Burping helps release trapped air and keeps baby comfortable after feeding. Just as baby needs comfort, so does mom! A well-fitting breastfeeding bra provides support, reduces discomfort, and makes breastfeeding easier.
Small steps can make breastfeeding a more comfortable and positive journey for both mother and baby.

But what exactly is mixed feeding?

Mixed feeding is when a baby receives both breast milk and formula milk, often through a bottle. Because bottle teats can have different ni**le shapes and a faster milk flow, some babies may begin to prefer the bottle and find breastfeeding more challenging.

In this Video, Nonkululeko, Clinical Dietician from Mankayane Government Hospital, explains what mixed feeding is and how it can affect a babyโ€™s breastfeeding journey.

Breastfeeding Tips for Mothers:
โ€ข To support successful breastfeeding, breastfeed frequently and on demand, especially in the early weeks, to help establish and maintain your milk supply.
โ€ข If you are experiencing feeding challenges, seek support early from your nearest health facility.

World Food Safety Day 2026 | Hhohho Regional Commemoration

The Ministry of Health Eswatini through Eswatini National Nutrition Council (ENNC), joined the global community in commemorating World Food Safety Day in collaboration with Environmental Health Eswatini and the Municipal Council Of Mbabane. The Hhohho regional commemoration brought together key stakeholders from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education and Training , Municipal Council of Mbabane, and educators from schools across the region to strengthen efforts towards ensuring safe and nutritious food for learners.

The event highlighted the critical role schools play in promoting food safety, as learners spend a significant portion of their time in the school environment. Discussions focused on collaborative approaches to improving food safety practices, strengthening awareness, enhancing training initiatives, and supporting food vendors to provide safe and nutritious food options for learners.

Representing the Eswatini National Nutrition Council as a panelist, Nokwazi Dlamini emphasized that food safety is a shared responsibility requiring the collective efforts of parents, schools, food vendors, communities, and government institutions.

โ€œEnsuring that children have access to safe and nutritious food goes beyond what happens in the classroom. It requires collaboration among all stakeholders to address challenges such as unhealthy eating habits, inadequate dietary diversity, poor food handling practices, and limited food safety knowledge.โ€ said Nokwazi Dlamini.

As we commemorate World Food Safety Day, let us continue working together to ensure that food is safe from farm to fork, protecting the health and future of our children.

The Eswatini National Nutrition Council (ENNC), represented Eswatini at the high-level consultative meeting on the SADC standard for commercially produced complementary Foods (CPCF). Head of Programs, Ms. Siniketiwe Zwane, attended the meeting alongside Mr. Phillip Mndawe (SADCSTAN ExCo Chairperson, ESWASA), Mr. Makhosini Mamba (Health Specialist, UNICEF), and Mrs. Phindile Priscilla Dlamini (SACTRL Regional Coordinator, Ministry of Commerce).

This important milestone will support Eswatini in safeguarding infants and young children from unsuitable complementary food products, strengthening food safety systems, and aligning national regulations with regional standards. Ultimately, it will help ensure that only safe, nutritious, and age-appropriate foods reach the country's youngest population.

The Ministry of Health Eswatini, through the Eswatini National Nutrition Council (ENNC), joins the global community in commemorating World Food Safety Day 2026 under the theme "From Burden to Solutions: Safe Food Everywhere".

Food safety is essential for preventing foodborne diseases, protecting public health, and ensuring access to safe and nutritious food for all. By promoting safe food handling, preparation, and storage practices at every level, we can reduce the burden of foodborne illnesses and protect the health and well-being of Eswatini.

Many of the foods and drinks we consume every day are ultra-processed (kudla lokwakhiwe). These products often contain added sugars, salt, unhealthy fats, artificial flavours, colours, sweeteners, and preservatives that are not typically used in home cooking.
Examples include soft drinks, chips, sweets, instant noodles, processed meats, packaged cakes and biscuits, and many ready-to-eat meals.

While convenient, regularly consuming large amounts of ultra-processed foods can increase the risk of overweight and obesity, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and some cancers.

For better health, choose more whole and minimally processed foods such as fruits and vegetables, beans, whole grains, eggs, fish, lean meats, milk, yoghurt, nuts, and seeds.
Small food choices made every day can have a big impact on your health. Choose fresh, choose wholesome, choose health.
