community development. The closing community engagement served as a practical demonstration of the commitment of young people to creating positive impact within communities.

Speaking during the closing activity, youth representatives emphasized that service remains at the heart of Scouting and that the experience at the palliative house reinforced the importance of empathy, dignity, and collective responsibility.

The Southern Africa Scout Zone continues to promote youth-led initiatives that empower young people to become agents of positive change in society while advancing the values and vision of World Scouting.

The successful hosting of the 49th Southern Africa Zone Scout Conference and the 20th Southern Zone Youth Forum marks a defining moment for Eswatini Scout Association. It reflects not only effective planning and coordination, but also the enduring strength of collaboration, shared purpose, and commitment to youth development across Southern Africa.

The participation of delegates from seven member NSOs demonstrated a strong spirit of unity and regional solidarity. The presence of representatives from the Africa Scout Committee, the World Scout Bureau Africa Support Centre, and the Vice Chairperson of the Africa Scout Foundation added significant value to the conference, reinforcing alignment with continental and global Scouting priorities.

A major highlight was the keynote address by Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Honourable Bongani Nzima, whose message affirmed government’s recognition of Scouting as a strategic partner in youth empowerment and nation-building. The conference was further honoured by the presence of distinguished guests including Honourable Thandeka Mavuso, Manzini Regional MP and Lwazi Mamba, the ENYC CEO whose participation highlighted the importance of multi-sector collaboration in advancing youth-focused initiatives.

The Youth Forum, held alongside the conference, stood out as a powerful platform for youth engagement—enabling young people to contribute meaningfully to dialogue, decision-making, and the future direction of Scouting in the region. It reaffirmed the Movement’s commitment to youth-led development and inclusive leadership.

The closing ceremony, officiated by Senator Princess Nfombiyenkhosi, provided a dignified and inspiring conclusion, symbolising continuity in leadership and a deep-rooted commitment to the values of Scouting.

Equally important to the success of the conference was the unwavering support of partners and strategic sponsors. Sincere appreciation is extended Eswatini National Youth Council for its steadfast support in promoting youth empowerment and development. Recognition is also due to Imisebe Publishing for its contribution towards education and knowledge advancement, as well as to Greenland and Gobman Investment for their valuable partnership and support. Their collective contributions exemplify the power of collaboration between government, private sector, and civil society in advancing the Scouting Movement.

Overall, the conference and youth forum leave behind a legacy of strengthened partnerships, enriched dialogue, and renewed commitment to empowering young people. It sets a strong foundation for continued growth, innovation, and impact within Scouting across Southern Africa.

Lesotho and Eswatini Scouts conclude historic 3rd Leadership Seminar on high note:

The Eswatini National Youth Council (ENYC) has officially endorsed the growing partnership between the Scout Associations of the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Kingdom of Lesotho, describing the collaboration as a progressive model for regional youth development, leadership strengthening, and cultural exchange.

The 3rd Leadership was held in Mbabane on the 27th to 29th April 2026 attended by over 40 leaders from Lesotho and Eswatini.

Speaking during Seminar, the Chief Executive Officer of ENYC, Mr Lwazi Mamba, commended the peer-to-peer partnership between the two National Scout Organisations (NSOs), highlighting its significance in empowering young people through practical leadership development and governance capacity building.

In his keynote address, the CEO noted that the Seminar provides an important platform for young leaders to exchange ideas, strengthen institutional cooperation, and promote innovation among youth-led organisations in Southern Africa.

“The partnership between the Scout Associations of Eswatini and Lesotho reflects the spirit of African solidarity, shared values, and youth-driven development. Such collaborations create meaningful opportunities for young people to acquire leadership skills, civic responsibility, and a transformative mindset,” he said.

The ENYC further reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that contribute towards youth empowerment and nation building. The Council emphasized that the objectives of the partnership are aligned with the pillars of the National Youth Policy, particularly in the areas of leadership development, active citizenship, entrepreneurship, skills development, and social inclusion.

The Seminar also explored key thematic areas aimed at equipping young leaders with practical tools for community transformation, organisational governance, project management, and mindset change.

Participants at the Seminar include Scout leaders and youth representatives from both Eswatini and Lesotho, united by a common vision of strengthening Scouting as a vehicle for peace, service, and sustainable youth development.

The Eswatini Scout Association and Lesotho Scout Association expressed appreciation to ENYC for its endorsement and continued support towards youth-centred programmes that advance regional cooperation and leadership excellence.

Gracing the Seminar was the Director for Education Impact from the World Scout Bureau, Jonathan Omondi, who also commended the peer NSO partnership between Eswatini and Lesotho.

The Seminar, preceding the Southern Africa Zone Scout Conference hosted in Eswatini on the 30th April to 3rd May, is testimony to strong collaborative initiatives between National Scout Associations in the Southern Africa Region.
