A valuable exchange of ideas, systems, and collaboration ✨

The Eswatini Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Society (ESWACOS) recently took part in a Knowledge Exchange Programme hosted by the South African Music Performance Rights Association SAMPRA, alongside sister CMOs including NASCAM (Namibia) and LESCOSAA (Lesotho).

ESWACOS was represented by our Executive Director and Licensing Officer, who engaged in insightful discussions and practical learning sessions with regional counterparts on strengthening the administration of Neighbouring Rights across Southern Africa.

Held from 13th–16th April 2026, the programme created a space for meaningful dialogue around improving licensing systems, enhancing royalty distribution processes, strengthening governance and compliance frameworks, and advancing collaboration in mechanical and neighbouring rights management. It also highlighted innovative approaches to artist welfare, including social and development support programmes for performers.

Beyond the technical discussions, what stood out most was the shared regional commitment in the room, a collective drive to build fairer systems that protect creators and ensure they are properly recognised and remunerated for their work.

For ESWACOS, this engagement is a key step forward in strengthening partnerships with organisations such as SAMPRA and CAPASSO, while also enhancing our internal systems for more efficient licensing, improved transparency, and better service to rights holders in Eswatini.

We return inspired, equipped, and more connected to a regional network committed to growing a sustainable creative economy.

We continue to encourage all users of copyrighted works in Eswatini to take up a licence with ESWACOS and be part of supporting and sustaining the creative industry.

Strengthening Copyright Awareness in Education 📚 ✨

Yesterday, the Eswatini Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Society (ESWACOS) hosted the National Executive Committee of the Eswatini Principals Association for an important engagement focused on copyright awareness within educational institutions.

The session aimed to sensitize both primary and high school principals on copyright and reprographic licensing and the responsible use of copyrighted materials in schools. Educational institutions often reproduce sections of books and other learning materials created by authors and publishers, making it essential to ensure that such use is done legally and ethically.

We were honoured to welcome Olav Stokkmo, a consultant from the WIPO-IFRRO Reprography project, who shared valuable insights on copyright and global best practices. His presentation highlighted the importance of copyright licences in ensuring that creators are fairly compensated while supporting the continued development of educational content. We were also joined by the Copyright Office under the Eswatini Intellectual Property Office to support public awareness on Copyright matters.

The engagement provided principals with a deeper understanding of how copyright licensing protects both creators and users of copyrighted works while promoting respect for intellectual property within the education sector.
Schools, institutions, and all copyright users who reproduce copyrighted materials are encouraged to take up a copyright licence with ESWACOS to ensure compliance with copyright laws while supporting authors, publishers, and other creators.

For more information on copyright licensing and how to apply, we invite you to contact the Eswatini Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Society (ESWACOS) or visit our offices.

Today, we concluded the series of stakeholder consultative workshops for the development of the organisation’s Five-Year Strategic Plan (2026–2031) with a final session dedicated to rights holders, held at the Manzini Library American Corner✨

The session brought together creators and rights holders whose works ESWACOS is mandated to protect and administer under the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act No. 4 of 2018. Their participation was essential in ensuring that the organisation’s future strategy reflects the needs, expectations, and experiences of the very people at the heart of the creative industry.

Throughout the workshop, participants shared valuable insights on the copyright landscape, contributed to discussions around ESWACOS’S Vision, Mission, and Values, and helped identify key strategic priorities that will guide the organisation over the next five years.

The strategic planning process, facilitated with support from Samkho Consulting , has brought together a wide range of stakeholders over the past few days, including copyright users, government institutions, parastatals, trade associations, development partners, and now rights holders.

By wrapping up the consultation process with the very people whose rights ESWACOS is mandated to protect, the organisation reaffirmed its commitment to building a stronger, more responsive copyright system that supports the growth of Eswatini’s creative economy.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all rights holders and stakeholders who participated and contributed their voices to shaping the future of copyright in Eswatini.

Earlier today, the Eswatini Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Society (ESWACOS) hosted a Multi-Stakeholder Strategic Planning Workshop at Sibane Sami Hotel as part of the organisation’s ongoing efforts to develop its Five Year Strategic Plan (2026–2031).✨

The consultative session brought together representatives from government departments, parastatals, trade associations, and development partners, creating an important platform for dialogue on the future of copyright collective management and the broader creative economy in Eswatini.

As the organisation mandated under the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act No. 4 of 2018 to administer and manage copyright and neighbouring rights for the purpose of collective management in the country, ESWACOS recognises that strengthening the copyright ecosystem requires strong institutional partnerships and policy alignment with national development priorities.

The workshop formed part of a broader strategic planning process aimed at ensuring that ESWACOS’S future direction reflects the needs of the national development landscape while also aligning with regional and international copyright standards. Participants contributed valuable insights on the organisation’s operating environment and engaged in discussions focused on organisational diagnosis, including SWOT and PESTEL analysis, as well as the development of ESWACOS’S Vision, Mission, and Core Values.

Stakeholders also worked collaboratively to identify key strategic focus areas and objectives that will guide ESWACOS in enhancing institutional governance, improving financial sustainability, and embracing digital transformation in the management of copyright.

The workshop was facilitated with technical support from Samkho Consulting , ensuring a structured and inclusive process that allows stakeholders to play an active role in shaping the organisation’s future.

By engaging government institutions, industry bodies, and development partners in this process, ESWACOS aims to build a forward looking strategy that strengthens intellectual property protection while contributing to national socio-economic growth and the development of Eswatini’s creative sector.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all stakeholders who participated and shared their expertise and perspectives.

Today, the Eswatini Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Society (ESWACOS) hosted a Copyright Users Stakeholder Workshop at Sibane Sami Hotel as part of the organisation’s ongoing process of developing its Five-Year Strategic Plan (2026–2031) ✨

The workshop brought together copyright users as key stakeholders from different sectors to provide valuable input that will help shape a strategy designed to benefit the entire copyright ecosystem in Eswatini.

As the organisation mandated under the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Act No. 4 of 2018 to administer and manage copyright and neighbouring rights, ESWACOS recognises the importance of working closely with users of creative works to build a balanced, transparent, and sustainable creative industry.

Facilitated with the technical support of SAMKHO Consultancy, the workshop formed part of a broader consultative process aimed at ensuring that the voices of stakeholders are reflected in the organisation’s strategic direction for the next five years.

During the session, participants engaged in discussions on key strategic planning components including organisational diagnosis, SWOT and PESTEL analysis, as well as the development of ESWACOS’ Vision, Mission, and Value Statements. Stakeholders also contributed ideas on key focus areas and strategic objectives that will guide the organisation moving forward.

At ESWACOS, we believe that strong collaboration between creators and users of creative content is essential for building a thriving creative economy. The insights shared during this workshop will play an important role in shaping a strategy that strengthens licensing systems, improves stakeholder engagement, and supports the continued growth of the creative sector in Eswatini.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all stakeholders who took the time to participate and contribute their valuable perspectives.

Together, we are shaping the future of copyright in Eswatini.
