October 13 – International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 🌍💙
On the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction, the "Humanitarians Without Borders" association is launching an important awareness campaign to educate the public on safety measures that can save lives.
While we cannot prevent all disasters, we can adapt to them and act with awareness and responsibility.
🎒 **First:** Prepare an emergency kit containing drinking water, non-perishable food, a flashlight, batteries, a first aid kit, necessary medications, and copies of important documents and contact numbers.
🏠 **Second:** Know how to act during earthquakes: drop to the ground, protect your head and neck, take cover under a sturdy table if possible, stay away from windows and objects that might fall, and do not use the elevator during the tremor.
🌧️ **Third:** Beware of floods and flash floods; avoid valley channels and waterways, do not attempt to drive through floodwaters, and head to a safe location while following official instructions.
🔥 **Fourth:** Act wisely during fires: find a safe exit route, stay low to the ground if there is smoke, use a flashlight, call local emergency services from a safe location, and do not re-enter a burning building.
👨👩👧👦 **Fifth:** Create a family emergency plan: designate a safe meeting place, memorize important contact numbers, agree on communication methods, and plan how to assist children and individuals with special needs. 📱 Sixth: Verify before you share. Do not contribute to the spread of rumors during disasters. Check news sources, rely on official and credible information, and respect the privacy of those affected—do not publish their photos or personal details without permission.
🤝 Sixth: Help others responsibly after the disaster. Stay away from damaged buildings and exposed electrical wires, report the status of residents and the injured to the relevant authorities, and provide assistance within your capabilities without endangering yourself or others.
💙 Remember: Taking responsibility for yourself, your family, and your community is crucial. Accurate knowledge, advance planning, and conscious cooperation can make a real difference in saving lives.
Note: Detailed information can be found under each key card.
