On the 11th - 13th of August, YSDC had the privilege of being part of a powerful workshop hosted by UNFPA Eswatini. This vital gathering brought together inspiring youth leaders from 7+ African countries across both the Climate Space and the Health Space.

The intensive training focused deeply on Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) and Climate Change, with a powerful emphasis on Social and Behaviour Change Communication and Youth Participation Programming for young people in all their diversity.
The key takeaways from this training include:

* Understanding the literal role of trees in saving people and the planet, alongside how human health connects directly to our environment.
* Unpacking how climate change affects different populations and demographic groups uniquely, particularly impacting women and girls as well as people with disabilities.
* From this training, these young people will be able to train more young people in their communities as well.

A massive thank you to UNFPA Eswatini for driving this milestone event forward. The training may be over, but the movement for gender-transformative climate adaptation has just begun.

2026 marks the 65th anniversary of the 1961 Convention on the Reduction of Statelessness, the principal international treaty dedicated to preventing statelessness and safeguarding the fundamental right to a nationality.

Over the past six decades, the Convention has helped drive legislative reforms and strengthen safeguards to ensure that people are not left without a nationality. Yet millions of people around the world remain affected by statelessness, and more than half of UN Member States have not yet acceded to the treaty.

Join the Global Alliance to End Statelessness and its members for Preventing and Resolving Statelessness in Practice, an interactive anniversary event featuring government representatives, legal experts, civil society and stateless-led organizations.
Through practical examples and lived experiences, the discussion will explore progress achieved, remaining challenges, and opportunities to advance universal accession and strengthen implementation of safeguards against statelessness worldwide.

As the world commemorates , we join hands with young people everywhere to stand for our common aspirations in every context. We recognise our unique and different lived realities, while coming together to advance the goals that unite us.

2030 is ever so near, with gaps still remaining in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, our shared roadmap to resilient communities and lasting development that leaves no one behind. We, the youth, have a vital role to play in achieving these goals - a role only possible when we see ourselves as part of the solution and are recognised as partners, not just beneficiaries.

Young people the world over are making moves to realise our common aspirations while navigating different contexts. Let us not be deterred. Let us not give up - the future is ours, and it depends on us!
