As Su***de Awareness Month comes to a close, let us remember that the conversation does not end here. Every day is an opportunity to remind someone that their life matters, that healing is possible, and that hope is real. You are not alone, and your story is still being written. Let us continue to stand together, to listen without judgment, and to walk with one another through the darkest valleys until the light breaks through. Keep holding on, keep reaching out β€” because tomorrow needs you.

UNESWA Mental Health Society Leadership Induction

Yesterday, 22 July 2025, the UNESWA Mental Health Society hosted a Leadership Induction session at Mbabane Campus. It was facilitated by a member of the alumni who is also part of the collaborative project between Enactus Uneswa Mbabane Campus and Uneswa Mental Health Society, a Psychiatric Nurse by profession, Mthobisi Mfundo Ntshangase.

We first discussed and engaged on why Mental Health is a Priority for students in institutions of higher learning in particular. We went on to have an in depth conversation on how the Mental Health Society could be an alternative to the mental health crisis we are having in our campuses.
Lastly, we concluded by engaging on how we can collectively show leadership and organize for Mental Health in our campus and beyond.

From this session we emerged invigorated and inspired to ensure Mental wellness amongst students in our campus and beyond. Special appreciation to our guest, Mthobisi Ntshangase, who not only shared his experiences, but also inspired us to do more for mental health and overall well-being.

As we come to the end of September, the month in which we have been actively raising awareness about su***de prevention, we are more than grateful to the UNESWA Faculty of Health Sciences under the Department of Community Mental Health Nursing for making this activity possible. Moreover, we are grateful to the student body for joining in and dining with us through the lunch our sessions. Lastly, to our esteemed guests who graced us with their presence and left us yearning to take informed steps toward change and made us realize that it's okay to not be okay and that there is always help waiting for us, we are more that honoured to have hosted them.

As a take away message from the month September its important to note that as people we have the Power of Choice, our thoughts which lead to our actions are all influenced by the choices we make daily. Suicidal behaviours can be prevented or treated early as long as we seek to take the power in our hands, as long as we make the choice to shift our mindset from the negative to the positive, nothing is impossible as long as we understand the power of choice. Concentration and attention dertmines the direction of one's life, su***de is an outcome of concentration_attention on all the doesn't work.

Someone, not one, but many have survived what you are going through. You will survive it too!!!!

Su***de Prevention and Awareness Symposium.

Venue: University of Eswatini Faculty of Health Sciences

This month through daily lunch hour sessions we are encouraging students experiencing Suicidal Behaviours to seek for assistance and support from families, community and health institutions. This Symposium seeks to tackle predisposing factors such as depression, intimate relationships, substance use and financial issues leading to Suicidal behaviours; a phenomenon currently rampant and engulfing the university student community.

On 17 September we were honoured by Dr. Shabangu who is currently working at the Mbabane Government Hospital. He englighted students on Financial Literacy and Resilience, with an aim to help liberate the them cognitively from financial crisis students were informed, educated, empowered and encouraged.

Dr Shabangu mentioned that, "valleys and lows of one's life are for one to pack his/her bag and get ready for the journey ahead, " therefore quitting is not an option. Keep going, keep climbing, forgive yourself, keep hustling one day it will all make sense. Moreover, he stated that," money is not as glamorous as it looks, hence it's important to put yourself first, your well being first and never sell yourself short for money."

No matter the problem kindness is always the right response. When your child is having a problem, stop, listen then respond to the need, not the behaviour. The behaviour can be addressed later, after the need has been met, because only then is the door to effective communication, truly open. -LR Knost

Substance use, teenage pregnancy, depression and risk to su***de, academic problems, family dysfunctions, peer, pressure are some of the leading issues faced by adolescents in Eswatini that were noted.

Therefore, educating teenagers, teachers, and parents about the risks and appropriate preventive measures has been seen to be essential if we are to reduce the prevalence of the aforementioned problems. As a result the Uneswa mental health society has been continously determined in promoting school mental health, with the aim of instilling hope for a better future for our younger brothers and sisters.

After all, beneath every behaviour there is a feeling and beneath each feeling there is a need. When we meet the need rather than focusing on the behaviour we begin to deal with the cause not the symptom.- Youth Dynamics

Success is not final,
Failure is not fatal. however, it is the courage to continue that counts!
When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too🀞.
Perseverance is the mother of all success. It's true to have encountered a number of discouraging events, but I want to revive everyone in the name of perseverance. Wake up and go, survive!!

Much love from the Mental health society β™₯️β™₯️

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest accomplishment or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around....
Let's be intentional in caring for one another.

Spread the mental health awareness gospel.
Each one help one.
