GLOW Eswatini

GLOW Eswatini GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) Seeks to nurture and mold the Swazi girl child as an emerging leader.

GLOW is a global project initiated by Peace Corps volunteers and local counterparts to empower young girls and improve the status of women around the world. GLOW Swaziland began in 2010, when volunteers recognized the potential that GLOW has for helping to minimize, through education, several of the life-threatening conditions that affect women and girls in the country. Gender inequality and patri

archal social norms cause many women in Swaziland (especially those living in rural areas) to find themselves with little personal independence. In addition to being at much greater risk of HIV infection, they are also threatened by high rates of gender-based violence, abuse, inter-generational sexual relationships, and unwanted pregnancy. Through club and camp activities, GLOW utilizes a life skills curriculum that includes sexual and reproductive health education, career planning, decision-making skills, and self-esteem building to empower Swazi girls to make informed and healthy decisions for their lives. GLOW clubs offer a safe and supportive environment where girls can share experiences and future aspirations. GLOW seeks a Swaziland, and a world, where girls are inspired to dream big and live in societies which fully support them in achieving their goals.

The old African proverb “If you educate a man you educate an individual, but if you educate a girl(woman) you educate a nation (family)” was a pioneer in its time for realizing the importance of women’s education when men predominated education opportunities. This maxim recognized the benefits of education and has repeatedly become the motivation for global development efforts to offer education opportunities for girls and women.

A special thank you to for helping our girls at Enhlulweni understand STEM education better and the vast and amazing opportunities out there for them.

Dvokolwako EGLOW Club: Dvokolwako Mentors Thembekile, Ncobile and Thobile with the help of Sisi Euni (Program Trainer) are facilitating the Sinovuyo Parenting Teens program.

EGLOW clubs all over the country are currently implementing a Sinovuyo program, whereby parents and teens are trained on ways to strengthen their relationships.

Caregivers are encouraged to create nurturing and protective environments for their children using positive parenting and relationship building techniques.

This is done to help lower the high risk of sexual behaviour amongst the teens and also to raise awareness and prevent GBV incidents.

This program is being carried out with the help of
