BNOC CEO Mrs. Dorothy Tlagae-Gaseitsiwe represented Botswana at the ANOCA Zone 6 Secretaries General Seminar, taking the stage to present the official BNOC Strategy to regional sports leaders.

Bringing together Secretaries General from 10 Southern African nations, the seminar focused on building stronger administrative frameworks, unlocking funding opportunities, and creating sustainable pathways to help our athletes shine on the road to the LA 2028 Olympic Games!

By sharing our strategic vision and learning from our regional partners, BNOC is ensuring that Botswana remains a powerhouse both on the field of play and in the boardroom.

ANOCA ZONE VI SECRETARIES GENERAL SEMINAR CONCLUDES SUCCESSFULLY

The ANOCA Zone VI Secretaries General Seminar, hosted in Eswatini at the Happy Valley Hotel, has successfully concluded.

The Seminar brought together 10 Secretaries General/CEOs from the 10 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in the region, providing a valuable platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing, collaboration and strengthening regional sporting relations.

The Seminar was honoured by the presence of ANOCA Zone VI President, Hon. Jappie Mhango, while ANOCA Secretary General Mr Ahmed Hashim joined virtually from Cairo. We also extend our appreciation to AUSC Region 5 CEO Mr Stanley Mutoya, Namibia Sports Commission CEO Dr Freddy Mwiya, and Mr Darius Dlomo of the Eswatini Sports Council for their valuable contributions.

The delegates concluded their stay in Eswatini by attending the Annual Reed Dance, experiencing the Kingdom’s rich cultural heritage.

LOOKING AHEAD

The Zone now turns its focus to the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, where all 10 countries will be represented, followed by the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games in Maputo in December 2026.

As part of strengthening regional collaboration, ANOCA Zone VI has pledged USD 50,000 towards the AUSC Region 5 Youth Games, following the signing of an agreement between ANOCA Zone VI and AUSC Region 5.

ANOCA ZONE VI HOLDS FIRST EVER SECRETARIES GENERAL SEMINAR IN THE KINGDOM OF ESWATINI

The Kingdom of Eswatini welcomed sport leaders from across Southern Africa today for the first ever ANOCA Zone VI Secretaries General Seminar held in Ezulwini.

The seminar was officially opened by the Honourable Jane Mkhonta Simelane , Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs representing the Hon. Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs.

In his welcome remarks, ANOCA Zone VI President, Hon. Jappie Mhango, expressed sincere appreciation to the Government of Eswatini for the warm hospitality and commitment to the Olympic Movement.

Attendance
Secretaries General from the 10 National Olympic Committees of ANOCA Zone VI, the ANOCA, CEO of AUSC Region 5, Mr. Stanley Mutoya, and invited CEOs from Eswatini and Namibia who will give testimonies on the importance of partnerships.

Key Messages from President Mhango:
The seminar is designed to move “beyond discussion and focus on practical solutions, stronger leadership and effective implementation.”

Key Objectives

1. Strengthen NOCs - Build stronger, more professional, accountable and well-governed National Olympic Committees
2. Implementation - Ensure strategic plans deliver real results for athletes, coaches and federations
3. LA 2028 Focus - Intensify athlete preparation now. The goal: a legacy of more qualifiers, more finalists, and more Olympic medals for Zone VI
4. Partnerships - Foster stronger coordination between ANOCA Zone VI and AUSC Region 5
5. Athlete-Centred Sport - Improve athlete development, welfare, coaching, sports science and resource mobilisation

President Mhango challenged every Secretary General to return home with “practical ideas and clear actions that can be implemented immediately.”

The official opening ceremony of the Secretary Generals’ Seminar got underway earlier today, marking the beginning of a valuable platform.

Sessions are currently underway, with Secretary Generals and senior representatives from across the region engaging on key issues shaping the future of sport.

🇸🇿 ESWATINI WELCOMES SECRETARY GENERALS | FORMAL SESSIONS BEGIN TODAY

The Kingdom of Eswatini warmly welcomed the Secretary Generals attending the Secretary Generals’ Seminar, with the delegates received at the airport by the Minister of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, Hon. Bongani Nzima, and the Secretary General Mr. Maxwell Jele.

The delegates were later treated to a welcome dinner at Summerfield, setting the tone for an engaging and fruitful seminar centred on collaboration, knowledge-sharing and strengthening the Olympic Movement.

Today, 29 August, the main formal sessions officially begins.

This seminar brings together Secretary Generals and CEOs from 10 national delegations providing a valuable platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing and collaboration within the Olympic Movement.

The delegates are arriving in the Kingdom today, 28 August, ahead of the formal sessions scheduled for Saturday, 29 August, and Sunday, 30 August.

The significance of this seminar extends beyond the sporting sector. A number of key stakeholders and invited corporate partners are also expected to participate, reflecting the growing importance of the event and the opportunities it presents for strengthening partnerships and collaboration.

For Eswatini, hosting this seminar is an important opportunity to showcase the Kingdom’s capacity to host high-level continental engagements, while strengthening relationships within the African Olympic Movement and building meaningful connections with strategic partners.

We are therefore delighted to welcome all the Secretary Generals, Chief Executive Officers, delegates and partners to the Kingdom of Eswatini.
